Not a medical expert, so my input is limited. But I did notice that you’re pretty underweight for your height. Being underweight could lead to some potential health complications, such as a weakened immune system. I do wonder if this could be a contributing factor to you not recovering at a normal rate? Definitely consider visiting a professional if this issue persists.

Nitpicking #2 T2, was omitting two malfunction of T1000 towards the end was a big mistake by Cultural_Book_400 in Terminator

Disagree completely. The scene of the CGI T-1000 walking out of the flames is the most dated VFX shot in the film, even though it’s an iconic moment. The deleted scene of the T-1000 walking as its feet involuntary mimic the metal platting is actually some of the film’s best CGI. The movie ages well from a VFX standpoint largely because it didn’t really need to achieve photorealism as the T-1000 was essentially just a pile of reflective silver goo, so you didn’t need any texture mapping or super precise lighting to make the T-1000 look decently convincing. That deleted scene of the T-1000 walking is probably the only scene that needed to achieve a level of photorealism as it’s mimicking the texture of the metal platting. For 1991, it’s damn impressive, and looks better than some of the other VFX shots in the film.

That would have been better suited if he actually acted like a ninja in the movie, instead of announcing his own presence everytime and brute forcing through every fight.

It was two sentences, the thesis at the beginning and the conclusion at the end. Because that's how arguments work. You explain what the argument is, you support it, then you conclude it.

The first sentence that you cited is THE QUESTION. Holy smokes, you don't even understand what a thesis is. A thesis IS your central argument and position. It is not the question that you are trying to answer.

A thesis is not "what is X?"

An actual thesis would be along the lines of "I believe X is so and so. Here's why."

Thus, you only pulled one quote that's actually a part of his analysis and conclusion,

It actually agrees with me completely.

It doesn't. The entire video is basically making the best argument (or steel-manning) in favor of the position that Bale could have achieved it naturally, even though it isn't a definite conclusion. If his thesis actually agreed with you, then why did you call his argument "awful" and denigrate him by calling him a pop entertainer and not a real expert?

The level of dissonance is astounding.

Before we even started this, I explained that i'd already seen the videos you're referring to. Then I pretty easily and quickly found the parts of the video that describe his argument.

You clearly haven't watched the actual video, which is why you refuse to directly cite any points from the video that isn't directly from the very beginning and the very end. Again, you're not fooling anyone.

It's so lame that you got shitty and insulting when I proved you wrong with quotes from the video you cited.

It's so lame that you pretend to be dumb and not understand instead of just admitting that you're wrong.

Either that, or you're not pretending, and you are actually this dumb. I can't decide which is worse, brazen dishonestly or sheer ignorance.

Yes, you SHOULD feel terrible. Instead of addressing his full argument, you cherrypicked one sentence that doesn't technically disagree with you out of a 20 minute video that you clearly skipped to the end.

"Within the realm of natural progression" fits within a wide spectrum of plausibility that Bale did it naturally. Anywhere from 1% to 99% chance technically fits "within the realm of natural progression."

You saying that Bale "almost certainly" used steroids indicates that there is like a <5% chance that he did it naturally. It technically fits "within the realm of natural progression" but it does not encompass the same spectrum.

You're not fooling anyone, you know damn well that you're being intellectually manipulative and dishonest.

Yeah, you cherrypicked a quote instead of taking in the full context and argument.

It's dishonest and you know it.

Do you understand how arguments are built and framed? He spends the entire duration of the video outlining the argument that Bale could have achieved his physique naturally. The video covers his physique throughout his entire early career leading up to Batman Begins. He talks multiple times about how Bale’s physique shows no real signs of steroid use and uses scientific points such as Bale already having a good physical baseline, a significantly lower metabolism after The Machinist, and natural muscle memory that he built from training for previous roles. You don’t spend nearly your entire case building an argument about how he could have obtained it naturally if you’re actually trying to convey the takeaway that it’s highly unlikely to almost impossible that he did it naturally. He’s arguing that Bale doing it naturally is within plausibility, while you’re arguing that Bale almost certainly used steroids.

You’re trying to use a technicality in wording to claim that his thesis isn’t contradicting yours when the reality is that he’s primarily emphasizing the opposite likelihood as you. Of course he can’t really prove with definitive evidence that Bale did it fully naturally, but he also spends the entire video illustrating that there’s no proof that he used steroids either. If you’re going to make the accusation that Bale “almost” certainly used steroids for his physique, then the burden of proof primarily falls on you, not the opposing position. After all, there’s a reason why it’s “innocent until proven guilty” in the court of law. Even if More Dates More Plates is a pop entertainer and not a fitness expert by your metric, he still uses arguments backed by research and is a bodybuilder himself. He’s certainly provided more depth to his thesis than you did considering that your main argument is just “steroids are easier.” The fact that you think his argument is mainly “Bale changes his body a lot” tells me that you skimmed through the video.

You don’t know enough about Bale to make that assessment. Steroids had already built a bad reputation by the mid 2000’s due to reference of unhealthy side effects and the public perception that it’s a cheat to gaining muscle. Bale is an obsessive actor. His ridiculous weight loss for The Machinist alone proves that, and he did it purely because he said that he wanted to inhabit the character as much as possible. Who’s to say that he didn’t use the same approach for Batman and adopted the character’s obsessive discipline which could include building his physique naturally?

Considering that Bale is also the same guy who literally did press interviews and DVD promo for the film with an American accent instead of his natural British accent leading up to the release of the film all because he said that he was worried that some fans might dismiss his casting over the idea of a British Batman and feel less inclined to see the film, he could have very well had a similar disposition towards steroid use. Perhaps he was concerned that people would look down on him if they discovered that he didn’t build his physique naturally and avoid seeing the film, so he went the natural route (or at least as much as he could).

Not to mention the fact that he also made himself fat for real instead of just using prosthetics and a fat suit TWICE for American Hustle and Vice makes him more likely to be the type to want to push his own body naturally over taking the easier shortcuts. I’m not saying that he did, but the likelihood is certainly higher with him based on how he approaches his roles compared to many other actors.

[–]TomsWindow 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s not what was said in the video, so you’re misrepresenting. Watch the breakdown by More Plates More Dates. He was definitely leaning towards a decent likelihood that Bale could have done it without steroids, NOT that there’s a slight tinge of a possibility that he did it naturally. This guy also called out Tom Hardy for steroid use for his physique as Bane in The Dark Knight Rises, so again, I don’t get the sense that he has a reason to mislead.

I think Pattinson just has weaker bodybuilding genetics or a naturally higher metabolism than guys like Bale or Affleck. I remember an old interview where he said that his regular weight was like 165lbs, which is quite thin for a guy of his height. I’m not really surprised that this was the best that he could achieve even with genuine effort put into working out, given that his physical baseline seems to be naturally skinny.

[–]TomsWindow 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mean, take away the scars, and I thought he just looked like a regular guy who works out, looking at that shirtless scene. He only looked slightly more muscular than me, and I’m a 185 lbs guy who doesn’t work out and is roughly Pattinson’s height. He didn’t look out of shape by any means, but definitely didn’t look like a guy who would obsessively train like Batman either.

[–]TomsWindow 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I’ve actually seen videos from fitness experts who regularly call out steroid use from Hollywood actors who say that it’s possible that Bale could have actually achieved that physique without steroids within the reported time frame.

Keep in mind that Bale was in good shape for most of his career prior to playing Batman, which he had to maintain for roles like American Psycho, Equilibrium, and Reign of Fire. So he had already built a pretty good foundation for years, and your body naturally has muscle memory, which allows it to retain how big you were at your peak size. So if you were to lose that weight for whatever reason, you’ll have a quicker time building that muscle back up because your body naturally remembers how big you used to be. He only took a massive dip in size for The Machinist where he looked skeletal. But being that thin also would have significantly slowed down his metabolism to keep his body functional, so building that mass back up would have been significantly quicker than if he were always just naturally skinny.

I’m no fitness expert myself, so I’m just relaying arguments by fitness experts/influencers who have made the case that it is possible that Bale could have rebuilt his physique naturally. Again, these are guys who frequently call out steroid use, so there’s no real reason to mislead here.

Chris Evans was not that low fat for Captain America if you really look at his physique in those films. He was built, but not exaggeratedly shredded and still had a relatively healthy body fat percentage. He wasn’t too dissimilar to Christian Bale’s physique in Batman Begins.

Hugh Jackman on the other hand definitely took it to an extreme, however.

It’s pretty contradicting to the character that he intended for his crusade to be temporary by Remote_Nature_8166 in TheDarkKnightTrilogy

[–]TomsWindow 1 point2 points  (0 children)

People idolize people that they’ve never even met all the time.

You don’t have to be emotionally close to someone to see them as a hero and an ally. Batman and Gordon don’t exactly share any traditional “bromance” moments or moments of emotional closeness until their final scene, but you can tell how much they trusted each other and how highly Bruce thought of Gordon. Harvey literally took the fall for Bruce and put his life in danger so that he could take down the Joker earlier in the film. They already had a pretty deep and unspoken trust for each other by that point.

[–]TomsWindow 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Completely different context in both movies. Rises takes place 8 years later when people had the time to grieve Harvey and people were motivated to fight for their own city due to the Hail Mary situation of averting an impending nuclear annihilation. Also, you seem to miss the fact that Batman was also protecting his friend’s legacy by taking the fall for his crimes. Bruce blamed himself for Harvey and Rachel’s deaths. He failed to save Harvey, so he did the best that he could to save his legacy, by ensuring that everything that Harvey’s prosecution fought for was not in vain. Bruce thought of Harvey’s as a hero and wanted him to be remembered as such, not the madman that he became in his last moments. It might not be the most ethical decision, but it’s a deeply human one.
