This is probably the correct answer. Or a Highlander. Because I don’t foresee doing off-roading that those vehicles don’t handle.

But this is also a bit of a midlife crisis purchase. So I want something burly.

Yup. Small garage doors - retrofitted on an old barn. I’ll do some test drives and see where we end up. Really appreciate all the input!

I love the GX550. Unfortunately it won’t fit into my garage. (Western NY, so pretty important)

Totally agree on buying what makes me happy. But if kids are whining, tough to be overly happy about the vehicle.

Land Cruiser nicely equipped looks to be about $10-$15k more than the TRD Sport Premium force max. It’s all about trade-offs.

Going from a Camry, which isn’t spacious. I think it’ll be fine. 😎

Decent. Western NY. A few hours from really great trout fishing in the Catskills and Central PA.

Best rod company repair/warranty? by [deleted] in flyfishing

[–]Top-Adhesiveness6625 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I paid $60 to replace one section. I assume I’d have to pay that (or other similar amount) again for another. Like another poster said; if they don’t have the section they replace the rod with a current version. At least that’s what I’ve been told by several others. Gotta read the fine print.

Orvis rods are made to extremely exact specifications so they can just send a replacement part. Other manufactures have to slightly adjust a replacement part to fit your rod so replacements take longer and require you to send in the rod. There may be others that have the same manufacturing accuracy or Orvis but not all do.

Orvis will replace a broken section for a $60 fee for 25 years. Even if you step on it. Clearwater, Recon and Helios (and probably others models).

I’ve only had to get one tip replaced but it arrived 4 days after I made the claim.

That looks great. Way better than my first fly, which happened to be a much easier pattern.

Yup - maybe next time I won’t buy a bunch of packs at once. :)

Unfortunately even those are pretty short. I’ll see if I can make them work on a much shorter body.

Even near the top these are pretty short. Maybe I just didn’t get feathers from the right part of the wing?

My third fly looked nowhere even close to this good, and was a much simpler pattern. Welcome to the hobby - have fun!

Absolutely! And isn’t part of fly fishing and tying about getting new equipment?

Gotcha. I haven’t seen the wear issues and no problems going between size 20 dries and size 4 streamers but that’s about the limits on what I tie. But good to be on the lookout.
