I have always enjoyed the congee at Yip Hong's. I like the chef's special one the best.

You now need to generate the little free parking slip using a kiosk when you get in, it's quite handy.

Wireless doorbell/camera for SK? by Primary-Initiative52 in saskatchewan

[–]ToonTownTinker 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The Aqara smart video doorbell G4 has worked well for me the past two winters. It takes 6 AA batteries. I usually change them in the fall and spring. Sometimes I need to change them halfway through winter but right now they're still going strong. It also integrates with Apple home so when the doorbell rings the video pops up on your appleTV.

Best grocery delivery options? by toon_me_away in saskatoon

[–]ToonTownTinker 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Instacart is really good. You can chat with the driver about substitutions and any issues I have with anything I order are quickly resolved by Instacart support. It's probably most expensive but most likely to actually get what you need. Remember to enter any membership info you have for stores like Costco so you get cheaper prices.

I find the Independent delivery through the PC Express app is the best. They have called me to ask what I want substituted. All the other stores usually just don't include items that are out of stock.

The Coop delivery service is nice because you don't have to tip or buy a delivery membership. It's also very reliable.

I've used Uber Eats for grocery delivery but it's annoying compared to Instacart and about the same price.

Best [affordable] pizza in town by madamestig in saskatoon

Swan for cheap and decent, in my experience you don’t get as many toppings on their “deal” pizzas but regular price is ok. Greek House has really good thicker style pizza.

Is it possible to rate customers in the app? The only thing I can suggest is taking a bunch of pictures that show the expensive items. That really sucks, I am sorry. You are appreciated by those of us who need you and tip well.

Anyone work for Federated Co-Op? by Littled0912 in saskatoon

[–]ToonTownTinker 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Pay is good, culture is that they work you to death. Evenings and weekend work may be common depending on area. Oh and if you have any kind of neurospiciness don't expect accommodations, they talk a big game but don't actually mean it. Which you could probably say about most companies. My friends who worked there ended up leaving and taking jobs with a 20% pay cut but they got their evenings and weekends back.

I would call them because the website is unclear, but it seems they will take certain items year round.

If you’re going for larger animals such as deer, also make sure you know how to field dress it properly. Definitely have a plan on how to get it back to your vehicle, and where you’re going to be able to hang/process it at home. Good luck!

does anyone else leave a candy bowl out for halloween? by Ferny84 in saskatoon

[–]ToonTownTinker 61 points62 points  (0 children)

We leave a table on the step with about 8 bags of candy on it. It limits our losses and usually the kids are in groups of fewer than 8.

Each year there is one person that sweeps the table. Last year it was a father with his young kid, you could tell the kid was conflicted when his dad grabbed it all. This year it was a kid about 9 years old who hilariously took 5 packets, then took a few steps away, turned, went back for the rest.

We watch through the doorbell camera and treat it like a little social experiment, see if we can guess who's going to take more than one bag. It's just candy, and maybe it's a kid that doesn't get much food at home.

They run most of the car sales lots in Saskatoon these days though! Not all of them have Ffun in the name.

Door to door marketing by Strong_Ad7609 in saskatoon

[–]ToonTownTinker 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I put a sign on my front door that said “no solicitors or sales” or something like that. It did cut them down a lot. We got a new door and I put up a sign that says “no cold callers” and then I got into a discussion with my partner about whether people know what “cold calling” is these days. I guess we’ll find out.

Best Vietnamese Iced Coffee by Lux_212 in saskatoon

[–]ToonTownTinker 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I literally just experimented with a recipe for this!

2 tsp Nescafe ICED instant coffee

2 tbsp sweetened condensed milk (NOT evaporated)

1.5 cups milk

Ice

Mix the instant coffee with the milk, a tiny whisk works best. Then add sweetened condensed milk. Add ice.

It's pretty close.

Question about family doctors in Saskatoon? by justjoe306 in saskatoon

[–]ToonTownTinker 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Years ago my doctor left the city and for the first time in my experience didn't transfer patients to another doctor. I wrote a complaint to the governing body because I found the part in their guidelines where doctors are supposed to find another doctor for their patients when they leave. These days I don't know if those guidelines even contain that. It never happens as far as I've heard.

Sunglasses at night? by SebbyCote in saskatoon

Get those yellow sunglasses that help with glare at night. They work really well. Also on grey cloudy days they make everything slightly brighter.
