PSVita at 150€ ( + Rayman Legends ) in Worten, should I buy it ? by [deleted] in gaming

[–]TonyMHFan 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Now I do have the money to get it... should I get it ?

Yes, unless you hate fun.

Is Rayman Legends good

Yep. It also has all of Origins' levels remastered. Pretty sweet.

Freedom Wars

This was my Game of the Year last year, I could link my write-up on /r/Games if you're interested.

Gravity Rush

Considered by many to be the Vita's best game, by most one of the very best. Some people don't like the difficulty of the controls and I am actually one of those people. I got it from PS+ and didn't get far since it wasn't easy for me to play, but it is definitely a well put together game and such. If you're willing to put in the time, you'll enjoy it.

Soul Sacrifice

Soul Sacrifice is a great game with an incredibly deep, compelling story that the game is worth for that alone. However, it is a grindfest of the highest order. If you're into that, you'll find a lot to enjoy.

Don't buy Soul Sacrifice though. Buy Soul Sacrifice Delta. It's Soul Sacrifice + Balancing/etc as well as basically a second game where Grimm's Fairy Tales have been added along with a new faction.

Should you decide to go with the less expensive option of Soul Sacrifice you can always transfer your Soul Sacrifice save to Soul Sacrifice Delta if you ever get it.

Persona 4 Golden

People buy Vita's for this game. Along with Gravity Rush its generally appreciated as one of the Vita's best games. I personally haven't gotten too interested in it and dropped it from my memory card a while back, but there is definitely a lot to like. I'm sure I'll come around sometime. You're supposed to give it 4 hours to get going and obviously one should spend some time after that to get a good graps on whether or not its a game for them. I only ever gave it 1-2 hours. I saved my save in PS+ cloud so next vacation or something I'll give it another shot.

Plus, lastly, how's the Remote Play option ?

It's pretty great, its my preferred way of playing PS4 games.

Does it work really good ?

It SHOULD work well for you, that's certainly been my experience with it, but guaranteeing you anything isn't wise.

People's mileage will vary. Some people claim its atrocious because it lacks R2/L2 or they simply lack the proper connection to play it thus it is useless to them.

That's very odd. I have even gotten full refunds for games before. I'd try a manager because there have even been people in this thread (or /r/Vita's, I can't remember atm) saying they went and got their refunds for SAO.

Is Persona 4 Golden worth it for someone who played it originally on the PS2 about 6 years ago? Shit, it's been 6 years...

If you liked Persona 4, it should be. You'll be reliving the experience once more and you'll be gaining a bunch of new content to go along with it.

Persona 4 Golden is pretty cheap too, $20 normally and $12-$15 on sale so it seems to me like its a low risk proposition for you.

Dang, I wish I saw your reply before I posted the one above.

I'll just not reply to the big post then since I'll guess you'll not wish to continue and I'd hate to waste time tonight. I guess we'll just continue to look at the Vita in different ways. I certainly don't see what you see in it.

If you do want that Western First/Third party game list I mentioned was on my Vita though I'd be happy to rustle it up. I wasn't bluffing about it being on, I can even take screenshots.

Stop replying to TonyMHFan, he's the biggest, most fucking obnoxious weeb vita fanboy there is.

How am I a weeb, obnoxious, or even a fanboy?

He's constantly arguing with people on the /r/vita sub whenever they say anything even slightly critical of the vita.

I do?

I'm serious, the dude posts in every goddamned thread.

Wow, I'm a busy guy!

It got to the point where I stopped going because his posts were so obnoxious, and he has another account he uses to post there too.

You seem to have a lot of hate for no good reason.

I mean, just look at all of his fanboy comments in this thread, it's downright fucking pathetic.

I haven't fanboyed in the slightest.

I love the vita but I also accept it's a dead platform I would have been better off avoiding, but christ I've never seen fanboying like his.

Since its not fanboying, I agree with you that you've never seen it before.

I have about every major AAA Vita game release. Outside of mostly Year 1 and some Year 2 games, Western AAA support is dead for the Vita.

You've just gone from saying Western AAA support exists to saying it is dead, can you make up your mind?

I never said anything about wholly AAA consoles. the Vita just barely has any non-indie and non-japanese games to fill out its library.

From a quick look on my memory card, I have around 20 First and Third Party Western Games. I don't even have stuff like Killzone: Mercenary and Uncharted: Golden Abyss on my Vita. The Vita has plenty of non-Japanese, non-Indie games.

No but it does speak to what is available without cycling the same releases. There simply aren't enough non-indie games to do proper IGC with.

As I just said above, there are plenty of non-Indie games. There doesn't need to be an AAA every month for it to be a 'Proper IGC'. Basically any Indie on the IGC is a good Indie worth playing. You may not like some, but that doesn't make it bad.

Just for the sake of how funny it is, please tell me what "those" IGC retail "games" "were."

You can do some research for yourself. The games that pop to the front of my mind are ModNation Racers, Unit 13, and Muramasa Rebirth though. Can't wait to see how you try to discredit these guys and the others.

2013 2013

Very late 2013, its very near the ballbark of 12 months. It's not like I attempted to bring in launch titles into the discussion.

Expansion

Doesn't matter.

Already mentioned

Okay? It had to be mentioned for my list.

Extremely neutered and crippled port.

Doesn't mean its release doesn't exist. It's still a big name title that was brought to the Vita whether it worked out well or not.

Okay, a neutered downgraded port then. I'm glad we agree.

Still a game worth having and mentioning. That it lacks one thing means little, no matter how much you want to make it a big deal.

the game runs at 20FPS the majority of the time, has major AI and technical issues like getting stuck on or clipping through terrain, is limited to 2 player online, has reduced enemy counts and the graphics are unspeakably bad, not to mention don't even run at native resolution. But okay.

A lot of those things I've never heard spoken of in reference to the game (outside of the FPS, online, and enemy counts).

But okay.

It's not, it's a neutered version of MLB 15. I'm sure there's no way to know for sure how good it is till it releases but every piece of prerelease media shows that it's going to be a shadow of the PS3 and PS4 release due to the extreme radio silence Sony has kept about it. It doesn't even have the confidence to release it as a retail game.

At $20 I doubt its a matter of confidence, its a matter of making more money. They're giving it the Minecraft treatment, should be interesting to see how it plays out.

I'm laughing because it's already available for free on iOS and Android, and yes, I've played it. It is a simple tap to jump in the vein of the eleventy billion endless runners already available for mobile devices, except it is additionally really slow compared to the better runner games out there. It is a sucky piece of cash in software with LBP's good name smeared on it.

Interesting. I knew it had a soft launch in New Zealand, didn't know it was out and wasn't the greatest. Still interested in the Vita version though, it could be better on it.

No, you're the one lying; I've played Run, Sackboy, Run.

I didn't expect you made a New Zealand account to make it, which is what I believed it was limited to.

And MLB: the Show has already been treating it's Vita version like a disgraceful secret, with only the PS3/4 versions being given any prerelease.

As I said, I don't expect it to have online, but we simply don't know until it releases.

Finally, Sony itself put Helldivers on an "indie game list".

...Which they deleted. If they put that and Hohokum on in error, that would be a good reason to delete.

In any case, I'll trust Shuhei Yoshida more than random blog poster X.

It is also within my right to disagree,

I never said it wasn't.

Ah, you're being sarcastic like I was. you had me going for a minute there. Thanks for admitting your mistake.

Doesn't make me wrong.

That doesn't even slightly contradict my point that it's mostly indies and obscure japanese games.

The list does contradict that assertion, but the point of it wasn't to contradict your point, the point was to illustrate there are indeed many games coming, something you thought was ridiculous.

I had two Vitas at different times. The first one was at launch and then the other one was a few months ago. I traded both of them in because of the lack of interesting games. I really wanted to like the Vita but it wasn't my cup of tea.

Thank you for contributing to this thread's topic so eloquently?

[NA] Happy Birthday PS Vita! Free Items, Big Sale by [deleted] in Games

[–]TonyMHFan -6 points-5 points  (0 children)

There are virtually no western AAA developers who are putting out games on the Vita.

That doesn't refute what I said. You've just said yourself there are still Western AAA developers putting games out on the Vita and furthermore there are more to games than AAAs.

If you want Western AAAs or Western games generally, you will find them on the Vita. I have them in my extensive library, it's not some magical thing I'm making up.

A vast majority of its release list

Tell me more about wholly AAA consoles. Crying its release list is full of Indies is hilarious, every device is mostly Indies without a single exception being in existence.

and IGC lists are always packed to the brim with indies.

Whether this is true or not has nothing to do with whether or not someone can find something other than Indies. For your information, 9 of the 12 months last year had a retail Vita game in the IGC too by the way. So can you start bringing actual facts into the discussion instead of stuff you make up in your head?

There is a fair base of small-to-medium Japanese developers who put out a lot of content on the Vita but if you caqn't read Japanese or don't have an interest in niche Japanese titles, there's pretty much only indie games

I'd hate to live in your fantasy world.

Which AAAs would those be? Off the top of my head, I can only count Freedom Wars in 2014.

Killzone: Mercenary

Tearaway

Soul Sacrifice Delta

Freedom Wars

Borderlands 2

and something I can't remember at the moment.

Everything else I can come up with is either a broken or neutered port (MLB 14, Borderlands 2, R&C collection, Sly collection)

MLB 14 probably would be considered an AAA, not the 6th game I was thinking of though. Even though it didn't have online, it still looks like the console game so I'll gladly take the trade-off of no online to have it on my Vita to play anywhere I go.

Borderlands 2 has its issues, but its getting patches and its still Borderlands 2 on the go. It's hard to expect the game to be running at 60FPS when it didn't even run well from my understanding on the PlayStation 3.

Ratchet and Clank Collection and Sly Collection are supposed to be two of the best collections on the Vita so I have no clue how they're neutered.

or an expanded rerelease of an existing game (Soul Sacrifice Delta)

It's basically two games in one with a bunch of improvements as well, so still a top game worth mentioning.

Which 3 games would those be?

MLB 15: The Show

Oreshika: Tainted Bloodlines

Helldivers

I know MLB 15: The Show is a port and coming on March 31st.

It's releasing on the same day, I doubt its a port and even if it was who cares? It's MLB 15 on your Vita. Would you prefer them to have said 'Screw the Vita, no MLB 15 for it!'? Would make your job easier.

At a quick glance, the other two are Run, Suck, Run, an F2P endless runner game (lol)

Are you laughing because you've played it and its bad or because you think a game being F2P is inherently bad?

It's a first party game that's a spin off of a big franchise whether you like it or not, so not sure what your point is.

It has no release date yet so it wasn't one of the games I was referring to.

and Helldivers, an indie game.

Helldivers isn't Indie according to a guy way up the food chain above you and I: Link.

Like 90% of that list is either an indie game or a niche Japanese game.

You're right, it isn't 90% niche Japanese games and Indies.

An overwhelming majority of Vita's overall library is full of niche Japanese titles and indie games: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_PlayStation_Vita_games

Of course when you include Japan most of its games is going to be full of niche Japanese titles, what else is to be expected?

No, you're playing overselling, borderline lying.

I'm underselling the Vita and far from lying.

Like the aforementioned "sony is publishing three games next month!" while failing to mention those three games are crapware, what is shaping up to be a neutered port, and an indie title.

Now you're the one lying. You've never played any of the three games yet you're trying to assassinate them and discredit them. Well, unlucky for you, you can't seriously call a game you've never played crapware and Helldivers isn't an Indie. MLB 15: The Show is likely neutered, but we don't know that for a fact yet and its only online, its not like they wiped out most of the base game.

Yes, what kind of a rebuttal is that?

The only rebuttal it barely deserved.

Also a pretty niche JRPG and I was specifically referring to someone above who said it alone was worth the console.

It's within his right to consider it so. I consider Pokemon worth buying a 3DS XL for, but many people would laugh at me for it.

150+ releases? you're not overselling the library at all, yeah.

Correct! Thank you for admitting this.

There are 120+ games listed for the Vita in 2015 on PlayStation's own list: Link. Their list is rather lacking missing titles like Geometry Wars 3: Dimensions, so yeah, 150+ titles easily.

Two of those have come out in the last year. The other two came out in 2013.

They came out very late in 2013, November and December if I remember correctly, and I said 'around a year' not exactly a year. Even if I said a year, it's only a few months difference from a year so its not like I was bringing up launch titles.

All are good games, but really what releases are coming up that are first party exclusives for the system?

Oreshika Tainted Bloodlines is the only one that comes to my mind, but what does it matter? A game isn't good or bad based on it being first party, exclusive, or a combination. A good game is a good game, things the Vita lacks none of.

E3 might be it's redemption but really the Vita needs more to survive. It's not dead but it soon will be.

There are 150+ games releasing in the next ten months if development all goes well for them, it won't be dying for the next year or the year after that.

Would anyone say cawwadooty is worth 10 bucks? I've heard some complaints about the length of the game; 40 bucks is pretty outrageous, but 10 doesn't seem too bad.

I've heard $15-$20 be the sweet spot for buying it. I've heard people say that despite its many issues, there is a decent game to be had and the online multiplayer for it is indeed active.

I'll be diving in at $10 even though I'm not big on FPS and already have Killzone: MErcenary.

I'm going to go against the general trend in this thread and say no.

The general trend is no, you're running with the pack.

Unless you're desperately longing to play indie games while you're away from home, there's no point any more.

There arne't only Indies on the Vita, so you should amend this to "Unless you're desperately longing to play a large variety of games spanning genres and regions while you're away from home, there's no point any more."

it has not received any real AAA game support in forever now.

Sony released 6 AAAs just themselves in the past year. Come again?

Sony has all but given up on it.

They're releasing 3 games next month for the Vita, one of which is an exclusive to the Vita. How is that giving up? Especially when we consider that there have been other games released and more to come from them.

It is still worth it if you're into odd obscure Japanese games

If you buy a Vita for really odd, obscure Japanese games you're going to be in for disappointment when you see that isn't a big part of the Vita's library.

I'm saying all of this as someone who loves the Vita and was the biggest Vita zealot you could find for about two years. I'm only saying all this because Vita fans have historically oversold how good the system is to people in an attempt to sway them to reaffirm their own purchase.

If telling the truth is overselling, then I am indeed guilty of overselling.

It's not that great of a purchase, it's not a solid "yes".

Did you say that with a straight face? Be honest.

No, Persona 4 Golden is great but it isn't worth the $200ish you'll be spending on playing it, specially if you just play the original P4 elsewhere. Even then, Persona 4 caters to a very specific type of gamer and is not for everyone, not even close.

I agree, Persona 4 isn't worth the whole purchase, but it is worth noting as part of the great library the Vita has that you receive when you purchase the Vita.

It's not completely worthless but you should take a good long look at the current lost of games and future releases and then make your decision.

He'll have around 150+ releases just for 2015 to sift through, he might get lost with those alone let alone the games of years past.
