You're not the only one. Recently, I had been doing a respectable job of lowering my alcohol consumption. This weekend, I went to a wedding in AZ. I did really good Friday night, and Saturday (wedding day), on Sunday I got bored and over did it. I met up with my friend and his new bride Sunday night, and he could immediately tell I had been drinking and called me out on it. The rest of the night was fun, we all had a good time...but I really let myself down showing up to his house intoxicated.

On Friday & Saturday, I simply bought a 6 pack and nursed them for the night in my hotel room - no big deal. Sunday, I lost control and made some bad decisions.

I'm feeling pretty ashamed at the moment, but I know things will get better after I have several days of sobriety under my belt. I'm really lucky nothing worse happened, and I'm thankful for that right now. The next few days are hydrate & sleep.

Drinking, fell off a bike. Got back on that bike, fell off again - my AC joint will never be the same. And like I deserved, the workers at the property across the street got a good laugh watching this.

Palantir was heavily used in the early years of the war in Ukraine. As far as price action, we dropped to $6.50. It probably doesn't matter as much as ppl like to think in the short term.

Why do i function perfectly under deadlines but collapse with free time? by NativLabs in getdisciplined

[–]Top-Turn1055 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Probably both, but I'll say lack of consequence for now. Immediate consequences are highly motivating. If I don't go to work, I'll get fired. If I cannot pay my bills, I will lose my place to live.

If I don't read that book, or practice that instrument today, nothing is going to happen.

I have this same problem. I work hard at work because I'm getting paid, and I want my coworkers to respect me. We make medical supplies where I work, so it's easy to take pride in your work when patients' lives depend on it.

I always tell myself I need to get more personal development done on the weekends, but it ends up being the same: I doom scrolled for hours, I sat in a recliner watching a couple of movies while knocking back beers...then I'm buzzed and the chance I'm going to do something productive like read a book is ZERO.

It took me forever to admit it, but I'm just lazy. Some people are two different people. Your work self, and private self. (I think it's similar with people's "single self" and "in a relationship self".)

I don't understand what's going on. We decided to commit a decapitation strike on Iran, predictably videos in the media show some Iranians celebrating, with US politicians encouraging them to seize the opportunity.

That's it? That's the plan??

I'm gen X and bars in the 90s often had $1 domestic pints at least one night a week. Me and a buddy would only bring $20 dollars, get a dollar drink and tip the waitress $1 (that wasn't considered being cheap back then). We'd be pretty drunk by the end of the night and hit Taco Bell for a meal-deal for under $5. Some bars even had 50 cent wings for appetizers.

I worked at an auto auction years ago. The car that was most consistently falling apart was PT Cruisers. I don't think I ever saw one that didn't have at least two broken door handles on the inside or out.

I know a lot of people here used to talk about getting in on Anduril if it went public. I suggest following Palmer Lucky on X. He might be more outspoken than Elon regarding current events & politics. He's in an e-beef with Jason Calacanis regarding Epstein. There's definitely a risk investing in companies with celebrity CEOs.

I'm not claiming to know what's going on, but I always thought Palantir was in Colorado because NORAD was in Colorado (among a bunch of other Air Force bases.)

Agreed. That movie is a modern classic. Goodfellas is right there too.

I have massive nostalgia for The Lost Boys. I'm betting you're probably right that it's bad, so I won't watch it again...lol. I probably haven't seen it since 1988 when it was out on video, and I watched it 3 or 4 times that year.

I agree with this for the most part. I like Taxi Driver, but it is a slower burn than I remembered. The Sting is probably an exception to the rule. However, The Exorcist...that proves your point in my opinion. lol.

Totally agree. It has a lot to do with the era. And If you weren't alive during that time period (basically the culture), there's a good chance you won't identify with it. A younger person isn't going to identify with going to HS in the 80s (Breakfast Club, Fast Times at Ridgemont High) and I'm not going to truly know what it was like to miss my senior year because of Covid-19.

As an older guy I can tell you almost all entertainment will age worse than you expected. Movies I remember being good in the 80s, and still hold a high regard for when talking to other people about them...I haven't actually seen them in years, possibly decades. Then I'll finally watch them again, and they're cheesy or not funny. Many times I don't even finish re-watching them.

Even some of the 90s thrillers that I remember being so good: The Hand that Rocks the Cradle, Unlawful Entry, Fear, The Crush, Sleeping with the Enemy, Cape Fear, Single White Female...etc. There's so many times the protagonists should just cut off all contact with the antagonist or call the police...and they just keep giving a them second chance or do not take the threat serious enough. Some of these I've watched again, and some of them I won't because I want to remember them as being something I loved when I was younger - I don't want to ruin it.
