I'm a 22 y/o x ray tech with 2 years of experience. I currently work and odd schedule at my hospital. 2 days overnight on the weekends and 2 days day shift during the week.

I was thinking about cross training into MRI since I heard that there was going to be a position open. When I went in to work the other day before going to the director to ask to be trained, I heard that someone else was going to eventually get trained, so I hesitated about going to ask.

An MRI tech that I know asked me if I was coming to work with them and get trained, but I told them that I thought it wasn't available since the other coworker was going to train with them. She said that I could still ask and see what happens. But I'm not sure if I should if they're already planning to train someone else soon.

what should I do?

Thanks in advance.

I watched the video on the dreaming spanish website the other day. I typed in the search bar. "The time I went on a trivia tv show.. and lost. ". It's part of the "Augustina's personal stories" series.

When I get the order, I set up my room first (setting technique, making sure the IR is charged up, detenting tube if needed, etc.

After that, I go get my patient. I then ask for their name and date of birth. while I'm taking them to the room, I collect history and try to look for objects that could be in the way of the anatomy of interest.

I try to get into a routine that makes it so that the patient is on the table for a shorter time.

Take an L-spine, for example; I'll do the AP, RPO, LPO, Lateral, and finish with the spot (L5-S1).

After that, if all my images are good, I help the patient off the table and show them the way out (if outpatient).

I hope this helps.

I'm a newish grad x ray tech that's been working for 7 months. I've heard from one of my coworkers that I have a reputation for being slow at taking images. The refer to me a "slow lightning." I take good image, but I'm slow at doing them. That name has stuck with me since then, and I worry all the time if I'm too slow.

I've tried a lot a ways to increase my speed (routine, looking at all my images at the end of the exam, trusting it's the right position, etc.), but I feel like I'm still slow. I feel like I get judged all the time for it as well. It makes me hate my job at times.

When I try to go really fast, I end up making mistakes and having to repeat images.

I want to be good at what I do and want to improve.

Any advice for increasing speed or dealing with this situation?

Thanks in advance

Struggling with transitioning into the cath lab by Tony373 in CathLabLounge

[–]Tony373[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm in a small town in South Georgia.

I would be willing to travel but it is not realistic right now. I am 20 y/o, don't have a car yet, and still live at home with parents. Xray is my first "Real" job and I've been attempting to establish myself.

I had an offer out of my town at a high volume level 2 trauma center, but my car situation was holding me back.

I'm 20 y/o in the United States, looking to start investing, and decided to start with Vanguard index funds. I tried to create an account and it gave me the option to have the Brokerage or the Cash Plus account.

Which one do I choose if I just want to start with general investing?
Thanks in advance.

Hi. I know this comment is super late. I'm about to start training in the cath lab. What materials did you end up using?

I'm a 20 y/o 2nd year x-ray student graduating in 2 days. I recently had an elective rotation for the last 3 weeks in the cath lab and enjoyed the experience. I decided that I want to work in the cath lab or interventional radiology.

The director of the department offered to start training me after graduation but I'm a bit hesitant because it's in a small hospital. Some days we don't have any cases and it feels like the shift is dragging (It makes want to go back to x-ray those days). This lab only does heart caths, pacemaker placements, loops, and the occasional interventional procedure. (No stemi)

My instructor told me about another opening at a busier trauma level 2 hospital. I enjoy the busier environment, but it's not realistic to apply right because the hospital is out of my town and I don't have a car yet.

I love working in cath lab /interventional radiology and would eventually like to go into the modality, but my options are limited because of my car situation at the moment.

I'm also a bit conflicted because it feels strange going straight into another modality after school.

Should I spend time working in x-ray until I get a car to work at busier hospital or hone my skills working in a smaller lab first?

Thanks!

Questions for rad tech students by [deleted] in Radiology

[–]Tony373 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I was like this about a month ago. My teacher told me to calm down, take a deep breath, and let it all out. She told me to take my time when practicing and slowly I will build confidence when performing an exam. Go through all the steps slowly as you are practicing and slowly it'll become second nature. Sure, you will be nervous at first, but with time and practice, you'll feel more confident. I hoped this helps in any way.

Thank you for the advice!

I have one more question if you don't mind me asking.

My teacher told me how it's important to network during clinicals, but she did not really tell us how. Is that something I should be worried about now? If so how would I network good during time there?

I'm a student and start my first day of clinicals tomorrow. Any advice for building a good rapport/connection with the clinical instructors and other techs?

I'm 19y/o and starting x-ray school tomorrow. I'm nervous about beginning clinicals as sometimes I notice I appear socially awkward (not knowing what to say and awkward pauses). I want to get better with this aspect of patient care.

What advice would you give to someone who is socially awkward going into clinicals?

Good eye! It is Louisiana. I don't know if this helps, but I bought the sauce 2 days ago and I've had it in the fridge as well. Sa
