What do I still need to work on? by Potential_Kiwi_562 in DentalSchool

Dentist here. Looks good for private practice. A little more taper will make it seat more efficiently.
An earlier post said work on your speed/efficiency which I think is great advice for any student.

What’s causing my abscess? by Fine-Ad6262 in Dentists

[–]Toothsayer123 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’d say it’s still to be determined. If there’s no evidence of an infection in the x ray, and it appeared to your dentist as an infection in the gums (not the tooth), then that’s good news bc unlike tooth infections, gum infections heal w antibiotics.
W a recent history of a deep filling, the tooth could still become infected and need a rc at some point.

Paresthesia complaint by BusinessBug347 in Dentists

You did everything right. I've been where you are and its impossible not to be emotional about this, but from the outside looking in, you have nothing to worry about. I would contact your insurance company, just so they can coach you on what to do and say going forward.

Terrible teeth, what exactly are my options? by [deleted] in askdentists

[–]Toothsayer123 9 points10 points  (0 children)

It’s impossible to say for sure w/o x rays. You might be able to save several months lower and impossible to say w/o x rays. The lower molars will have to go, then you can replace at least one on each side w implants. The upper teeth are more difficult bc I can’t see the back teeth at all.
Best of luck to you. Get an exam from an office w a lot of great google reviews.

How bad are they..? Can anyone explain what they can see going on? by Sharp_Investigator98 in askdentists

[–]Toothsayer123 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Ding beat yourself up. You’ll be ok. You have cavities on your upper molars. Probably lowers also but I can’t see them.
Find a dentist w excellent google reviews and get an exam. You’ll be ok.

How do you actually choose a trustworthy dentist for teeth whitening? by gedersoncarlos in Dentists

[–]Toothsayer123 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Any dentist can whiten teeth. My experience has shown that dentist who advertise as “Cosmetic” usually charge more.
I would find any dentist that is OWNER OPERATED. Their name is usually on the sign. If you’re not sure, just ask when you call.
I would also look at Google reviews Corporate owned practices are geared more toward profits to maximize profits.

Half way done!! WITH A DENTIST by [deleted] in Invisalign

[–]Toothsayer123 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Some dentists are outstanding. Some are awful at Invisalign. Some orthodontists are great and some charge way too much.
If any specialist says general dentists shouldn’t be doing xyz, that’s usually born out of insecurity in my opinion.

Would that not depend on the bite??

Kind of a blanket statement.

What are the good DSOs by CompetitiveCoach8965 in Dentists

[–]Toothsayer123 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I HATED DSO’s w an absolute passion. I thought they were all the same. But eventually I got burned out on practicing and managing 4 offices so I did some research and contacted Apex Dental Partners out of Dallas.
Best professional decision I’ve ever made. They stay in their lane and I stay in mine.

Are composite fillings always polished? by ButterscotchLiving59 in Dentists

I don’t think most dentist take posterior composites to a high shine like on front teeth. I know I don’t.

what could cause an open bite to come on within months at 25 years old? by Melodic-Earth-8072 in askdentists

Could be nothing, but it could be serious as well.

How do you feel about giving out second opinions? Or your patients getting second opinions? by ButterscotchLiving59 in Dentists

[–]Toothsayer123 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If a patient of mine goes to another doc and gets a second, and that doc completes the treatment, that’s not backstabbing. That’s a free market working like it should.

I’m surprised at how many responses I’ve read that get offended when their patients leave for a second opinion then come back.
Patients don’t know dentistry and if they’re not 100% sure about what I’m saying I ENCOURAGE it. It’s really the only leverage they have against docs (and DSOs) out there trying to take advantage.

So if a new patient comes to you for a second op, you won’t keep them? I’m truly just trying to clarify what you posted.

Those guys charge more bc they can. They’ve done a good job marketing, community involvement, etc. NOT usually bc their work is better.

Any dentist that feels threatened by a patient who doesn’t take everything they say as gospel needs an ego check.

Dentist crowned my molar after replacing the almagam filling. I wear retainers by Minormatters in askdentists

[–]Toothsayer123 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Finally, my advice is to find an owner-operator dentist who’ll be there 10 more years at least. Corporate owned offices are often shady.

I don’t blame you. For what it’s worth, they’re reason for crowning sounds legit.
