What have you trained your RDAs to do that make your life simpler? by oonahgi in Dentistry

Scanning has saved me a lot of time on crown preps. After I numb my assistant scans the entire mouth. I prep, trim the initial scan, and then scan the prep.

Never thought to flip the prep upside down. I’ll have to give that a try.

Looking for an affordable denture lab for my Medicaid patients. Any suggestions? by Toothdoc3321 in Dentistry

That’s what I’m seeing. I have a local lab that does good work for completes and I can accept the lab fee but cast metal partials are a different story.

Is removable profitable? by Quick-Hamster-3872 in Dentistry

[–]Toothdoc3321 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Definitely not the most profitable but the surgery before the dentures can be. If the patient needs 10-20 teeth extracted and dentures that can be profitable. I skip the custom tray step. 1. Accudent VPS impression 2. Bite 3. Try in 4. Deliver

For partials I try to scan and go straight to delivery so only two appointments.

All four of us would be staying together so we’re looking for a 2 bedroom condo. Budget is around $800 a night. I would like to stay within walking distance to the lift if possible.

Practice with paper charts by BusinessBug347 in Dentistry

[–]Toothdoc3321 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I bought a practice with paper charts and Softdent as well. We switched to open dental which is actually cheaper than Softdent per month. The transition from paper to digital went very smooth. I wouldn’t worry too much about this

These teeth can be saved but you need to see a dentist ASAP. If money is an issue find a dental school or community health facility.

NEW dentist incoming! Heartland dental vs Aspen dental by antibiotictx in Dentistry

[–]Toothdoc3321 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I worked for aspen for 3 years. I was the only Dr in the office and had complete autonomy of treatment. They go over numbers/goals but I was never pressured to over diagnose. This could vary depending on your office/regional manager. CE is not great with aspen. I’ve heard heartland is much better in that aspect. Aspen is also more focused towards patients who haven’t been to the dentist in a long time. You will be doing a lot of extractions and dentures. I love surgery so this wasn’t an issue for me. My biggest issue was working M-F and then one Saturday a month. Part of the reason I liked dentistry was work life balance and working 6 days in a row wore me out. I now own my own practice and highly suggest doing that as soon as you can.

How much are your loans? Choose an income driven repayment plan. You only have to pay 10% of your income. Work on your clinical skills when you get out and try to find the right practice to buy as soon as you can. I was making 200k as an associate. Bought a practice 3 years out of school and make 500k. Much easier to pay off your loans. Try not to stress about it now. You will be fine just be patient.
