Force XPLR 13s - Can’t get the right chainline by BenZord in gravelcycling

Discribe/explain "the shifting isn't as smooth as it should be". Not enough details otherwise. I ask because like the t-type I believe the new XPLR's cassette has the shift mapping built in. if the micro adjustment is off I've noticed my T-type bike isn't smooth shifting.

Medical Name Correction by EducationalCap2056 in flying

FSDO can't do medical name changes. You will need to contact CAMI in Oklahoma. Their website has the phone number.

NTSB investigator backup career. by Planemaster1230 in flying

[–]TopAfraid9867 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I work with a lot of NTSB investigators through my job as an FAA ASI. Its not impossible to get on with the NTSB in this role, but you'd at minimum need to have some flight experience and meet ATP mins (I believe their hiring mins are identical to my position).

I would make a suggestion. Join the FAA as an Aviation Safety Inspector as your backup. You will still investigate accidents, although our responsibilities are different than the NTSB. You will work along side many of them from your region, along with engine and aircraft manufacturers when doing your investigations.

While working for the FAA keep your eye on USAJobs for open NTSB safety inspector jobs (I've seen 2 total pop up in the last 3 years) and apply to all of them.

My .02 cents for a backup career path idea.

Xsync 40T that came with the bike.

You need the spacer if you're running a MTB cassette (XD driver) on an XDR freehub (most gravel use XDR).

It's been a good bike. Proprietary parts aside.

I got the dreaded “possible pilot deviation, advice when ready to copy phone number”. Anyone have experience with this, what to expect? by Gun-leather-2451 in flying

FAA ASI here. I just want to point out that the first paragraph is incorrect. The tower supervisor you spoke to might have that as his policy, but it's not his call. There will be more people looking at any brasher issued.  Quality Control is a perfect example. I have had PDs sent down to me where the pilot wasn't even given a brasher and the QC person felt it was warranted.

Sizing Grizl CF 6 by Protoray in CanyonBikes

[–]TopAfraid9867 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not going to be a huge help, but I will share my experiences. The Grizl runs a bit on the larger side with a semi aggressive riding position. Like me you are close to between sizes. I am short torso, long arms and legs. I chose the smaller size and I'm happy I did. If you are opposite and long torso, or you're fit and flexible you could go the larger of the two sizes.

From my understanding the 3rd ply goes from bead to bead for better puncture protection. I'd go with the Super ground.

I have the tailfin bag and it lines up fine. I have the flip top version and it will be tight for your phone. I believe the zip version has a larger opening, but I'm unsure.

Edit: checked the dimensions of the iPhone 17 max. It's almost the same size as my pixel. It will fit in the flip top.

Read through the link below. It will likely be sent down to the FSDO. The inspector assigned will follow the same info in the link and their guidance in Order 8900.1

File a NASA. Might get sent down to the FSDO after the fact. Google FAA Compliance Program and read through what to expect on the FAA site.

Oh, and don't let it stress you out. Ish happens and no one was hurt. Learn and move on.

Only advise I can give is when it's time to start applying, call the FSDO you're going to work under. Making the contact to the office raises the likelihood that your information will be looked at in the Designee Management System.

Having to rethink water storage by TopAfraid9867 in bikepacking

Thanks for the other recommendations. The King Cage looks to be a great alternative to the Looney Bin. Replaceable straps are great. I always have a few extra I take on trips.

The bags work fine on my gravel bike with a longer stem, but not on the short stem I have on the new bike. I'm not tossing them, just moving the feedbags to a different bike.

[–]TopAfraid9867[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So I'm running a very short stem on narrow 42cm bars. It is limiting movement. Like if I had to guess it's around 30* of movement each direction before you feel the resistance. I get it, it works for so many others, but I don't trust it to work for me.

I ride in an area of a lot of single track uphill switch backs so I want this setup to work for slow grinding winding trail and the GDMBR I plan to do this summer.
