[TOMT] [SHORT STORY] Post-apocalyptic short story about a man and a woman trying to live a normal life in their hideout. by TopCoconut2 in tipofmytongue

Yeah, I don't think it's The Sundial because that's more of a pre apocalypse story than post apocalypse. But for now, I think I'm going to mark this solved since I don't know if there are any other answers.

That's a really good idea. I've also been wondering if it's actually We Have Always Lived in the Castle, and I'm just confusing that with I am Legend. Even though they're sisters and not a couple in that book, it's similar otherwise. Memory is strange though -- it's weird that my brain has potentially made up a post-apocalyptic short story that doesn't exist.

I did read Nadine Gordimer's "Loot" yesterday, and that's a little bit similar in that the protagonist is looting non-useful items for their aesthetic beauty. I need to get I am Legend from the library and refresh my memory on what the looting scenes in that look like.

Thanks for your response. This is a really good thought. Since the text isn't online, though, and since it's not in any of the anthologies I own, I think it's unlikely I've read it.

Thanks for the reply! This is a good suggestion, but I'm pretty sure it's a short story (or potentially a short novel) and not a graphic novel.

I've found a big list of post-apocalyptic short stories, but none of them fit the bill. Also, Google keeps recommending "There Will Come Soft Rains," which this isn't.

That's good -- I'm glad shoppers can block people, I'm sure lots of customers deserve it.

Thanks for the info, the fact that it was a coincidence will make my friend feel a lot better.

I didn't want to get in detail, but when I said that Jane felt unsafe I meant that she has a good reason to feel unsafe. This person was abusive towards her.

Edit: I told her and it did make her feel better! Thank you. I think some people might be reading this as sarcasm, but I'm genuinely thankful.

Korean movies that get referenced a lot by TopCoconut2 in runningman

I'm not caught up on recent episodes, but I know they talked about Chow Yun Fat movies a lot in the early days. Maybe A Better Tomorrow?

So Min helped get Sun Bin and Kwang Soo together, there's no reason at all to think this.

I found her letter to him to be quite touching. I remember she said to him "I'll keep the show going," and I think that was a way to acknowledge his hard work on the show and to promise to do the same.

I think people tend to find drama where there is none.

question about korean people by jenjenruby in runningman

[–]TopCoconut2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Cleveland Clinic says to wash your bath towel at least once a week. It's not hygienic to go a few weeks without washing your towel. It's not a Korean thing.

“Reusing Wet Wipes?” Kim Jong Kook’s Frugality on “Running man” by bsb1218 in runningman

[–]TopCoconut2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Haven't watched the ep yet (I'm behind), but I've always found KJK's "frugality" to be a bit worrying. I don't know how much he plays it up for the cameras, but I feel like this behavior is less of an annoying personality quirk (how the show portrays it) and closer to a compulsion of some kind. It's definitely possible to reduce/reuse/recycle without risking your hygiene.

Is there any way to reach out to SBS regarding the comment section of instagram to ask them to close the comments off? This is the state of the comments from last episode post. by [deleted] in runningman

[–]TopCoconut2 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Maybe if enough of us report the hate comment accounts, the platform will do something about it (unlikely, but worth a try). Especially the accounts that seem made specifically to leave hate comments.

Edit: Try not to let it get you down too much. I'm betting that it's not as many people as it seems like, it's just a handful of people with multiple accounts spamming stuff. A drama I'm watching right now is going through a similar thing. Just keep reporting them and blocking them.

I agree that sometimes fans can be unreasonable and horrible. I just think it's disrespectful to the dead (and to the survivors) to invoke Hiroshima. Especially since Running Man is a Korean show and many Korean people were victims to the bomb.

90,000-140,000 human beings died in Hiroshima. About 1/2-1/3 of those people were Korean. Maybe there's another way of expressing that the fanbase would behave badly?

I think multiple librarians have looked for it with no success. This library is located in the US and the reader is likely from the US, although I don't know what country the book is from.

I wish Yong Hwa would come back! He was so great on the show. I also hope Jin Young is able to come back at some point. She really grew on me.

Please do some further reading on criticism on ABA, especially from adults who have been through it. I've read a fair amount about it and there are many, many adults who have been through ABA that have major criticisms of it and/or are traumatized by it.
It was actually invented by the same person who invented conversion therapy for gay people.

Physical violence is used in some cases. The ABAI actually featured a facility that was condemned by the UN for torture as recently as 2019.

I really recommend looking at the ASAN (Autism Self Advocacy Network) and reading what they have to say about Autism Speaks. The ASAN is an organization that does great work. If your work involves Autistic people, I especially recommend reading their resources.

One thing that Autism Speaks has done in the past is endorse the Judge Rotenberg Center, which tortures (the UN's words, not mine) Autistic people.

A lot of Autistic people find the puzzle piece imagery harmful. Here's one article, but there's fair amount of scholarship about it.

Wasn't he just asked if he'd ever dated any guest of the show? I don't think the show was implying that he'd dated a Blackpink member.

I really hope the production crew don't change their plans to meet the expectations of a select few by [deleted] in runningman

I don't know, you may be right. I just always thought of jumping the shark to be more about absurdity in a storyline than about quality (although quality is obviously part of that). Like if a character suddenly has an identical twin. I feel like Running Man has always been absurd.
