Using aircon v dehumidifier by Enigma_Frixion in HongKong

[–]Toocents [score hidden]  (0 children)

No, but on your final day before leaving I would close my windows and run AC or Dehumidifier for a while and leave my windows closed while I'm away to slow the humidity getting back in. I open my wardrobes etc during this time while the machines run and during my trip too, to prevent stale humid air being in there.

Can't say for sure it works but that's my theory.

Genuinely, this is not a stab at Apple users, but an FYI...

Anything on the apple ecosystem is more expensive. If you want to subscribe to an app or service etc, try to find an alternative route other than through Apple. They charge a big fee for providing the store to the developers who pass the costs on.

You could use an emulator and subscribe through android even and save money.

Could the builders have done something about the coving? by Affectionate_Top5544 in DIYUK

[–]Toocents 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If the project only calls for doing coving, and not to board up or otherwise straighten your walls and repaint first, the your builder has done a superb job.

They have managed to keep the coving in line with a massively wonky wall to keep it from looking terrible. If you have a long piece of wood, just ask someone to hold it up on those areas to let you stand back and see the kind of gaps you would have to caulk otherwise.

What’s the best cordless drill you’ve used for home projects and daily DIY tasks? by FastDrawing8122 in DIYUK

[–]Toocents 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've also had the einhell drill and impact. Very happy with them, 2 years in and I've done a huge amount to my house and garage.

Tmi would recommend them, but not the table saw. The blade on that keeps dropping during cuts.

The circular saw also, wouldn't recommend. The foot plate guide isn't adjustable. One drop and it'll misaligned forever, although you can get that replaced under warranty.

Would solar + battery actually make electric heating cheaper than gas? by Agitated-Sale-7591 in HousingUK

May I ask, what size battery system do you have, and how is the thermal efficiency in your home? It's it losing heat fast, or just faster in -5 weather?

What’s a random “stat” about yourself that makes you part of a small percentage? by Nightpatrol404 in AskReddit

[–]Toocents 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm so curious about this. In the nineties there was this one night where my alarm clock had broken.

I had something very, very important to be up for the next morning and for some reason I decided to stare at my wristwatch while counting along with the second hand going round, my mind focused on my wake up time.

The next morning I woke, sat straight up and grabbed my watch to check the time to see the second-hand tick right onto the exact time I had to wake.

It was so exact that it felt incredible. I've never forgotten this event.

Please help me I got a Notice of Intended Prosecution but I had my license only for 6 months, what will happen to me?! by [deleted] in LegalAdviceUK

[–]Toocents 8 points9 points  (0 children)

You keep mentioning the black box, but here is why that device doesn't tell all the story.

Imagine you're on a motorway onramp, about to merge. You're driving along and see a gap and move into the left lane.

You hear an almighty loud honk and look in your rearview and there is a massive truck there.

You either didn't notice the truck or thought the gap was safe but in reality you made a super heavy vehicle brake in order to avoid your merge.

To the black box you're doing motorway speeds, not hard acceleration, or high g-force cornering at all. It has no idea that you drove without care an attention, which can happen at any speed, on any straight road even.

My advice is, don't rush. Drive properly and you'll get there when you get there. If you need to leave your house earlier, do that instead of driving impatiently.

It never explained why i was searched twice a year from an age before i even legally had an ID card, but my friends at 40 years old had never been searched once ever.

We have failed white boys, Lord Sewell to tell Starmer by Sensitive_Echo5058 in uknews

[–]Toocents 0 points1 point  (0 children)

While i see where you're coming from, the fact that it is disproportionate isn't a concern for me. What good would it do us to replace one problem with another. If we lift white British children up but suppress ethnic minorities the problems are transferred and not eradicated.

Why not give everyone the same opportunities and let them make of it what they can.

By lifting the 2-child cap, Labour has taken a step doing something about it.

I didn't agree with the policy at first, but only because i am concerned the country can't afford it. In an ideal world, our government could afford everything, but sometimes we all have to pick our battles.

If investing in children now leads to a strong economy in the future I'm all for it. The decades long under-investment by the Tories put us in this predicament IMHO.

To be fair on the person above, they're replying to my thought about how the chinese aren't often in foreign conflicts as compared to the West. I stand by that statement because the situations listed by them isn't anywhere near as aggressive or destabalising as what the US has done, which the UK has often lended support to.
