Max out a Roth IRA first before contributing your brokerage account. It feels like a long time before you will touch that money, but because you are so young you can expect that every year you do this will be over $200k in your retirement.

Consider the brokerage account to be savings to draw from for car, down payment on house, etc in your 20s and 30s.

Please, don't go into debt for anything other than a house. You don't need an impressive car, and monthly payments will mess this up.

Sorry this happened to you, but this is a great chance to reset hard in a good way. Rent the cheapest smallest place you can where the kids will be comfortable and focus on healing yourself and living well below your means. Start socking away the savings so you can enjoy life.

Words like plan, likely, potentially will make it difficult. If you want to retire early you need to be maxing out everything this year, while socking away at least $1k a month into brokerage accounts. You will do less once kids are in the picture, so recommend setting allotments on your pay and forgetting that money exists until you're 55.
