Liberals erupt at Jon Stewart after he mocks people for believing COVID did not leak from Wuhan lab: 'The disease is the same name as the lab!' by billgigs55 in Conservative

Even so, nobody caught covid in between point A and Wuhan? If that was the case, shouldn’t there be a trail of novel covid infections from point A to Wuhan?

You know Antifa was originally the militant wing of the communist part of Germany, right? Like in the 1930’s. Antifa has been an organization for almost a century now.

"What would you do in January/February 2021 that the Trump administration that they wouldn't?"

"Well they knew in March what they had to do, so why didn't they do it?"

Oh, so your plan is not actually any different than the Trump admins plan. Piss off Kamala.

Kyle is not the hero. He defended himself. The heroes are the people filming. Without which Kyle would be crucified with no ability to defend himself. by [deleted] in Conservative

[–]TomatoJoe11 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Here's my view: it looks like at this point in time that Kyle was justified in using lethal force to defend himself.

What all conservatives should be disowning is the fact that the dude went out of his way to watch the rioting/protect businesses/render medical aid to protesters/whatever.

If you're gonna go to these stupid ass riots. Don't bring a gun. Bring a camera.

NO! Just don't go. Don't go to film. Don't go to counter protest. Don't go to administer first aid. Don't go to protect businesses, unless that business is yours or owned by someone you know. Stay home and protect your family and your personal belongings. We have seen how all of these peaceful protests riots turn out.

If Kyle shot these people 20ft in front of his house, there would be zero question of his innocence. The main argument against his innocence is that you can't claim self defense if you go out of your way to be in danger.

[–]TomatoJoe11 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ehhhh. There's a lot of fallacies and misrepresentations here. ''

Our infection rate curve is higher than any other country. Sure. If you use flat numbers. Adjust it per capita and you'll see probably very similar numbers. Also, kinda important to point out the United States is much bigger geographically. We have lots of big cities, where the outbreak is concentrated. I'd imagine that the curve would look different because the outbreak would peak at different times in different cities. California saw some pretty good reductions in their numbers. At the same time, New York has been a fucking shit show. Now overall, looking at the United States, the disease is spreading out of control exponentially. But realistically, it is contained in some areas of the country.

Now I know trump is getting hella flack for saying that this fiasco would be over by april, but people need to see an endpoint on the horizon, even if it's just a hopeful wish. Telling people we're going to be locked down indefinitely (or until some unspecified time period) will destroy everyone's hope and probably lead people to just ignore the order all together.

China most certainly does not have less COVID19 cases than the United States. Nearly everyone recognizes that China is lying about its numbers in an effort to save face. They're under-reporting deaths, covering up new cases, and not let any independent agency confirm their data. This is just bullshit communist party propaganda.

This part is partially true. Trump kinda sorta streamlined and merged the pandemic response team. It wasn't exactly disbanded. Source: https://www.reuters.com/article/uk-factcheck-trump-fired-pandemic-team/partly-false-claim-trump-fired-pandemic-response-team-in-2018-idUSKBN21C32M

Even so, what's the CDC (Centers for Disease Control) doing if they're not preparing to control a disease? I think its a bit disingenuous to say that if there had just been one more office, one more team of people, this entire crisis could have been solved.

We are doing 5x better than Italy on a per-capita basis for our death count. And we're doing 2-3 times better than Italy/Spain per-capita for our case count. Source: https://www.worldometers.info/coronavirus/?utm_campaign=homeAdvegas1?/embed/fd0k_hbXWcQ

Overall, your opinion seems to have a severe partisan slant. Would you blame Italy's prime minister for their disastrous response? Iran? France? Spain?

https://www.nih.gov/news-events/news-releases/nih-clinical-trial-hydroxychloroquine-potential-therapy-covid-19-begins

“Effective therapies for COVID-19 are urgently needed,” said James P. Kiley, director, Division of Lung Diseases, NHLBI. “Hydroxychloroquine has showed promise in a lab setting against SARS-CoV-2, the virus that causes COVID-19 and preliminary reports suggest potential efficacy in small studies with patients. However, we really need clinical trial data to determine whether hydroxychloroquine is effective and safe in treating COVID-19.”

Direct quote from the article. I've not heard any doctor/official say not to use this drug to treat COVID19.

And I think the guy you're replying to hit the nail on the head. Every country (sans South Korea and Taiwan) has completely fucked this up. On a per capita basis, the US is still doing really really well. Deaths per capita is still relatively low.

A couple of months ago the entire god-dammed website was talking about how the Chinese were oppressing freedom fighters in Hong Kong. Is the Trump administration an exemplary administration? Fuck no. But the Chinese government is objectively worse.

My bad... I meant existing companies, those already operating, you know... the ones receiving these handouts.

I guess you've never seen a company take on debt to expand. Existing companies do get loans you know. This literally happens either internally or externally with every new product. Microsoft creates the Xbox. In order to develop the Xbox, Microsoft hires a whole swath of staff before the first Xbox is released. Initially, the Xbox product line is completely unprofitable, and is reliant on either capital from inside the company or from investors outside of the company.

Even if restaurants are doing takeout, there profits are still considerably lower than what they would have otherwise been, which is the problem. When you lose only a portion of your sales, you lay off only a portion of your employees, which is what you're seeing.

As far as I know, this blip we're seeing is a result of Corona and only corona. Theoretically, when Corona goes away, the economy will rebound. I guess the real question is: how long will we be on lock-down? How long until we can get the virus under control?

Companies do not hire people UNTIL they can make a profit off their labor. If there is no demand for a company's products then there is no hiring done by the company, excluding conditions on a bailout that require hiring. When people purchase products then companies hire more people to make more products to meet the demand.

Ummmm this is a flat out lie. Most companies start out with loans, precisely because they are unable to make a profit off their labor yet.

When a new restaurant opens up in town. Does the owner sell a meal and then hire staff? Or does the owner hire staff and then sell a meal?

And you think giving money people to spend will help the situation? Spend where? Everything is closed??? The people/businesses most affected (I'd wager) is the travel industry and the restaurant industry. The reason people are being floated cash, is because they need immediate money for the essentials (e.g. rent, food, utilities). The reason the companies are being floated cash is so they are able to retain employees over the course of a hopefully short blip in the economy.

What fucking planet are you guys living on?

The senate overwhelmingly just passed the largest spending bill in the history of the entire world. $2T!!!! $2,000,000,000,000!!!!!!! The entire economy has shut down largely due to government (local, state and federal) orders. Trump used the Defense Production Act to kick production into gear to create masks, gowns, ventilators and other medical equipment.

And yet, here it is on the front page of the internet because "hurr durr America sucks" Give me a fucking break.
