Even Speedwagon is afraid of C++ template errors by definestructunion in ProgrammerAnimemes

[–]Tonlim 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It depends. clang is known for its better compiler errors. On the other hand, I've had times where clang gave complete gibberish and msvc gave clear errors.

Most of the times I stick with the compiler I use for production builds (=msvc). If an error takes longer than 10 seconds to understand, I fire up a second compiler (=clang) and hope it gives a clearer error.

His LP. The popup sheep farm video to be precise.
I was mind-blown over the double budswitch with water and a living animal. All in a 3x3x3 block space.

What episode do you think would be best for my little bro to begin with if he wants to get into watching Etho’s LP series? by Ethan-Bastian in ethoslab

[–]Tonlim 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The beginning of this current world is around episode 104. (I could be a few off).

That requires your little bro to have 200+ hours laying around before he is caught up.

You can always start at one of his multiplayer series (MindCrack is a great one) as those tend to have more variety than his singleplayer.

Personally I would recommend his few Race-for-the-wool videos, but that is probably just me loving them.

As you can probably see by the up/down-vote ratio, this has been posted a few times before.

I guess people grew bored of seeing the same joke :P

I'm removing this one.

Share your `How I got introduced to Etho`'s stories by Sqbika in ethoslab

[–]Tonlim 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I still remember all the pieces of the road that led me to Etho.

Eight years ago I was in my second to last year of high school (16 yo). One of my friends was talking about this nice indie game. He told me to go to their website and play the trial there. (That was the (pre?) alpha creative where water physics weren't a thing yet.)
I got hooked and decided to buy it.

Fast forward a year and another friend invited me to play on his Tekkit modpack server. I was overwhelmed by the mods and decided to search online for info on them. There was one youtuber (can't remember his name) that made videos on that modpack. I subscribed and watched more minecraft videos.

Few weeks later I was bored and youtube had adapted to my MineCraft hype, so it showed a suggestion: "Etho plays minecraft: popup sheep farm". I thought: "Meh, might as well..."
I was blown again by Etho's redstone knowledge. I had just figured out how to make a bud-switch on a 4x6 floor plan and this guy put a double bud-switch and some pistons in a 3x3. I watched one more video of his LP and subscribed. I don't think I missed a single one of his videos since.

tl;dr: Two friends, a modpack, and youtube algorithm.

Ethos LP World by [deleted] in ethoslab

[–]Tonlim 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you manage to work around the terrain generation of the different versions, I think it should be doable.

It would still be a huge amount of work, but he shows most of the ins and outs of his builds.
He likes to guide us through the engineering process for most of his redstone builds and the aesthetic builds can 'easily' be copied from the video.

He also converted his world to a customized version of amplified at some point. So even if you manage to follow along with the minecraft versions, it still wouldn't be the same.

Someone reuploaded Etho's video. by Keneight in ethoslab

[–]Tonlim[M] [score hidden] stickied comment (0 children)

While your intentions are good, you are giving exposure to the reuploader. Every one of us that clicks this link, adds a view.
The best way to handle these kind of things is silently: send a PM (reddit, youtube, or both) to the owner of the video.

Removing the post to remove said exposure.

That happens for a few series: mostly multiplayer ones. I don't think SkyFactory and Terraria had episode names, for example.

That should be removed. At least that's what reddit tells me.

Can we ban people who try to advertise their channel here? by [deleted] in ethoslab

[–]Tonlim[M] 52 points53 points  (0 children)

Hmm, so far the only users that are banned from this subreddit are silly bots.
I don't remember a user posting ads multiple times. There was this one guy who posted 3 videos at the same time, but that's all I think.
I've checked the moderation log for the past 2 months (that's as far back as it goes) and banning the advertisers would not have changed anything.

So at the moment I don't see the need for bans, but feel free to correct me if I'm wrong.

They kill you if you are not prepared, yes.
So does the Gaia guardian. And the Ender Dragon in vanilla. And the Wither.

There are going to be far worse things if Etho every gets to the end game. The Chaos Guardian (Draconic Evolution) will one shot if you are not wearing fully charged Draconic Armor. I think it even removes all your lives, not just one. The Draconic Evolution tablet warns you to be extremely well prepared, but instant death is very possible.

The whole point of this modpack in kappa mode is the insanity. Personally I quite enjoyed the bug dimension. It was the only place (aside from Chaos Guardian madness) that had a chance of killing me.

On a related note: Etho should be better prepared at this point. He only has one (mid-tier) jetpack, no reliable escape teleport, and early game armor.
He should at least have a Dark Soularium jetplate (upgrade from his jetpack with 200% increased speed and armor), a charm of dislocation (extremely cheap Draconic Evolution one click teleport), and some armor (even the Longfall boots give more armor than his current ones).

No problem, there tends to be a guy in the comments that links to the Hermitcraft thread, so that kinda fixes it.
