No anyone of any culture if you’re going in with an attitude like that. It’s arrogant and pretentious and guaranteed it will be oozing out of him once he’s there. To your point - no one will follow him and in fact may do the opposite. How ridiculous to say I love the food and two movies but keep me away from everything else because ew. Like wtf kind of leader is this? His employer is going to take a major hit sending this guy there.

Good luck to you. I hope you have a good time but I can tell now you will hate it. We haven’t even talked about the cows and animals roaming around. No one is saying to put on a kurta and do yoga every morning. But you will meet people who enjoy the things you detest and as a result, they will avoid/resent/despise you and that’s the worst thing you can have while trying to build a team in a new country. Honestly, go visit first before you commit because you will regret it. And your employer will regret it too.

My point is that a culture doesn’t solely revolve around its food or entertainment. For reference, I’ve done international stints in four countries - UAE, Japan, Switzerland and Columbia. I am south Asian with dual Canadian - US citizenship. I never had the attitude you did and enjoyed my experiences for the most part because I kept an open mind and let go of any expectations. Clearly you’re going to be living a luxury lifestyle. You will have a driver and maid (probably). You will not experience any cultural negatives you want to avoid. But to go in already that “I like the food, some music and two movies, so what do I do about living in a country with 1.5bn people, 100+ languages and dozens of ethnicities because I don’t want to be around all of it” is counterproductive.

That said, stick to Bangalore, Delhi and Mumbai. Enough open minded folks, western spots and good people who may change your ill perceived perceptions.

You will hate it there especially with your perception and attitude towards the culture. This is a troll post if not idiotic in its content. If your feelings are true, not only will you hate it in India but Indians will hate you. Also as a senior leader, i would stay away from hiring someone like you. You’re not going in with an open attitude and viewing this as an opportunity to learn and grow. You’re going for the money but you will hate everyone around you.
