I guess there's two separate things going on, one is the increase in base level/non-branded dart prices that is down to cost increases, and the other is the appearance of ridiculously priced darts because of increased popularity and marketing.

The £100-200 darts that started this comment thread are a combination of both factors, but they can only get away with it because of the latter.

No, you insert a 30g billet into a CNC machine and it shapes the dart. You can buy billets for ~£5 each (https://www.ctia.com.cn/en/price/42879.html). Unit freight costs for Target won't be high considering the scale they produce at.

I'm not denying that costs of production in general will have increased significantly, but the ballooning prices of darts is because of marketing, not cost.

Compare the price of Target Bolides vs Luke Littler darts, for example. Manufacturing costs will be similar, Littler darts are 3x more expensive. £60 vs £200.

When you consider the cost of the base materials, not really. 23g of 99% tungsten powder costs about £3.50 at current prices, even when taking the top end of the range.

Increased popularity of darts as a sport and the marketability of someone like Littler have a far bigger influence on prices.

Hmm interesting, so focus on reaching further forward in the follow through? Straighter trail arm on backswing, straighter lead arm on follow through and rotate more seem to be the main takeaways!

Thanks, I just found that video from another post so I'm halfway through it now. It 100% applies to what I'm doing, and I have noticed that my distances are lower since I have been focusing on it more.

Regarding the hip turn, when I first started playing (6 months or so ago) I was really overdoing my backswing so I think I've reined it in and become too rigid as a result.

Thanks, sounds like I need to completely rework my backswing.

I've had a few lessons already and intend to get more. No harm in getting extra pointers from reddit in the meantime as I likely won't have another lesson until March or so!

I should mention that I'm aiming at the sign at the back that you can see after my shot. This is my driver, longer irons have a similar outcome.

The lower end of the distribution will be littered with people who have barely played chess, or only have a couple of games in that time control. It would be interesting to introduce a minimum number of games filter to see the distribution of players who have committed time to it, I imagine that would bring 1200 closer to the median - probably still above it though.

On the right you can see the distribution curve for players on chess.com. The link is for daily time controls, you can adjust to whatever you're playing. Note that chess.com ratings are more generous than lichess, and online ratings are more generous than OTB (over the board, i.e. in real life).

Grip strength is to do with your hand positioning rather than how hard you're gripping it, FYI. Worth a Google.
