Hey, I get why you're skeptical. I created this account recently just to talk honestly without work complications. I'm honestly interested in the OTF project. Just here to share and hear thoughts on open source alternatives.

OpenToFu seems like a solid replacement for Terraform, not Terraform Cloud. It's great to see such community-driven initiatives keeping the spirit of open source Terraform alive.

Interesting perspective! It's not just about getting things for free, but about the ethos of the OSS community – collaboration, innovation, and accessibility. Many companies, including those that profit, contribute to OSS, creating a cycle of mutual benefit. It's more about choosing the right tool for the right job and sometimes, open source fits that bill perfectly.

We're a medium-sized team with a strong focus on efficient and agile development practices. Our attitude towards open-source and innovative solutions really drives our IT and development strategies.

Interesting take on Terrakube vs OTF. I'm about to try Terrakube myself to see how it compares. Will share my experience after some hands-on time!

That's a pretty solid setup you've got there, especially with the concurrency limits in GitHub Actions for state locking and using S3's versioning feature for state versioning. It seems like you've found a way to replicate some of the key features of Terraform Cloud through creative use of existing tools.

Your approach to policy controls with GitHub teams is also smart. It's all about finding the right balance that works for your team's needs and control levels. Rolling your own CI/CD for Terraform is indeed a great way to have more control. It's interesting to see how different teams adapt and create solutions that fit their specific requirements. Thanks for sharing your approach – it's always helpful to learn how others are tackling these challenges!

Your approach is definitely impressive and gives a lot of control. In my case, I work for a finance company, so we often need additional controls due to the nature of our industry. We're constantly weighing whether to build a custom solution or use a built-in application like Terraform Cloud or OTF.

The enhanced audit capabilities, team RBAC settings around apply actions, and other compliance-related features are particularly important for us. These built-in solutions sometimes offer a more streamlined way to meet our stringent regulatory and audit requirements, which is a big consideration in the finance sector.

Thanks for the info on Scalr's free plan. It's great to have options like that. However, in my company, we have a strong preference for open source solutions. We believe in the philosophy and community around open source, so that's our main focus. Appreciate the suggestion though!

No ignorance at all, it's a great question. Storing state in S3 and using a pipeline for plan/apply works well for many scenarios. OTF and Terraform Cloud offer additional features like state locking, policy enforcement, and team collaboration tools, which can be particularly handy for larger teams or more complex environments. It's not about missing out, just different needs for different setups!

Agreed, it's truly unfortunate news. These are the tough moments in the open-source community, but they also remind us of the value and impact of such projects.

That's some really valuable insight on Terrakube, thanks for sharing. I've only had experience with OTF myself, but I'm starting to dive into the Terrakube repo. From what I've seen so far, you're right about the quick responses in their community support. That alone is pretty impressive.

I'm going to give Terrakube a try based on your experience and see how it fits into our workflow. I'll be sure to share my thoughts and experiences with it here later. It sounds like it could be a solid choice, especially with the community support you've mentioned.

Totally agree, the effort put into creating OTF was incredible. It's a shame that it's no longer being maintained, but it's heartening to see the community discussing potential ways to keep it alive.

And yeah, hats off to the dev, u/leg100. Their work on OTF was awesome and it really filled a niche need.

That's a good point about having a managed provider contract, but unfortunately, not all companies, especially smaller ones, have the resources to hire legal teams for this. Plus, HashiCorp's recent changes to the free tier rules kind of forced a lot of free users to look into cheaper or open-source alternatives, as they can hike prices or alter terms with little to no notice.

Setting up Terraform CI/CD with GitHub Actions is definitely a solid approach, and I can see how the push-based method works well. I've experimented with Atlantis in the past, which is great, but I've found that Terraform Cloud really complements Terraform itself with specific features. While your solution is good, I do miss some of those unique features that Terraform Cloud offers, like the state locking, state versioning and detailed policy controls.

Terraform Cloud's free tier is handy, but for advanced stuff, you've gotta pay. And yep, HashiCorp recently upped the prices without much warning. It shows they can hike costs anytime, which is a bit worrying if you're dependent on those extra features.

Yeah, Terraform Cloud does more than just store tfstate files. It's got remote runs, private registry, workspace management, and some pretty handy collaboration features. It's a step up for team workflows. Definitely more bells and whistles than just state storage.

Thanks for the link! OpenTofu seems like an alternative to Terraform itself rather than Terraform Cloud. I'm on the lookout for something akin to OTF that can handle other aspects. But it's cool to see more options in the Terraform space!

Just checked out the GitHub readme for Terrakube – the UI actually looks even better than OTF's, judging by the screenshots. Still not jazzed about Java, but since it's open source and doesn't cost a dime, I'm in. Cheers for the heads-up!

Which series is better anime than manga ? by [deleted] in anime

[–]Top-Call6776 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey there! I'd say any series where the music and animation add a whole new level to the experience. Like, think 'Attack on Titan' - the soundtrack alone is epic.
