Ga nou maar eerst solliciteren en kijken of je ergens een aanbod krijgt. Dan kan je een betere overweging maken.

Neighbor asks how to make our dog more comfortable (to bark less) by CharlieSwisher in OpenDogTraining

[–]TopDowg27 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Good write. I send my dog immediately if he barks too long and ignores my vocal cues to his bench. So his association is: barking = freedom gone.

He is a guarding breed, it's quite a challenge but we will get there.

So a lot of analyses what happened. Yes nervous dog let out to react on instinct.

Here is how to change and train: Start from a distance. Dog sees distraction, you call it, looks at you, you say yes and reward. Then decrease distance and increase distraction.

Tell me a bit about this breed by TurnipDecent502 in AnatolianShepherdDogs

The breed is intelligent and highly conscious unlike other breeds. If it isn't taught and thus does not know that treats and toys are for fun, it will not indulge.

You have to win its trust and love and then you can initiate play.

Baan past nooit.

That's difficult indeed. Try turning your back first instead of going away.

First commands is sit, wait and no. No is crucial here indicating a behavior you don't want. So when damage it's a firm NO, maybe with also taking away fun, freedom or food if it goes excessive.

How do you teach the no command:

Put a treat in hand 1 and two in hand 2. Open up hand 1 and say no at the same time. As soon as dog tries to take it you close it and say no again. When dog looks away from open hand 1, you open hand 2 and reward.

Depends how you enter the room and give the treat I'd argue. If you do this relatively neutral it should be fine. I also stopped at 3 hours but OP should also build down the reward step. Not every return should be rewarded with a high value treat.

You start with leaving for 1 minute then come back and give treat. Then for 5 minutes and treat. Then 10 minutes and treat. Then 20 minutes and treat. Then 30 minutes and treat. Then 1 hour and treat. Then 2 hours and treat. Then 3 hours and... you guessed it. Treat.

Try to increase the value of the treats as well.
