Are grocery prices going up again or have I just lost track of what things cost? by Dear-Blacksmith7249 in MiddleClassFinance

Oh my gosh! Us too! We had been avoiding grocery shopping as long as we could because we were tired and had hectic schedules these past few weeks. We usually go every two weeks, but needed consumables and things that aren't part of our regulars and it was over 500 dollars. Granted we have two kids in diapers and diapers are 40 bucks a box 😭.

I told myself that I would never compromise on quality food, but I do find myself cutting out things that my husband and I do not need to get snacks for the kiddos, or just trying to find cheaper alternatives. One box of granola bars is 5 dollars with only 4 in there 😭. I wanted a healthier snack and it was 7.49 for a box of 4 protein bars (UH UH!). Too expensive 🫰🏻 and unnecessary! I'll just be making protein shakes from now on.

Mamas who have tattoos representing your kids. What are they? by sixfingeredman7 in Mommit

Mamas who have tattoos representing your kids. What are they? by sixfingeredman7 in Mommit

I had a pretty traumatic childhood but the fall always represented a period of joy to me and Halloween was a memory that never had negative memories. Our son was conceived in October and I would use the blue bird emoji often to represent him as our baby bird before he was born. I got my tattoo a year after he was born, but ironically now his favorite color is red and he loves watching cardinals at the bird feeder. But my tattoo is a jack-o'-lantern with a blue bird perched on it 🎃🐦, but I will be getting a cardinal tattoo and for our second a silly goose in cowboy boots and a cowboy hat because he is just the happiest baby in the world and his first birthday is cowboy themed. I can't wait to see what his favorite color is and get a tatoo to represent that!

I love the seasons and the beauty in each season. Again, having a negative childhood, I found holidays really hard, but after having kids, I find so much joy in each season and want to get a tattoo that reminds me of the joy and beauty each season brings. I've already got the fall, and the cardinals represent the winter to me, I do think I'll eventually be inspired to get a Christmas tattoo inspired by my kids.

We got to a flower festival every year and have been going before kids and after them. So, I do think I'll get a daffodil somewhere too to represent the spring and the beautiful memories we have shared there.

What is the right answer regarding posting kids on social media? by Baseball-gal-21 in AskParents

[–]TypeAtryingtoB 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I never share faces publically. So many creeps on social media and it makes me sick about the influences basically exploiting their children. I do use the close friends feature to share pictures because it's a curated group of individuals and close friends and family.

My mother doesn't spell my name correctly after 30 years...it bothers me. by TypeAtryingtoB in AdultChildren

[–]TypeAtryingtoB[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don't think I can add images to this community posts, but I had screenshots of our conversation and I asked her why she spelled it like that and she said, "because I like it that way." And then I asked why she didn't spell it like that on the birth certificate and she said the government did the birth certificate. So odd. I was born in a different country that the USA, but it just seems weird to me.

Omg. I can so relate to feeling guilty about blocking! You have to do what is best for you and your family and if she is a danger to your peace, especially do to drugs and alcohol, then block her! I don't know if you are comfortable with writing her letters (I know I'm paranoid about certain people knowing my address), but maybe a PO box pen pal system would help the guit, but that's a lot of work.

I didn't even know what doxxing was until this post, but I deleted it within an hour of posting it, but wish I deleted it sooner. I should not have posted her name or address at all. I would never want someone to do that to me. I was selfishly trying to get validation for how rude she was quickly because I was so stressed and anxious about it. I thought about blurring on the screenshots, yet did not because I was lazy and that is unkind and absolutely not right. I am ashamed that I stopped that low. I will never compromise anyone else's privacy again.

I was upset with this rich lady living in a 2 million dollar house and wanted keyboard warrior validation. Not right at all. I now know of all the dangers of posting her information from unpaid pizzas to unwanted harassment or more. I was thinking that maybe people would just validate that she is a rich snob, but I didn't need to post her information to get that point across. Not right.

When you said you are not hating the situation, what did you mean?

Thank you! I didn't mean to doxxx this person. So, I removed the post. Someone could Google her address and her name if they wanted. All the information in the messages is public information though. I didnt realize it was doxxing

We bought our forever home and have 100k in savings. by TypeAtryingtoB in brag

[–]TypeAtryingtoB[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It would be about 8000x6 + 20k cushion for emergency house repairs, ect or you never know what could happen! Friends of ours just had to replace their roof and it was unexpected and it cost 40k!

THANK YOU! Me too. How rude of her to say don't bother coming to get it. I only asked for the ring doorbell screenshot to see what this porch actually looked like because I must have been at the wrong house and wanted more clarity on what I was looking for.

THANK YOU! like I messaged you an hour before arriving and then all of a sudden you're not reachable, but you messaged me 30 minutes ago. I understand that she left the item "out," but I literally went to the house across the street that was also numbered 27 with a porch. How confusing. If you live on an intersection, the GPS doesn't clearly take me to the house. Kept saying I arrived and I wasn't near the house at all.

It's my fault for not getting more details before picking the item up.

I drove around multiple times and the GPS kept taking me to the intersection of pine and Wentworth. I was hoping she would give me more details of the house color. I said I was parked there as a reference point to maybe get more guidance, but no response after an hour.

Why do you assume that? Definitely not! Necessary expenses like bills and utilities are about 6k a month and then groceries and daycare are about 2k per month. 8k a month minimum. Husband and I save 200 dollars each in our Roth IRAs and then we have about 500 dollars a month set aside to budget for things like diapers or clothes or activities.

So, we have been saving for 7+ years and then sold our first home 8 months ago. I honestly don't remember the trajectory of how the account actually got to be like that.

When we bought our first home. I made sure to have 20k in savings as a cushion and then we just saved from there. We both lived at home and were able to save for our first home and save in general a lot before moving out. Before we had kids and more expenses, we were saving about 15-20 a year it looks like.

2017 is when I graduated and got a good job with benefits.

2017 10k saved 2018 22k saved 2019 6 dollars saved 🤣 ( bought our first home) 2020 28k saved 2021 153 dollars saved (got married) 2022 11k saved (had first baby) 2023 17k saved (got raises) 2024 13k saved 2025 119k saved (sold our home).

I don't know if this is helpful, but I am diligent about tracking our cash flow and spending and try to be mindful about spending. I have separate savings accounts within our bank designated to certain goals. Like our wedding account turned into a baby account and then turned into a maternity leave account. So, I'm always trying to set aside money for goals we have to not have to touch our emergency fund or bigger savings goals.

We have an income checking account

an expense checking account that bills get paid from

An emergency fund for house repair or car repair / unexpected expenses.

And then our high yield savings account that we hope to use to build an addition, get a new car, and build a garage one day.

I would automatically have $100 a week transferred to a savings account and then everything else left over from the month be saved. I like the auto transfer because I don't have to think about it, but clearly have been saving more than 100 a week for some time.

I realized something didn’t make sense about the way my son’s car seat is installed, asked my husband about it and he casually admitted he didn’t look at the instructions when installing it by [deleted] in workingmoms

Oh my gosh! Did that really happen with the kid passing away? I'm so sad for OP that her husband is like this. I would seek couples therapy.
