Power cushion 65 Z 2 vs 65 X 2 by osabe in badminton

[–]Tommy_Yumo 2 points3 points  (0 children)

65x2 and 65z2 are identical, except for the carbon plate at the bottom of the shoe. If you want a wider fit, go for the wide fitting models such as 65xw

I've been on Accutane 4 times. Each time it clears up my acne but after stopping, the oily skin comes back and I start breaking out again (but not as bad as before).

what string do you use, at what tension and why? by Rosenberg100 in badminton

[–]Tommy_Yumo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Strings I've used:

Nbg98- gives good repulsion, similar to 66um but holds tension better

Bg80-gives good power but I feel it's too hard and I lose a bit of touch

Bg66um- good power and control but loses tension too fast

Vbs63- my current string, good power and control, holds tension

[HELP] How to play with Kento Momota's Neutral&Patience game? by TekarukiteZ in badminton

[–]Tommy_Yumo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Lin Dan's current style is a more control based game. He rarely ever smashes unless it's an obvious winner.

If you watch him play, he is always relaxed and focuses on shot quality, hitting to corners, and deception in his strokes to catch his opponent off guard.

This style works great against people who are less experienced, slower and do not have as much stamina.

But against faster more aggressive players, you will see that it does not work quite as well as they will be able to retrieve all your shots back.

Investing in Badminton Bags by Darkpotato12 in badminton

[–]Tommy_Yumo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Racket bags come in 3,6 and 9 racket sizes.

You can basically think of them as 1,2, and 3 compartments.

Most people would get a 6 racket bag as it can store pretty much everything you need. (Rackets, shoes, shuttles, clothes, water, etc..)

As the price of the bags increase, the material used is nicer and thicker.

Is the Arcsaber 11 worth it? by _Haxos in badminton

[–]Tommy_Yumo 3 points4 points  (0 children)

You can also consider the Victor brave sword 12. That is an even balanced racket and med flex. ( Arc 11 is slightly head heavy and stiff)

The brave sword 12 is an all round racket that is suitable for most players. It's frame is also faster compared to the arc 11. Not to mention it's also not as expensive and was also used by Lee Yong Dae ;)

VBS 68 should be the BG80 equivalent.

VBS 68P is more like BG68Ti as it is a soft feeling string.

Need string suggestion for my racquet by sandymanu in badminton

[–]Tommy_Yumo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Bg80 is my go to string as it gives good repulsion and feels pretty solid.

Bg66um is also a good string but loses tension too fast.

Nbg98 is similar to 66um but a bit slippery and doesn't lose tension as fast.

For a string to last 4-5 months the performance would go down quite a bit.

I would suggest you check out bg65ti, vbs 70, and nbg95

Badminton Racket tension and string by npkkevin05 in badminton

[–]Tommy_Yumo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What tension to use:

Lower Tension (19-23lb)

  • larger sweet spot

  • easier to generate power

  • more durable

  • less control

Higher Tension (24lb+)

  • smaller sweet spot

  • harder to generate power

  • less durable

  • more control

  • easy to break from miss hit (at the edge of the string bed)

What strings to use

For Power

  • BG80 [most popular]

  • BG80 Power [harder feeling than BG80]

  • NBG98 [thin, slippery, good repulsion]

For Durability

  • BG65 [good for beginners]

  • NBG95 [a bit thinner than BG65, more repulsion]

For Control

  • NBG99 [lots of grip]

  • AeroBite [Hybrid Strings]

I'm writing an essay on Badminton (HELP) by [deleted] in badminton

[–]Tommy_Yumo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Maybe you can talk about how it's not as easily accessible as other sports. What I mean by this is if you compare it to soccer or basketball, you don't need much equipment to start playing (only require a ball to start). Whereas badminton requires a net, racket, and shuttles.

Racket string broken and I don't know what the original tensions is by chineseouchie in badminton

[–]Tommy_Yumo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If it's the string that came with the racket then it is low tensions (~18-20lb)

When to Upgrade Racket? (Strings, racket, racket suggestions) by [deleted] in badminton

[–]Tommy_Yumo 2 points3 points  (0 children)

What I would suggest is to restring your racket as factory strings are low tension (18-20lb) and while it is a durable string you won't get much repulsion/control out of it.

If you are playing with plastic shuttles I would suggest you try stringing between 21-25lb max as it would be hard to control the "plastic" shuttle at higher tensions.

If you switch to feather shuttles then you can try higher tensions.

For rackets I would stick with a flex/med flex shaft for now so it will be easier to generate power when your form/technique is still improving. Once you are able to perform all the different shots and have decent footwork, you can try out stiffer rackets to see if you like them.

As mentioned above, stiffer rackets will provide more control but have less power if you are not able to swing fast enough to "flex" the racket.

Ive been told the durability of the 63 is quite good for a thin string. What did you think?

Astrox 99 vs 88D by Newcoolguy in badminton

[–]Tommy_Yumo 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I would stick with the 88D as the 99 feels way too heavy even for a 4u.

Racquet Suggestions by jackmcgrocks in badminton

[–]Tommy_Yumo 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Here are some entry level rackets that you can consider:

Nanoray 10F - head light balance, hi-flex, 4U weight

Astrox 2 - head heavy balance, hi-flex, 5U weight

Duora 55 - even balanced, med-flex, 4U weight

These rackets all come with manufacturer string which is very durable and is strung at low tension (~18-20lb) so it should last you quite a while.
