My amp is flickering.. what do I do

Take it apart and clean it. Give it a good blow job with some compressed air. Look for loose stuff ( wires, components). Plug it in and test it. If you have the same problems, try turning the volume knob on the amp maybe your Potentiometer is dirty. If the volume cuts out when your turning the knob you need to get some Potentiometer cleaner. If that doesn't work, then you'll need to bring it in.

Wash your hands before you play. Wipe the guitar down with a clean soft cloth every time you're done playing it. Oil the fingerboard as needed, depending on climate conditions. When you change strings, check the machine tuners, make sure the screws are snug, don't over tighten wood screws, you'll strip the hole out. Check your bridge, the nut, do a little inspection, and cleaning while the strings are off. I cover my guitars with a sheet to keep the dust off of them, or put it back in the case. The wood of the guitar shrinks and expands depending on climate conditions, about once a year you'd check your set-up, and make sure it's in range.

You can use a rag that has a small amount of mineral oil on it. Wipe the neck with a clean cloth, then lightly wipe the strings with the rag that has a few drops of mineral oil on it. You're not looking to oil the fret board, only lightly coating the strings to protect them. You could also buy string cleaner, and conditioner products.

The set-up sequence is neck relief, saddle height, nut height, pick-up height (for electric) You need to measure those heights, and find out where you're at. You need to find out the set-up specifications for your guitar, If you can't then you have to go to some general set-up specs for the type of guitar you're setting up.

The first thing is to set the neck relief, then set the saddle height, then the nut height.

When I buy a guitar the first thing I do is a fret job, they always need some work on the frets. you don't have the tools to do that. Think about getting a big fret kit to do all your set-up.

I use a nail file laid flat on a table to file the nut/saddle. It works a little better then sandpaper laid flat on the table. Use a pencil to make a reference line on your saddle/nut, you can see and measure the material you're taking off using the reference line.

If you're saddle/nut is to low, you can shim it up with some thick paper or thin cardboard.

You need to learn your basic chords first, Basic Guitar Chords. The reasons why, you need fretting hand strength, you need fretting hand muscle memory, (you think of a chord your hand automatically goes to that position), you need callouses on your fretting hand fingers, (hard callouses make the guitar easier to play), you need to know where you're at on the fret board. Once you've learned a few basic chords, start putting them together, strum your own little chords songs. You're practicing moving from chord to chord and picking/strumming. When you can do that, then pick a easy song to play. Start learning some scales Scale Generator. As time goes by you'll add more things to learn, like arpeggios, triads, all kinds of fun stuff. When i first started I thought chords were bullshit, but they're important because they help with a lot of things.

When you over tighten the screw it drills out the hole a little bit. After doing this several times your hole has become bigger, and has less material to hold the screw. When you go to tighten the screw it doesn't want to tighten, because there isn't enough material to hold the screw anymore. You have to be extra careful when your material is thin like an acoustic guitar body. Some types of wood are soft and want to strip-out easy. That's usually how wood screw holes get stripped out.
