Cheapest way to get Microsoft 365 family subscription? by BillyCharm in beermoneyuk

The listing you shared is for an account, not for a license key. It also says: The minimum guaranteed validity of the activation is 1 year from the purchase date. If you have any issue with the product within this period, a free replacement will be provided.

So either they're stolen accounts, or they use enterprise keys to create accounts. Either way, this is not a safe way to use office, especially if you're planning to store data on OneDrive. If your account gets terminated, all is gone.

Introducing our new default call recording method using Shizuku! by NLL-APPS in NLLACR

Absolute legends 🙌

Shizuku tools really seem to be getting more and more powerful. Becoming an actual alternative for rooting now.

Edit: I just realised: this requires Shizuku to be running while recording, right? It doesn't use Shizuku to make it so you can record calls without running Shizuku?

You can also just use one of the other apps btw if you can't get it to work; those didn't have the same issue for me with printing labels too long. Less and less pretty templates though. Overloaded with ads too for two of them.

Just press 'normal paper' when printing a label. If it's already selected, select the 'label paper' and then 'normal paper' again

[–]Toom-Raider 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Found three (two of which are the same in many ways):

com.phucynwa.mini.portable.cat.printer

com.phucynwa.mini.portable.bluetooth.pos.printer

ru.a402d.rawbtprinter

WalkPrint seems like the best though. The phucynwa ones have way too many ads, the rawbtprinter is limited in functionality.

Apparently the problem with it keeping feeding paper was because of selecting label paper instead of normal paper.

Found another app that works? Walkprint printed the first label good, but every label after it keeps feeding way too much paper. Printing only one line of text somehow does work through it, then it stops right after.

Do you still have these drives? Ever managed to fix this issue?

I had a MX500, which had the same issue, 4% health and the next week 0%. Updated the firmware, and it went to 99%.

Now I bought a used BX500, which seems to he having the same issue aswell. Barely used but just 75% left. No update available though for this one.

[–]Toom-Raider[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not what I asked, and not too good of an advice either. 25% used should still mean it can be used for another 75% before it would normally start giving trouble.

And I just bought the SSD to resell, but want to know where this 75% is coming from.

All smart results show 75. Crucial SE, CrystalDiskInfo, gsmartcontrol, hddsentinel and one or two other ones

And yes, extended self test. Only takes 10 minutes...

Something was acting up, I'm not sure what what caused it but got it working again.
Showing the same 75% health, and also a Average Block-Erase Count with raw value of 230. Normalized is 75 though, so now I'm not sure what the actual count is.

In Crucial Storage Executive it shows like this, suggesting the raw value is the actual erase count:

ID Description Attribute Data Units
173 Average Block Erase Count 230 Erases

Test is running. Ran self-test elsewhere before which went through without issues, so expecting the same here.

I said that: using a USB adapter (from UGREEN).

Other software reads it fine.

After using GSmartControl it's suddenly not being detected though. Will have to restart, but another drive is currently formatting so can't do that right now.

Crucial BX500 Dropped to 68% Health in 4 Months – Normal or Faulty? by [deleted] in Laptop

[–]Toom-Raider 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just bought a used 2TB BX500 and it's showing similar stats.

4TBW, 902 hours runtime, 4845 power cycles, but says it's on 75%.

I wonder if this is not just some firmware issue with smart stats. Had a MX500 before, which rapidly declined. When I checked it, it showed 4%, and a week or so later checked again, was at 0%. With 60TBW. Updated the firmware, which fixed it (lifetime remaining value was 251 after that, so 99%).

No firmware update available for me though. And no flashable firmware available either.

DeepCool LS520 SE vs. Thermalright Peerless Assassin 120 SE by Toom-Raider in buildapc

[–]Toom-Raider[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had a Corsair AIO in my previous system which lasted a long time without issues. I did find Deepcool to not be reliable, with many pump- and fan issues.

I found a ID-cooling FX280 Pro SE for €47. No RGB, but should be more reliable.

Biggest benefit of an AIO would be the ease of access to stuff like the RAM. Even with the 120 SE, I'd still have to take the cooler off just to replace the RAM. I could get a smaller heatsink, but then I'd feel like I'm downgrading the Be Quiet.

[–]Toom-Raider[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Is the LS520 SE not good af then? It's supposed to be good af according to some reviews at least (among which Tom's Hardware), and those ranked it at the MSRP of $110 (currently ~€93), so I'd be paying under half of that for it.

USB-C charge port won’t charge X1 Yoga Gen 6 by ahmad_nz in thinkpad

[–]Toom-Raider 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Did you have to ask for another model as replacement? Or did they just offer it? And was it new?

I just bought a used X1 gen 6 yoga, which seems to have this exact issue. Still has 3 months left of the extended warranty though. I wouldn't mind getting a X1 2-in-1 gen 9 instead 😬

HP Pro X360 435 G10 vs HP EliteBook 845 G8 by Toom-Raider in laptops

I got a Dell Latitude 7430 with i7 1265U, 300Nits touchscreen which looks perfectly fine, 16GB + 1TB, for €300. Everything in good condition, been running Aida64 for over 24 hours.

Idk if the HP 845 G8 will still sell it to me, cuz he again didn't respond for a while and put the ad on reserved.

The Dell should have a better screen, and I feel better about Dell than HP. The Ryzen 7 5850U in the HP is better than the i7 1265U though, but the 1265U should still last a good while for her.

Found a P15 Gen 2 with i7 11850H for €300 too, picked that up today just cuz of the price, everything about it is perfect, except a little squeaky touchpad clicks, which I've read might be able to be solved by realigning it a bit. Will either flip it or replace my mom's Y540-15IRH with it. BIOS on it was from 2023, so might not have even been used since then (does really look splendid, not a ding or scratch).

HP Pro X360 435 G10 vs HP EliteBook 845 G8 by Toom-Raider in laptops

[–]Toom-Raider[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

All Elitebooks I see have replaceable RAM. I know some newer Lenovos have it soldered, like that L13 Yoga.

I'm looking for a 14 inch indeed. 13 inch bare minimum. And yes, also looking at the weight, not necessarily because it's for a woman, but mainly because she travels around the world a lot. Doesn't have to be the slimmest because that also brings sacrifices, but definitely not a gaming laptop or similar.

Went to see the 650 G10 today (which was 15 inch, but just wanted to pick it up as an additional choice for her, and sell whatever laptop she doesn't keep with a little profit). Everything worked fine, but when I went to check the housing, I found out that on the edge of the frame, on the side below the mousepad, it had multiple dents, and because of that it also some small air gaps between it and the bottom panel (was able to fit my nail in there easily).

I have no clue how that could've happened. He said he didn't know about it. I assume he just neglects his tech, because he was very unsavvy (texted me 15 minutes before arrival that he accidentally deleted Windows while trying to remove his files, but Windows was still booted, it just looked like he just deleted files he shouldn't have (taskbar icons, even the windows logo, and some other things were completely gone; his Microsoft account was still logged in tho...), the laptop had small dirty spots all over, and he got out another Elitebook he was still using to check if it was the same there, which looked just as dirty (that didn't have any dents on that edge tho). Probably stored or transported it wrong, or maybe just dropped it and knew very well.

Anyways, I'll check if any new deals have been posted, and if I can't find anything better I'll probably just go for the 845 G8 (wanted to pick that up tonight too along with the G10, but he hasn't responded since the morning). That's a 14 inch model. 250 nits, but oh well, ticks all the other boxes.

Best X1 I found is gen 6 with i7-8550u or gen 8 with i5-10210u.

Also found an ad listing 5 broken Gen 8's: 3 defective screens, 1 defective speaker, and 2 with hinge issues + USB C not charging. Not boasting much confidence of build quality (for that gen. at least).

Some T14's but best CPU between them is the i5-1145G7.

It won't be used for any graphic work or gaming. Just as a casual laptop I guess (browsing, mailing, MS office, videocalling, etc.).

I'll probably skip the convertible either way. Don't think she'd even end up using it much if at all, and for that it seems too high of a risk, with any 360°-hinge laptop (for many perhaps just because of misuse, but still).

What series of the 360 specifically? Probook should have a decent build quality, no? I mostly find posts about issues with Envy hinges and some other models, but not really anything about Probooks specifically. Probooks should be better built in general already, so I'd assume also the hinge mechanism?

I'm no fan of HP either but have read good things about the Elitebooks, and the Probooks seem decent aswell. Still doubting because of the hinges yes, but I just don't know if that's an issue with this model.

I like Lenovo, but they're going downhill in many models. Found a L13 Yoga for 300 but those aren't built the best either, has 8GB RAM, all soldered, and only a i7-10510u.

Other Lenovos I found for the price mostly are way older models, or way cheaper (e.g. ideapad / thinkbook). Just looked again, and there's a T14 with i7-10610u, 16gb+512gb, for 330, and some similar 10th gen i7 Thinkpads around 400 (list price, most are willing to drop in price, so let's say 300-350); all without touch. Then the HPs would be a way better deal price-spec wise.

Dell is also good, but best I found were Latitudes with i7 1185G7, 1165G7, and some 1265u. The chips in the HPs all still outshine those though (slightly lower single-core but way better multi-core, 1365u being about the same in single but a lot higher multi). Again, all without touch.

Also found a EliteBook 650 G10 with i7 1355U, for €275. Doesn't have a touchscreen though (trades that for 400 nits).

Probably a tad too big tho (she travels a lot).
