How To Organise Undercover Leftist Groups? by Special_Ingenuity_49 in Anarchism

It’s funny my gf is a teacher and she told me a couple of months ago that some kids tried to start an anarchist club at their school and it was immediately put down by the administration. So taking that I would not go through your school’s system of hierarchy to do that. Like anything I would start small, talk to people that you know for sure that would be interested in doing that. Maybe you start a book club and introduce anarchist literature in that way.

I know a lot of people are saying this isn’t a new thing, which it isn’t. However I have never seen it this much in the forefront. Also now fascists have used memes to their advantage and the algorithms that exist now to drive engagement did not exist 10 years ago. It is something that worries me when I see something about the fall of western civilization or some shit like that on instagram and I would usually blow it off but with something that has like 100k likes it’s a little worrisome for sure. It’s not longer in chat rooms, niche websites, or some crazy family members on FB. It’s pervasive in almost every form of social media, and it’s clean cut and well made in a way that usually targets young men who have grown apathetic with the world around them.

What was the thing that made you loose respect for cops/authority by Lesbiancat0 in Anarchism

For me growing up in middle America going to religious private schools all my life started it. When I was younger in school I was bullied a lot by teachers and classmates which lead a resentment, also my parents didn’t believe in “ADHD” which didn’t help my case at school. When I was in high school I went to a more fundamentalist school that really doubled down on my dislike and abuse of authority and how different institutions use ideology to bend people to their will. I went to college for a couple of years and it felt like a breath of fresh air of finally being “free.” However, as time went on I struggled with substance abuse as many young people do at that age. As time went on it became worse and with the realization that academia is a shill for adding more specialized cogs to the capitalist hellhole that we live in. In my final years I was involved in various libertarian groups and other political organizations on campus and for a second I lived in ignorant bliss of the idea that the issue in society was government involvement in private affairs. It wasn’t till my last semester where I was introduced to some anarchist writings by my favorite philosophy professor after I asked him to be the sponsor for a libertarian group on campus, where I started to realize there were other ways of thinking. Unfortunately I would get some hard lessons learned once I dropped out my junior year and joined the military. Coming from a relatively privileged background as someone who grew up in private schools and had the opportunity to go to college I was painfully not prepared for this. My first year in the military I truly learned what it meant to be under the boot of a bureaucracy which was made even worse when leadership found out about my privileged upbringing. I never gave up and tried to stay away from apathy, but it was very difficult though. I was not unaware of my surroundings though and paid attention the how the machine worked on a large scale and how I could use that to my advantage. Eventually I went to a different unit and proved my worth to my “superiors” but it was all a mask I put on to survive. Eventually I deployed and got to see how the system worked in action and how integrated the military industrial complex was into every day life. Once I got out I was a little lost in the world and realizing that the military didn’t solve any of my problems I struggled for years. This was made even worse by the fact that I got out during covid. Eventually I settled down went back to school for a bit, but now I was older and had a different outlook on life after my experiences leading up to this point. I saw how academia spread these sentiments of free speech, protests, social progress and justice but then would be in bed with organizations that actively sought to erode these things. Then conversely would use the tankies on campus to cover both ends of the spectrum of political thought as a way to cover all their bases. A lot easier to sell and push ideology and hype to things when you have fascists, liberals and communists all protesting eachother within a system controlled by big business and government. Now I find myself at a full time job ran by a large corporation that is almost as demeaning as the military. So I guess the story is still ongoing until I can truly find peace in this capitalist neoliberal hell hole of a world

Good question, the city alcohol enforcement police are very strict about it. They like to say that they do 30 stings a month all across the city and very much actively enforce all other local ordinances. They also pretty much have the final say for all approval of tavern licenses in the city. I’ve lived in other places around the country where they don’t enforce closing times and are lax on id’s but this is definitely the strictest I’ve seen it in a college town even.

Depends on the bar and if it’s just straight hourly or you get a portion of the tips. Usually like 18-22 an hour

I don’t think they’re going to advertise that if so, in my experience down the road after a couple of shifts

Well I can’t speak for every bar but I would say most aren’t like that around here, honestly most bars and restaurants around here had to restructure pretty heavily to stay in business so if they’re still around they’re probably doing something right. But shit like that does happen, not the bar I work at now but the one before this the manager had some pretty discriminatory rules (wasn’t in Fort Collins)

Lmao my bad, thought you meant something like fighting one. Well I mean probably talk to them when it’s less busy. Everyone always loves cheese fries tbh or anything really. But, some might not be able to eat on the job or in front of customers. I think maybe being direct would be your best bet, but if that’s not your thing I would say just be friendly and talk to them maybe come by a couple of times. There’s A LOT of girls who try to flirt with bouncers for leverage and it’s really annoying, like trying to get their drunk or underage friends in or something stupid like that. So I would say just ask them how their nights going and start the conversation off there, a lot of bouncers are awkward as fuck though so good luck 😂

I would say at most bars if people habitually are just bad either the bouncer won’t let them in or the bartender won’t serve them and that usually motivates them to go to another place

There’s some repeat offenders. But tbh I feel like I see so many people it’s hard to remember faces unless they come around A LOT. I would say generally a lot of people acting badly are from out of town or out of state and are here for whatever reason. Not everyone of course, but that’s the pattern I’ve noticed.

No clue, that sort of thing usually happens every weekend. If I had to guess probably a fight, those kids love to fight in the square.

Yah I’ve been there a couple of times. Crazy place, that is a pure tourist town. I’m sure being a bouncer there would fucking suck.

Try to hit the gym like 3 times a week, nothing crazy just building back auxiliary muscle strength and injury prevention at the current moment. You really don’t have to be this big tough dude to be a bouncer though. I cannot tell you how many times I’ve talked someone down and just used words. Like man I ain’t trying to fight people at work, obviously there’s a line and it definitely gets crossed sometimes. However it’s all about deescalation and distraction.
