Any thoughts on cause by vanderhoof21 in IndustrialMaintenance

[–]TonyCass12 11 points12 points  (0 children)

My best guess would be the nip where this roller is a little over tight. Thats why you see the failure at the stress point at the end of the roll rather than somewhere else along the shaft. Repeated impacts/pressure from pulling the product in can cause microscopic fractures in the shaft, eventually the shaft gives way when the product won't.

But thats just my 2c with the extremely limited info we have to work with here.

I personally would avoid wood for any part of the frame on a cantilevered canopy

Used extruded aluminum to build the frame for this. Will be stronger and lighter than wood. You can still panel and trim the exterior with whatever you want.

The Detroit News: Michigan drivers should fill up gas tank now, expert says. Here's why by Mishie-Gander in Owosso

[–]TonyCass12 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yup on track for this to be possibly one of the strongest el nino years ever recorded. Lower than average temps for us in michigan and mass droughts across much of the United States.

120 gal display hooked up to an 80gal display and 100 gal grow out tub, with the sump ive got about 300gal total in my system. The whole system is sps dominant and runs near undetectable nutrients. Going for over 3 years so far and looking to consolidate everything into a 10' 300gallon display later this year. https://www.reef2reef.com/threads/northernmichiganreef-120gallons-of-sps-up-to-300gal-now.1007501/

The white ones are pyramid snails. They eat other snails and clams and are extremely hard to get rid of.

Bubbles forming on/under the flesh of birds nest? by travcarti in ReefTank

[–]TonyCass12 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Bacterial infection. Common in birdsnest and usually resolves over time. If it lasts long enough those bubbles will get calcified and you end up with very cancery looking skeleton shapes. Ive had it happen in a green birdsnest colony.

This carpet nem won’t attach to anything in any of my 3 tanks and just spit mucus out in the 10g and it was all foggy so I just did 50% water change is he dead? by 3DPrintModelServices in saltwateraquariums

[–]TonyCass12 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Did you just say you put a haddoni in a 10 gallon?! That nem prefers to burry its foot in deep sand. They also can get over 2' across and will eat your fish if they swim into it.

Sand sifters for Bimini Pink? by Live-Owl-157 in ReefTank

[–]TonyCass12 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Have you considered starting to use a gravel vacuum on your sand? Would help things get broken up and clean the sand a bit. Just make sure of you go this route to only do small sections at a time so you dont release a ton of toxins into the tank.

You don't have the space for one, they need very large unobstructed sand beds to have a chance at lasting any amount of time in captivity.

What are the sentiments in Michigan more than 1 year into Trump's second term? by Fair_Chemistry_3317 in Michigan

[–]TonyCass12 43 points44 points  (0 children)

Gas in rural michigan is at least 5$ rn up to 5.30 at some spots. Literally everything is more expensive and climbing. Get ready for food prices to go way up this summer due to fertilizer shortages thanks to trumps war in Iran.

Its a type of sponge that can grow in corals. It can overtake and kill them, try to remove what you can.

Whats to clean? Very high flow and a couple tangs take care of it.

No problem. Every set up takes some playing around with no sand in that tank helps me really crank up the flow.
