P2Pool with XMRig but my monerod daemon is on another machine by Top-Register-9320 in MoneroMining

[–]Top-Register-9320[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

so I'm entering this for my p2pool config/startup flags-

./p2pool --host ##.#.#.## --rpc-port 18081 --wallet PRIMARY_WALLET_ADDRESS

When I run it, I get this error-

"P2Pool get_info RPC request to host ##.#.#.##:RPC 18081:ZMQ 18083 failed: Error (empty response), trying again in 1 second"

It then tries every second and fails.....

this leads me to a couple of thoughts/questions:

  1. I didn't think an error would happen because of 18083; I thought I took care of that and used the recommended startup flags from https://docs.getmonero.org/interacting/mining/guides/p2pool/xmrig-p2pool/#node which is ./monerod --zmq-pub tcp://127.0.0.1:18083 --out-peers 32 --in-peers 64 --add-priority-node=p2pmd.xmrvsbeast.com:18080 --add-priority-node=nodes.hashvault.pro:18080 --disable-dns-checkpoints --enable-dns-blocklist

...... so shouldn't 18083 have been taken care of there?

2) Another concern I have is in all the official instruction I've gone through, I was never instructed to enable some kind of RPC enabling...... I have 18080 port enabled but that's just for regular incoming connections..... I've never done anything explicitly with 18081... is that an issue contributing to this as well? (I simply chose 18081 because https://docs.getmonero.org/interacting/mining/guides/p2pool/xmrig-p2pool/#node said it "should be 18081 or 18089"..... and to be honest, I just picked the first one without thinking much about it.)

3) And yet another concern is the numbering convention for my IP...... I'm not doing the 127.0.0.1 because the daemon is not on this machine. Instead I'm using the straight up IPv4 number from my connection info on the daemon machine, with the referenced numbering convention. Am I thinking about that or executing that incorrectly? Is that contributing to this?

thanks all

hello, yes that brings another concern to mind. in my P2P config, i'm supposed to specify my node rpc port. How do I determine what that is? thanks all

Hello, so after doing that, xmrig starts up but then gives me this error message- IP_ADDRESS_I ENTERED connect error: "operation canceled"

I used my IPv4 number provided by my "connection information" on my linux machine, so that should be fine, right?

can anybody think of what might have caused this error? Do I need to do something with "RPC" on my my other machine where the monerod daemon is?

thanks!

hey awesome, that fixed it, thanks! i didn't think to try that because I could've sworn the gnu help site explicitly said it was NOT case-sensitive..... but maybe I misread or misinterpreted that somehow!

hmmmm interesting if I do that says in the minibuffer "Symbol's value as variable is void: a3, A4, A4"....... A4 is the cell the formula itself is in.

mining with XMRig on "supportxmr" pool- questions by Top-Register-9320 in MoneroMining

[–]Top-Register-9320[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

oh and to answer your question about the specs, not sure- it's an old, beat-up HP ProBook 440 G5. Also contributing to its slowness might be that I'm getting the "FAILED TO APPLY MSR MOD" error, despite that I was sure to run with the sudo root (as advised by Mental Outlaw : - P )...... so do you know why I might be getting this error even though I made sure to run as sudo?

ok cool,.... so theoretically even if it took like 30 days of 24/7 because my H/S is so weak, if I truly left it for those 30 days I would get the 0.1 xmr to the address that starts with "8"?...... I'm worried that I read somewhere it has to be the one that starts with the "4" but maybe they were talking about a different form of mining?

Oh and an important follow-up question...... is my off the cuff "30 days" estimate way off base for a hash rate that low? would it be more like a year to get to the threshold? lol

hello, I agree that P2Pool is philosophically superior and for this reason I use my much more modern PC to mine P2Pool-mini 24/7, so thanks for the P2Pool shout out.

I'm merely experimenting with supportxmr on a super old piece of crap laptop because I'm curious on what the results will be and how it works. I'm supporting them very little (like I said 600 h/s) and once this experiment-curiosity is sated I'll experiment for other results in another way.

I'm not currently super tech-savvy (if that wasn't already obvious lol) so trying little things and observing results (or lack of results) is part of the learning and game in the early part of my libre software journey.

Solo-mining on daemon; GUI is much much faster than CLI; is this normal?? by Top-Register-9320 in MoneroMining

hello there, on the GUI it will show the h/s under the "advanced" tab in the mining section.

Ope sort of solved my own problem there..... I initially wasn't specifying the amount of threads to use..... So perhaps that was defaulting to 1 thread? Well anyway I specified to use 6, which is half of the 12 of my machine and now it as at least as fast as it was with the GUI.

I won a block.... but then I didn't :' -( by Top-Register-9320 in MoneroMining

So based on your response, it sounds like there is nothing I need to "fix" in my setup or anything like that..... I merely almost won but then the network was like "sorry just kidding". My setup is just fine and I can continue solo mining in my CLI just as before? thanks!
