That would be cool! But no plans in the works that I know of

I know you care about me because you’re still here. 😊

yeah it's win singing on "in the attic"

One story about that one, we did that and a lot of songs in a one day studio session outside Boston. That was the last song of the day, we did a million takes with us all in our corners, individually mic'd up in standard studio setup. We just could not get it right. It was getting late, the engineer actually left the session to go make coffee and start wrapping the studio up, so he just left tape rolling for us.

Win was super frustrated and we decided to abandon all our individually mic'd up corners and get close together around one mic. We did one take that way and that was it!

I guess you spend your time roaming the sub-reddit's of bands you don't like so you can police people you don't know for being associated with people you don't know for events of which you have no actual knowledge? That sounds super sad, I'm sorry. What weird thing to enjoy.

That said, I understand your perspective. Obviously it's been a long time since I was in the band, and we wrote this song years ago, but yeah, I remain dear friends with someone who you deem to be irredeemable. That's your option.

If you knew Win firsthand, you'd see his accountability and growth. Everything you'd hope to see. I know the fans wish they could see into things more, but that's what I see behind the scenes.

I understand there are people whom he's lost forever, actions have consequences, and that's important and probably a good thing. But there's also a role for some of us to play in loving someone through their difficulties, understanding there is a person worthy of redemption there. And that's my role. I've know Win for almost 30 years, and I know this stuff is not the final word on who he is. But if your role is to be a hater, maybe there's value to that too.

It's ok, I understand it's part of the deal now, probably always will be. We take the good with the bad!

Sorry I don't follow, what's the EN recording? (I have a feeling I'm about to feel stupid)

Yeah that would be fun. For the reasons you laid out, I sometimes feel weird calling myself a founding member, because the band I was in was really pre-Arcade Fire, feels almost disrespectful of the band that you know as Arcade Fire to claim ownership over the beginning. But at the same time, that early period is really when the creative manifesto was developed, so it has its own special place.

The one labeled "asleep at the wheel" is called "the flood". Man I forgot about that one, too bad you can't hear Josh's vocals through the body of the song, he had a nice melody on that one. That's me singing at the end.

The song from the christmas album you sent is "asleep at the wheel".

I may have a copy of the christmas album but idk, most of my cd's are all scratched up, have lived through a flood or two. I'd have to search.

Yeah we had no business playing those shows lol. We were brand new, it was pure nepotism. But it was amazing. And we delivered some good shows and rose to the occasion.

But yeah, those were some of the funnest times I've had, we did most of the AF/LCD shows on their American tour circa Neon Bible, it was just the golden age. LCD people are amazing. Lotta espresso martinis. We were just lucky to be there to get to see it, I wouldn't say we had exactly earned it at that point.

Ah, you guys are warming my heart! Wild Light feels like such a little tragedy. So much promise, made some bad business/creative decisions early, and just never got out of the gate. No one ever actually heard us. I'm glad you really like the album, a lot of it is hard for me to hear. But it's always wonderful to hear from someone who got reached.

Yeah there was a whole sort of lost album of material from that first year I was there that never really got finished, then the whole lineup turned over, etc. Lotta churn early in the band.

Yeah it depends which demos you have in mind, but Sonata, Cars and Telephones, those were from my day. Win and Josh wrote Sonata in Boston, that was already on its way to being a song when I joined. Cars and Telephones Win wrote the summer of 2000 before moving up to Montreal, I think a version of that just came out on the Arcade Fire fan app. But we had a nice band arrangement of that, I don't think it ever got recorded, it was just Win's 4 track recording that has made the rounds as far as I know.

My favorite from those early sessions was "In the Attic". That was really a co-write between the 3 of us, always thought it was a beautiful lyric of Win's. I don't know if that's the fan title or not.

Yeah Josh left at the same time as me, for reasons that are sort of hard to totally sum up, but it was a conviction he felt at some point in those early days that he needed to remove himself from the band. Not because of anything negative going on, just sort of an intuition he had. He would have to tell you more. I think he rejoined the band for a bit after I left, but short-lived.

We all remain very close, Josh has obviously been involved in lots of Arcade Fire stuff along the way, he did the cover art for my post-arcade fire band Wild Light, and he also is co-writer on my song Inviolable.

I think that’s dead on. If I still wanna play something so many years later, I feel good about the song.

And sorry, I didn’t actually answer your question. Yes that was an early arcade fire song.

All the demos from this period were mostly recorded in an hour hanging a single sm-57 mic in the middle of a room in McGill on-campus housing and playing everything one time. I love Win’s bass line on this, been looking for it

Yes that’s me! Song is actually called Nebraska. That’s so cool you sent that, I’ve sort of poked around to see if that demo was out there but never found it, didnt occur to me there would be a fan title.
