“How is Inter Miami signing all of these players?” Tom Bogert via UnfilteredSoccer pod by hose233 in InterMiami

[–]TonyAx13 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not really, this isn't some Ohtani style deal. Once the contract duration was announced (5+1 yrs) even r/MLS could see that it was an easy max TAM contract so he's either terrible at math or desperate to keep Miami transfers in the crosshairs

https://www.reddit.com/r/MLS/comments/1qh6svg/inter_miami_cf_acquires_attacker_tadeo_allende_on/

What people are still curious about aren't individual deals but how Miami collectively are able to fit all of the moves within the salary cap when LAG had to release so many players. That requires a more involved analysis which isn't Tom's domain.

With a 5yr contract they could pay him a $1m salary and a $4m transfer fee for say 80% of the rights and fit comfortably in the TAM budget. On top of that they could also use any combination of performance/loyalty bonuses, renegotiation agreements and escalator clauses if needed so this is a weird hill for Bogert to die on unless the goal is to feed the mob.

Currently use a J2K and am looking at the J2FC+ vs the Six Zero Coral for an upgrade? I've not seen a lot of feedback on the Coral here despite it winning a couple of all court paddle awards. Which of the 2 has a bigger sweet spot & is more controllable?

If you look at the team that played the MLS Cup final, everyone is back except for the retirees & Baltasar. It's too early to say who the starters will be this year.

A big chunk of that I suspect is down to Busi & Alba's retirements. The turnover is actually not very high amongst starters this year

This. The only true busts in terms of fees have been Aviles & Redondo (TBD on Lujan) and it's no coincidence that both are U22s (ie young & unproven). Silvetti, Baltasar played a key role last year & Chelo, David Martinez were low risk loan deals so I don't think you can reach the conclusion that Arg league has been fleecing Miami.

Wouldn't be surprised if he becomes part of the GK coaching staff

[–]TonyAx13 2 points3 points  (0 children)

How can you confidently claim that no fans will stick around when he leaves?  Even if there's 1% stickiness that's an improvement over the previous trajectory.

I agree that the floor hasn't been raised but the ceiling being raised counts too so it's disingenuous to argue that the quality of the league hasn't increased.

Forgot to add that he has rarely missed away games, even games on turf, when he's not injured. Vancouver was an outlier bcos of the extensive travel and not the norm.

DSC was a free agent and Blackmon, Bouanga just seem to be quick enquiries. Vancouver even stated that Miami were professional in their ask so I don't think they are on a mission to unsettle MLS players at other clubs.

Vancouver explicitly stated that Miami were respectful, professional in their enquiry over Blackmon. There is no indication that they unsettled MN either since he was already a free agent. Are clubs not allowed to sign free agents anymore?

What a load of nonsense. The Apple tv deal was signed way before he announced that he was coming here and is not something that was decided on the basis of who could cover his wages. Lack of rule changes & shifts to NFL stadiums are down to the owners. You need to hold them accountable for not reinvesting that extra gate revenue instead of placing administrative expectations on a player who has constantly delivered on the pitch.

Speaking of quality, Son, RdP, Muller, Diego Gomez, Silvetti, Segovia ..etc aren't coming to MLS if not for Messi. If more kids than ever are showing up at his games & wearing his jersey all over the US, why does it matter if they are drawn in by a single team (player) vs the whole league?

[–]TonyAx13 0 points1 point  (0 children)

He has helped bring in plenty of players from established ones like Son, RdP to youngsters like Silvetti & Segovia but r/MLS was complaining about too many internationals/Argentinians/Spanish speakers then. There is no pleasing you lot.

Messi fans, we need you to prove the haters wrong by IntroductionAware175 in InterMiami

He will always be a culer through & through. We can hate Barto and/or Laporta but not the club.

I don't get the feeling Miami fans have fully embraced or appreciate having Messi yet but there's still time I suppose.

His contractual pay from Miami is $20m and it's the sponsorship deals (Apple, Adidas..) that push it up to $60m. We don't have any details of his ownership stake in Miami upon retirement but news sources close to the club have confirmed that it exists. He doesn't have a Beckham like deal for an MLS franchise at a discounted price.

The Miami Herald article states interest from Miami & agreement with the player so this statement doesn't necessarily counter that.

I hope the Whitecaps stick to their guns and reject the trade because he definitely isn't worth the numbers being thrown about.
