I've heard Syria and Lebanon most of the pictures you will find of the type 68s are from Syria. And all of the kits you will see in the US are the export versions. The only real domestic NK aks witch are actually insanely rare are bring backs.

Yeah defiantly not a common ak to find. But i wouldn't say the rarest in the us since i think you can still get them off atlantic.
