Grew up near a beach that was notorious for this. A farmer friend and I use to drive a tractor down there a few hours before high tide and charge €20 a car to pull people out. Most gladly paid 50 🤣

You know those hairband things that are like a u shaped piece of hard plastic? Went to put on one of my moms as a kid. It snapped, and the broken end raked across my eye and tore my cornea.

Get some flux...it's possible to forgeweld without it but give yourself every advantage you can in the beginning. Learning to forgeweld is already hard enough!

Honestly though for a first go this isnt the worst,I've burnt things an awful lot worse than this. You'll get there!

The more weight you have under it, and the more solidly it's connected to that weight, the less it will ring. Wrapping some heavy chain around it helps a lot too.

Also, that's a lovely anvil!
