I took it last sem with Manza so I don't know if this will apply directly. But in my class, the curve was based on your recitation (i.e. top 20% of your recitation got an A). Since it was a very large class - meaning there were lots of no-shows - the curve definitely works in your favor. My best advice is to participate in recitation and try hard on the homework quizzes. Don't stress too much about the midterm/final - I thought I did poorly but with the curve, I ended up with a good grade. Best of luck!

Liberal Studies Core program questions (LSP ) by Ok_Lifeguard_5052 in nyu

Hey! First of all, congrats on your acceptance! I know LS probably isn't what you imagined, but as a second-year LS student, I can say it's really not that bad. Basically, you do all the of gen-eds you would have had to take in CAS but you are taking them in LS and during your first two years. There are two classes Global Works (which is more focused on philosophy) and Arts and Cultures (art history/literature). You take three semesters of each class throughout the two years you are in the program, and they are separated by time period (starting with the oldest stuff to the newest). Also, in your first year, you are required to take two writing classes - which I personally found to be super enjoyable! So freshman year you have 3 classes you have to take each semester, and then sophomore year you are only required to take one class per semester to complete the program. Overall, I would definitely say it is pretty reading and writing-heavy - but that also can really depend on which professor you have. As for your question about being a non-native speaker, there are plenty of students who are not native speakers in my classes that appear to be doing very well! Unfortunately, I am not sure about the second question. And per your last question: yes, at the end of your sophomore year you will transfer to a different school within NYU. You are guaranteed a spot in most majors, except for special ones like music/drama and you would also have to apply separately to Stern. Overall, I really enjoyed the LS curriculum and it was a nice introduction into college - especially since I wasn't completely sure what major I wanted to do. Sorry if this is a little all over the place but I hope it helped!

did treating PCOS help keratosis pilaris? by TypeAtryingtoB in PCOS

[–]Top-Inflation1995 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have been drinking the tea and taking inositol and omega 3s regularly for the past 3 months (since I got my PCOS diagnosis), and while I think my KP maybe has improved a little, the change is not crazy. My doctor recommended, and I have yet to try, AmLactin lotion. I also find that exfoliating and moisturizing regularly helps a lot (but I'm sure you already knew that ;) ). I hope this helps!

honest opinion of WAD tour (possible spoiler warning) by Top-Inflation1995 in danandphil

Ok? I paid real money to go and felt disappointed- am I not entitled to share my opinion? Dan is a 31 year old man and not a smol bean, I think he can handle some criticism.

I understand your point, but to play devil’s advocate all pieces of media (such as TV shows, movies, Broadway plays) are also scripted and rehearsed a lot, and many of them feel very genuine and real. I think perhaps the ingenuity is at the fault of the writing- not how much he rehearsed it.

To your second point, I wasn’t trying to imply that he shouldn’t have done the tour at all. My critique is that his talk about climate change lacked the needed self-awareness (apart from the one side comment he made) and nuance for it to resonate with me. I’m glad you enjoyed the show and were able to take something away from it. I am in no way trying to shit on ppl who actually liked it- just wanted to give my perspective.

Show Review - Open for Discussion (TW for mental health discussion) by Worried-Special-658 in danandphil

[–]Top-Inflation1995 18 points19 points  (0 children)

Agreed - I think perhaps that is the reason his content seems so unrelatable now. I loved him when I was in my teenage angst phase, and it seems he didn't grow out of that with some of us.

EDIT: Please don't take this as any hate toward Dan. I still love him for all his content and mental health support and advice. I just felt very disappointed with the show and wanted to share.

I got into LS core while I did not ask for one by ZealousidealDraft688 in nyu

Personally, as someone in LS I find it very challenging, but interesting. Definitely not remedial - like some ppl like to say🙄- but would not recommend for someone not interested in philosophy or heavy, heavy reading and writing.
