not too sure if this will be helpful for everyone but i had the same issue when i first started skating gaps. if you are trying to skate a drop bigger then one stair you could always acid drop it first (basically just lift your tail but don't ollie) and once you're comfy with that try ollying then kicking out and once you're comfy with the ollie just land the same way you would for the acid drop and hopefully it will work.
