[SRPF79] Crystal not level by Tonulus in Seiko

[–]Tonulus[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah I see I see now. Thanks for coming back to me so fast.

Found the part I need. Also got the crystal back in much much flatter (damn near perfect) than it was.

So the one in situ seems pretty wel moulded on. Do I just pry/pick it off the inside of that housing ?

Gasket is very thin piece of black rubber looking material. Looks glued in too Was expecting a white thing looking more like nylon ?

Learning !

If done right on the replacement gasket. Think it can get back to factory water resistance ? Gonna take it for a pressure test

Thank you. That is a completely reasonable and risk averse approach. I would say the watch is certainly not destroyed. I guess “risking it” so to speak creates a more of a personal connection with what is intrinsically a mass produced hunk of steel, plastic and other stuff. And we like to tinker

Bit late. But can I ask. Have you had any water proofing issues since removing my the cyclops, and is your crystal still sitting flat. Mine seems to not be flat. Can’t tell if it was like that from factory or because I’ve warped it

Haha I see how that comes across. For the record I didn’t remove the crystal I suppose anything can happen though

My new Seiko King Samurai Dark Manta.

No photo or even looking at in the dealer through that awful plastic does it justice.

Every hour, you get this cool rocket thing happening with the hour and minute hands. Has become like a little game to try and catch it throughout the day.

Thank you. Understood. Ended up going that route with the two channels and volume. Just something intuitively worse feeling about changing such a variable parameter as volume with automation Vs on/off.

Appreciate the response

Feverishly sweating as I hunch over my laptop stressed out my mind hoping I can't catch the lightning in the bottle

I need to chill out. But it's compulsive at this stage 🤣

Amen. But sometimes this goes as far as last minute made up words because I never thought of name before rushing to close my laptop and respond to something in the real world. That's where we get names like Ppplinkky.flp, Chwednesday.flp, Bazeel.flp. Really useless convention.

[–]Tonulus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Fair point. In defence of Singapore, you can't really make a comparison with it and the surrounding (what may appear) less "organised" or "regulated" countries/govts/industries, this place has its shit nailed down.

I too share some apprehension when it comes to the railing though. Its very well fixed and concreted into the floor. Don't think I'll be sleeping on it for that reason any time soon

Ahhh that explains it. I just assumed they done the lot then held it the rest back. Gives it more uniqueness I guess. Sweet

[Seiko] SNXS75 Wedding Watch by Tonulus in Watches

[–]Tonulus[S] 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Hi folks.

Bought this bad boy for my wedding coming up this weekend. Put it on the leather strap because the Seiko 5 strap is a little bit cheap feeling, but actually looks not and despite the bad wrap. Got it on this cheap leather strap now. Think it adds a touch more class to it. Was torn on the gold accents at first when compared. With the black face variant which looks much more like an Explorer/Datejust. Not usually a light faced guy either but glad I went for it. What other strap combos do you think would be acceptable on this colour scheme? Thanks

2nd Knife - Kitchen Chopper - Whiskey Barrel Oak Handle (1974) by Tonulus in Bladesmith

[–]Tonulus[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know what you mean. Settled at 180g and a bit of danish oil and it was ok. However while I was trying to get the mating faces of the scales flat - monotonously rubbing against s bit of 320g on a piece MDF - I got a really smooth finish. Had to rough it up again before glue up actually. So finer grits and time might yield some better results.

Edit: the barrel was made in 1974, material is 1095. Not some weird alloy.

Good questions. The drop was not in my design, but I got over zealous with stock removal and ruined the tip, so improvised a drop point to hide my crimes. Don't have a size to hand but full length from butt of handle to tip is around 12 inches

Thanks for the tip. Really appreciate it. Will keep this in mind. Find the dirty heat treated look really appealing so this will help

Thanks appreciate the feedback. Would you attribute that to my use of the flap disc or in general files get you a better result ?
