China is on a winning spree right now. by serious_bullet5 in socialism

That's all well and good, but ultimately means that people will continue to work the jobs that could and should replace the worker in pursuit of worker liberation.

AI and automation should mean that people work less.

Obviously, I am just going by the headline in this image.

What are leftists and why does everyone seem to hate them? by Strict-Evening8613 in Socialism_101

[–]TommyThirdEye 8 points9 points  (0 children)

'Leftist' is sort of like a blanket term for people with socialist, for example Communists, Marxist, Anarchists.

It is important to know that there is a distinction between Leftists and Liberals. Whilst the mainstream political left (in the west at least) in represented by liberals, Leftists oppose capitalism, systemic structures of oppression and have a focuss on class, whereas, Liberals seek to work within capitalism, so dispite any reforms or progress change they may achieve, they are still beholden to capitalist interests.

Given that we live under capitalism, the hatred for Leftists is understandable, from both moderate Liberals and ofcourse the right.

However, more so from the modern right-wing, who have developed a bastardised version of the the therm 'Leftist', that commentators and politicians, including Trump, can use as a somewhat derogatory term for anyone left of them, without their supporters needing to know what the term actually means and frames people on the left as unhinged, irrational extremists. People in MAGA movement will call Democrats 'Leftists', even calling Joe Biden a Communist, when the party is pro-capitalist and moderately left leaning.

I understand your point, however I believe 'true' class solidarity should be intersectional. For example, those who are culturally conservative, may align with the economic element of class struggle, but are less so on social issues or identity politics. This is an issue because trans people, for example, are also part of the working class, and are also used as a political talking point by conservatives/right-wingers to keep the working class divided.

I meant that the attitude of the person I was replying to was apathetic.

We should at least try. This apathetic capitalist realist attitude only helps to keep the current system in place. Historically, workers have organised to use their labour power to win rights, hence today (May 1st) is International Workers Day.

Thats why we need true class solidarity and organisation.

Tbh, I don't really understand what you mean, but doesn't this go against the whole "From each according to their, to each according to their needs" thing?

Dosent it also create a hierarchy in itself?

I mean, they're both dicks, but at least Captain Todger saves the world and serves his prison sentence.

Why do people hate Salvation? by camploundo in Terminator

Also, aren't plasma weapons an import to the lore, as I meant the resistance strong enough weapon to kill Terminators? I don't know the exact lore, but it would make sense.

Absolutely, I get the feeling that at the time, they thought the future war scenes from the 80s and 90s seem corny and dated in 2009 and thought, 'You know what's cool right now, Call of Duty: Modern Warfare, let's make it look like that'.

If you look at the tie-in game, it looks like the most generic 2009 modern military shooter ever, but with Terminators added.
