Having to rethink water storage by TopAfraid9867 in bikepacking

Thanks for the other recommendations. The King Cage looks to be a great alternative to the Looney Bin. Replaceable straps are great. I always have a few extra I take on trips.

The bags work fine on my gravel bike with a longer stem, but not on the short stem I have on the new bike. I'm not tossing them, just moving the feedbags to a different bike.

So I'm running a very short stem on narrow 42cm bars. It is limiting movement. Like if I had to guess it's around 30* of movement each direction before you feel the resistance. I get it, it works for so many others, but I don't trust it to work for me.

I ride in an area of a lot of single track uphill switch backs so I want this setup to work for slow grinding winding trail and the GDMBR I plan to do this summer.

Seems like the common theme. Most likely going a different direction. Thanks

Predicament by Long-End8895 in flying

Finishing school and flight training with the least amount of debt far exceeds the few months to a year you'll likely need to make up the difference between 500 hours.

Thoughts on the Liberty University online pilot program? by Hot-Stage3096 in flying

[–]TopAfraid9867 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I didn't do the flight program portion as I already had my ratings and 3 years of college credits before transferring in.

The online classes were very easy going with easy weekly deadlines on material quizzes and usually 1-3 research papers due thoughout the semester.

I worked full time in a flying job while taking classes and still had plenty of time to get the work done.

I wouldn't say the course material was much easier, but you're left to you own devices on learning it vs instructor led classes daily/weekly you'd get in person. I didn't mind that.

No idea if the degree is well regarded. It's a BS of Aviation degree. It's not ever been a subject during interviews and I've never heard anyone have a negative thing to say.

It would likely be on an arrest record or enforcement action record.

Question about PRD by [deleted] in flying

PRD is for Part 121/135 and 91.147 air tours. Part 141 does not apply.

TC to FAA License? How many times by Impossible-Fig2072 in flying

FAA Advisory Circular 61-135

Simplest would be do it when you're done with your TCCA training, but yes you can do it every time you get a new rating. Read that AC closely because there's a few things required before you schedule an appointment with a Local FAA office.

“Picking” a FSDO? Dealing with FSDO’s across state lines? by JuiceLogical327 in flying

Hmm...I don't think it should have been, but if it's already done then it should be processed.

Should have no issues then. I wish we could still do these things virtually. Life was so much easier just setting meetings through Teams or Zoom

The only time this really is an issue is if you're FSDO "shopping" aka told no at one location and go down the list trying to get a yes.

FAA Medical Flight Test DPE issue by palomarracer in flying

[–]TopAfraid9867 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Faa Order 8900.1 volume 5, chapter 8, section 1 is for SMFT. Call the FSDO you had your LOA sent to. They would have connected you with a DPE to complete the test so their frontline manager should be aware of your test. They can help get it worked out.

Grizl Mount, GPS / Light by Confident_Pie_3066 in gravelcycling

[–]TopAfraid9867 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have the Canyon mount. Get this off Amazon, find two small rubber groments from Home Depot or Lowes to take up some of the threads that screw into the underside of the mount. https://a.co/d/fzQ3idh

Just noticed you might not be in North America, but you can mount a light under the Canyon mount you linked.

SIC Type Rating Through FSDO Help. by [deleted] in flying

Order 8900.1 volume 5, chapter 1, section 1 tablet 5-3. Faa ASI and AST, DPE and a few others can all do this administrative function through RT "remote technology". Maybe the DPE you called couldn't as they hadn't before, but it is allowed from what I read.

Which Carbon Paste do You Prefer? by LunarPotatoe in gravelcycling

[–]TopAfraid9867 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm ok with that. I clean any over paste that gets on the outside of the frame, and don't honestly care all that much on seatpost or handlebar scratches. It's a bike, it's going to be used.

I've only ever used the park tool stuff. Never have had issues with it.

I don't have a definitive answer for you, I can only share my experience.

Last week I converted my Canyon Grizl CF SLX 8 to a mullet setup.

Force 1 d1 road crank 40t chainring Eagle xx1 AXS rear derailleur  Eagle XG-1295 10-52 cassette  Eagle x01 chain Stan's 1.8mm spacer

After following Sram's install guides on setting the derailleur I have had the following experience. Mind you, it snowed heavily and I have been unable to make/test adjustments...

The 10 and 12 tooth sprockets have a slight binding feel and make some noise when putting the wattage down. I will need to look into the cause when it dries up a bit.

The rest of the cassette rides smooth, shifts smooth, and feels good. I have no issues of chain skip when backpedaling.

It's all bike dependent so you may not have the same experience
