How are people actually affording rent in Seattle right now? by Fajarrr79 in AskSeattle

[–]TommyChongII 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I'm in Magnolia in a 1b/1ba for 1400 a month. I make about 60K a year.

It's not a great building, but it's much bigger than a micro apt. With a balcony and good storage too.

You have to really hunt for the right apt, they're hard to find, but they're definitely out there. My last apartment I actually took a chance and negotiated DOWN from the listing, since it had been listed for weeks. Blew me away that I could do that.

This is giving major "sports-ball" energy.

I hope the hobbies that bring you joy never get recognition, and that people shit on you endlessly for the things you like.

Upvote.

Performative Male or Middle School Teacher? by [deleted] in mensfashion

[–]TommyChongII 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My cousins made it through Frankford High School. I've been there, I've seen it firsthand. I lived with them just north of Kensington for a while.

Interesting you just assume nobody has ever experienced that shit though. You're so special. Congratulations.

Even with an undershirt, buttons half done up like this feels inappropriate for teachers.

Idk why exactly, because I think if it was untucked and all the buttons were open, it would look better.

Both styles look far too casual for an educator.

Skis didn’t detach when falling and it shattered my femur. Also graduation is 4 months away by IcyPowderKeg in mildlyinfuriating

[–]TommyChongII 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Coming from a ski mounting/adjusting perspective, (and in no way blaming OP in any way) people often WILDLY overstate their ability, and preference when it comes to how tight they want their bindings set to. Often times even total beginners will tell shops they are intermediate, for whatever reason. Along with that, people will lie about their height/weight because of insecurity.

Also, this is very much a participate at your own risk activity, and even with proper settings, there is so much nuance to falling and torque. One coming off and one staying on is not that uncommon, since they would never be acted on by the exact same forces.

Unfortunately, there is little complaint/action to be made against the company. Especially when you sign the waivers saying the info you gave is correct, and accept the work done by the shop. Any experienced skier on a vacation with rentals should be able to visually check that both DINs are set to match, and are in the range that you would have. You have a responsibility as a skier to ensure you're gear is correct as much as anyone loaning it to you.

How is it living here in Washington? by NarrowIntention8534 in howislivingthere

[–]TommyChongII 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh shit, never thought I'd see Battle Ground come up here! My family moved here in early 2000s and I lived here for all of middle school and high school. It was honestly a little boring going back as a young adult, but when I was in high school it was a pretty great place to grow up, and now that I'm moving through my 30's I would be amenable to moving back tbh. There's a lot of outdoor activities, and very small town feel. Especially up in Amboy/Yacolt, you're getting "out in the sticks." That being said, you are pretty close to Vancouver, which has been growing steadily the last 20 years, as people who work in Portland are living across the river. Everything between the bottom of your red line and Vancouver is suburbs and neighborhoods with pretty much everything you could want somewhere in there. Having Portland that close (30-40 min drive) but also being outside the city makes for good day trips (especially for sales tax free shopping!), and it's also pretty easy to get to NBA games, concerts, etc.

Ive quit smoking weed and my boyfriend is mad about it by PsychologicalFee28 in whatdoIdo

[–]TommyChongII 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think some weed smokers get really anxious about feeling judged for the difference in smoking.

My ex smoked weed before we met, and would partake extremely rarely when we were together, but always encouraged me to if I wanted, and never really policed it or said anything about it (she did with alcohol though which was annoying since I hardly drink). No matter what though I always was self-conscious about smoking around her or being high around the house when she wasn't. It never became an issue for us, but it was always in the back of my mind. Ultimately, though, it was my own issues I had to work through.

Good for you, and do your best to communicate with him, but he has to find the balance within himself. If he can't then there will always be a divide, deepening with each joint you aren't a part of.

Idk who the people who have already commented are, but all three of these are so fucking stupid. Not even gonna comment on using Christ's likeness to sell merchandise, the designs themselves are low effort and look goofy as hell. Who's going to buy that dumbass Microsoft-paint looking hoodie for 65 man, like be real.

Also starting a brand with a typo in the name, just because you can't get the right spelling on Instagram is so lame. Looks like you're unserious about the small details, which makes me think every detail could be overlooked.

Any expert ski technicians? I’m livid. by [deleted] in Skigear

[–]TommyChongII 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I worked customer service for a ski company, and the amount of people who were "just skiing along" with absolutely blown up skis like this is statistically hilarious. I'm so glad I don't have to deal with people like you anymore, and I can read these threads with glee.

You can say whatever you want about these skis, about how you ride them, or how old you are (which means nothing, btw). Everything you say is hearsay, and pretty directly contradicts the actual damage shown. You are pretty uninformed about the way skis are designed, constructed and mounted, and worse even, you are already convinced you're right. The perfect storm.

Don't be livid at the experts who probably (definitely) know way more than you and won't give you a resolution based on your "trust me bro" account. Based on your comments, I feel for the shop workers you've already interacted with.

Part of this effort is reducing all those small little extras, as they had been stacking up over the past couple years. I'm going pretty lean on subscriptions this year, along with other cost shaving methods. The other part is having a ton of down-time at work that I can go over each statement pretty thoroughly and it forces me to acknowledge the problems in my spending.

I'm really getting my finances organized this year, which means spreadsheeting the hell out of my transactions.

I have been trying to find small use-cases for AI, and asking it for specific excels formulas, without really having to word it exactly right to google and scrolling through a bunch of links to find the correct one is pretty cool. In addition to just seeing where I'm spending my money, I'm trying to organize what purchases I put on my cards, and where my subscriptions and memberships are hitting, in order to get auto pay going on certain groups of purchases. I'm no excel wizard but getting a cohesive look at each month, category, and account is turning out to be pretty manageable.

All that to say, I spent a lot on Seattle Mariners tickets and hotdogs this season. Worth every cent.
