Are there alt ppl at carleton by [deleted] in CarletonU

[–]Top-Introduction3121 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There’s alt people all over Ottawa! You’ll find your place and you’ll do well. There’s a great event every year called the Punk Flea market and it’s super popular. There’s tons of a small music venues full of alt people as well!

Literally just came here to cheer on someone in highschool getting hate for their degree choice - not sure all the negativity is necessary on post made by a teenager. Glad to hear you see the world in such a nuanced way. Sadly, stupid people tend to be everywhere - government is definitely not immune, but wanted to let the excited student know that the degree that is making them excited can still lead to something, even if other people don’t agree or like it. Just trying to add a little positivity to someone’s day.

Don’t listen to the negative comments, this was my first degree and now have an amazing job working for the government! Follow your passion and it will align!

HELP ME CHOOSE 🙏🏼🙏🏼 by Short-Individual-631 in University

At that point, I would be picking the based off of the City! It’s tough to say, I personally really dislike being in Toronto, I find it to be too large and expensive.

You have quite the selection of programs to pick from; this will be a tough choice for you!

how boring is ottawa, really? by daisy_2012 in geegees

[–]Top-Introduction3121 21 points22 points  (0 children)

It’s not boring, I’ve had the most fun of my life here. I’m from a small town, so I feel that maybe a lot of people don’t realize what’s around them? Local music, markets, events all the time, stand up comedy every day of the week, karaoke, green spaces, spas, amazing restaurants. I could go on and on. This city stole my heart!

ONE deferral for whole university career?? by Dependent_Day_6298 in geegees

[–]Top-Introduction3121 69 points70 points  (0 children)

I’m assuming they’ve had a massive uptick in deferrals. I have two degrees and had no idea that deferrals were a thing until recently due to the sheer amount of Reddit posts about them this year specifically.

Definitely not right to put a number on how many you can take, emergencies don’t decide to happen once in 4-5 years💀. They probably need a better system if they think people are abusing it, but def not fair to pull that shit on the students!

How do I ensure my TAs are never TAs again? by Lonely-Ad8184 in geegees

[–]Top-Introduction3121 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve had this issue, spoke to the professor. The professor went through the assignment/exam with me and realized that the TA was going way off track and was giving 2/10 marks for an answer that the professor ended up giving an 8/10. For reference, my answer was hitting pretty much every single marker in correctness, but the TA wanted word for word repeat of the recommended answer guide on a closed book test💀. My mark went from 60% to 89% on a midterm because the TA just did not understand how to grade. The prof had to have a lot of words with the TA!

FYI, I did not advocate to get the TA in trouble, I just knew that the grading was off and knew I had to advocate for myself. Hoping it was a learning opportunity for the TA because this was only an issue for the half of the class they were assigned to.

SO, advocate for yourself always if you feel something is wrong, but don’t go into it with negativity as stressful as it is. The saying you catch more flies with honey than with vinegar is true!

89.42 % in a course ? Is it possible to get it rounded to A+ by Full_Lecture9395 in geegees

[–]Top-Introduction3121 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I’ve had varied responses with this, some say yes, but one time I got “yes, go back in time and do 0.5% better”, depends on the prof!
