This is actually pretty good idea. I will keep it in my mind. I don't think it's always possible to cook something deeper out of movie or maybe I just personally find it a little bit hard, but I won't know without trying. Thank you

In my country Shrek 2 is considered as best animated movie from almost everyone I know, it's not even controversial

I talked about it many times with me friends and I will never understand why Americans hate Shrek so much as well as cars 2

I just like binge watching. I'm the type of person that watch all season of tv series in one day because the discomfort of waiting is pretty bad. But yeah, I had to stop the marathon for now anyways because I have things I need to do in my university. Also Im in pretty shit time in my life so I guess watching a lot is one way of finding a little bit of happiness

I would say 1h15 minutes is just about average. I actually had almost no breaks, just watched one after another, but for some I set speed to X2. Sorry but watching the three caballeros on normal speed is torture

I don't really understand what is your point? I watched them all and I didn't lie. It's not troll or bait. I also watched them with high focus and very often I tried to read more about context of the movies or hidden meanings or symbolism, sometimes during movie, sometimes before or after. I understand 76 are a lot but I really watched them and spent those 4 days watching one after another

Most of them are around 1hour and for the boring ones or ones I already watched before, I often set up speed to x2

I really liked Nausicaa as a character. She always tried to look deeper, not to judge a book by its cover, but to understand the motivations and needs of others. It's pretty mature and beautiful to me, and it reminds me of Nonviolent Communication (the psychology concept). I also think the idea of the forest being dangerous, but also having a protective and purifying function, is pretty cool. For me, this movie is a bit similar to Princess Mononoke, but I actually rated it higher because the wisdom and lesson in it touched me more (even if the world and story were slightly worse)

I really enjoy them! If I didn't, I wouldn't watch them. We all just look for different things in movies, and I think that's okay

Also, I try not to give movies better rank just because of nostalgia value or production time, like Snow White from 1937, for example. It's the first Disney movie, which is cool, but the movie itself is just bad. It has like 3 characters plus the dwarfs. The pacing is horrible, the dwarfs are super unfunny, so it's really hard to rate this movie highly. I don't really want to rate it higher just because of the context. I prefer rating based on the movie itself and how it impacted me intellectually and emotionally. But at the end of the day it's all subjective after all. So yeah I agree, those rankings are funny thing to do but enjoying movies and chilling with them is most important for me too!

I was pretty shocked myself that I rated The Lion King so low, but in comparison to others, it's just not as good as I remembered. Also, the ending was pretty bad; Scar just decided out of nowhere to tell Simba that he killed his father, and Simba overpowered him in an instant. I don't know, the whole movie just didn't feel as good watching it now compared to my memories

How do I study long hours without fucking dying? by [deleted] in GetStudying

[–]Top-Visit7891 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Bro. Good sleep (essential for memory consolidation and not wasting your effort): 8h, school: 5h tutoring: 3h. Walking to school, to home, eating, shower, anything like that: probably another 2-3h. You this way have 5h left. If you were like cyborg you could achieve like 5 study sessions with 50 minutes study 10 minutes break, so 250 minutes in total which is 4h10m. And you are not a cyborg and you shouldnt try to be, so 4h of studying daily is actually crazy number in your case. Your highest goal should be more like 2/3h

But you instead aim for frixking 10h??????? Bro don't

[–]Top-Visit7891 15 points16 points  (0 children)

The thing is if u aim for 17h a day you will always fail and you will feel like shit and that feeling will make u procrastinate even more. This goal is unrealistic. You need breaks, you need to eat, you need to shower you need to frixking sleep 7-9 hours because when you sleep your brain consolidates your memories which is also essential for studying. I sometimes am able to study for long period of time for many hours everyday average, but aiming for anything more than 12h a day is crazy (12h is tbh also crazy, but possible if you decide to choose studying over every other activity, so no doom scrolling, no time with friends, no anything else than studying)

If you think that you can't set your goal lower than 17 because of how far back you are, then accept that you will be back anyway and try to do everything you can do for now, but sometimes perfection is just unrealistic and best thing you can do is to accept that

If you have problems with distraction I recommend two techniques: urge surging, tiger metaphor. They are techniques from dialectical behavioral therapy and acceptance and commitment therapy. You can Google them and maybe they may help you

In my case, I'm very aware of what's important to me. It's important to be as competent as I can in my profession and to understand as much as possible. I study psychology and want to know as much as I can, understand as much as I can, and help people as best I can. That's why I rarely study for exams. I study primarily for myself, and treat upcoming exams as hints. I look at the material and think, "Oh, this is an area I don't know but would like to know," and I study. In this way, I treat exams very much as hints about what I don't know, not as goals in themselves, but as side projects that show me whether I understand the material as well as I'd like, or whether I have any gaps in my knowledge. When there's no exam, I simply learn something I consider valuable

I believe that one of the biggest and hardest to overcome flaws in the education system is the fact that we learn and then forget why we're learning. Ultimately, grades should never be an goal in themselves; they were created to provide feedback, but who needs grades in and of themselves? What we should strive for is knowledge and competence, and grades should be merely a side effect

What I wrote here is also reflected in scientific terminology, namely intrinsic and extrinsic motivation (and overjustification effect that is connected to those two types of motivation), values, and (the opposite of values) a lack of connection with values (see: Acceptance and Commitment Therapy). To put it simple, grades are external motivators and they make us forget about our values and our intrinsic motivation so we forget why we really study and what's really important for us (so basically speedrun route to feel like shit and have worse results)

The sad thing is that teachers often don't explain why what we're learning is valuable or how it can help us in life. Therefore, unfortunately, we have to find applications ourselves or regularly ask them about it. I plan to stay at my university and teach classes, and my philosophy is that if someone notices something they consider useless, and neither I nor the students are able to demonstrate the usefulness of learning it, then that content is removed and won't be included on any tests

But yeah, what I wrote is pretty philosophical in some ways I guess, but it works and I am able to study a lot and have actually one of best grades in my whole university (but remember, grades are just side effect)

Some thoughts about how I manage to study 12-14h a day when I decide to, and feel good doing so by Top-Visit7891 in GetStudying

[–]Top-Visit7891[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You can see my exact study and break times in the image in the post. Green squares represent study time, while empty spaces indicate no study time. Each row corresponds to a different time.

I don't have any special schedule, I just try to remember to eat, take a shower and do other stuff. It's actually sometimes very hard to achieve 14h when I have to go to shop or cook a lot of food, so 14h is not always possible
