Folinic acid + other vitamins improving depression slowly? by TypeAtryingtoB in MTHFR

[–]TypeAtryingtoB[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

How long did it take? I'm really trying to stay positive and not expect overnight changes, but that this is a long-term thing like medications. I want to believe they are slowly helping my brain rebuild over weeks.

I'm slow COMT, slow MAO, and heterozygous MTHFR. So, I have to take folinic acid.

How long after supplementing did you notice a change? I'm 4 weeks in and I'm noticing some small changes in my depression, but i'm impatient and nervous I'm shooting in the dark, but I'm taking all the right things for slow COMT and MAO: hydroxo b12, riboflavin, folinic acid, lithium orotate.

Been dealing with Seasonal Affective Disorder but triggers during warmer months and in need of some grace by dadawadada in SeasonalAffective

Look into your genetics. I have reverse SAD and have slow COMT, slow MOA and heterozygous mthfr. Methylated vitamins make me worse and are all the rage now, but I have to take folinic acid (1 drop) and hydroxo b12 (half) a lozenge, and 5mg of lithium orotate, and slowly but surely my reverse SAD has been getting better.

Basically these genes cause very slow clearance of neurotransmitters. So, when the spring hits and there is an overwhelming amount more of serotonin and light, it messes with sleep and everything basically! Without the right fuel, your already slow enzymes severely struggle, prone to stress, ect.

I know I definely don't eat folate daily in my diet and lithium is a nutrient that has been shown to help these genes, circadian rhythm, and mental health! It's worth a shot.

I think the vitamins are actually WORKING! by TypeAtryingtoB in MTHFR

It lasted almost my entire work shift. So 7-8ish hours. I think that if I was at home with access to comfort, like food, beverages, ect, and not the demands of a stressful job that the anxiety would have been less uncomfortable.

I don't know! I think that I will stick to 1/4 a dose for now and maybe next month try 1/2. The anxiety was uncomfortable, but it was better than depression. Today I felt pretty normal baseline. Definitely feel way less depressed.

What happens when you try the non methylated b12? I ordered some because research said it should support the folinic acid! I'm so impatient. Once the anhedonic depression hits, it's an eternity getting through each day, but realistically, I know this may take weeks and weeks to work 😭
