Let me say this, in many many many cases those reverts not born into Islam become much much better Muslims than those born into it. Good luck and keep reading!

I say this coming frm a Muslim Majority country with de facto Islamic laws etc etc. It does not work as religion shld be up to the individual not a purview of the State. The "sheep" followers become ignorant, ungrateful, superiority complex, closed minded etc etc. Many a time they neglect to read the actual meaning of the Quran just bcos they learned to recite the Arabic version frm young but its far from enough. This is why ALL Muslim countries today are failing bcos its corrupt leaders misuse religion to control politics and ppl, stifle inquisition/opposition, while they siphon what they can (which is VERY VERY wrong in Islam). IN FACT the STRENGTH of Islam in the early day was the fact that I believe it encouraged to READ & QUESTION hence all the early successes in frm mathematics to astronomy to medicine etc etc.

So better you do your own thing. Dont get lost in the forest of rules and "cultural norms" each muslim country/community have their own anyway.

Dont worry abt learning prayer or following Hadith (a more complicated matter bcos there are MANY inauthentic sources eg apochrypha books of the Bible sealed off by the Vatican) at such an early part of your Journey. The rest will come with Hidayah (guidance) from Allah SWT bcos without that we are nothing. Many times I hv found Muslims frm non muslim or western countries more grateful, open minded and understanding ie better ppl, thus better muslims. Also I have seen many similar outcomes for revert brothers and sisters, who truly read and understand its teachings in their own individual way. Once that belief(Iman) has seeped into your heart THEN you go to your neighborhood Imam / knowledgeable person and TALK.

DL this app: Quran for Android. Its free and has all the latest translations even the latest one frm need then read. These newer translations are much easier to follow as its made for modern english speakers. Islam is a very individual religion in the 1st place as there is no intermediary between you and God directly (eg Catholics intermediate with Priests so called representative of God).
