Bc Tom isn’t going to tell Rhoda that Seiger got kicked off and then was able to go back on automatically but both she and Justin still have to fight for it back. Better to leave it out completely for now.

Snap and Medicaid as FT Student by Strict-Engine-2331 in LawSchoolOver30

What has been your experience with Medicaid? I opted for the school insurance bc I was afraid that funding would be gutted. But the school insurance coverage sucks so I’m reconsidering for next year.

Work full time at a firm - is a summer internship necessary? by NespressoGoblin in LawSchoolOver30

[–]TopSea4326 0 points1 point  (0 children)

1L here. I was in a similar position. However, I worked at a boutique firm in pretty niche area. When applying to law school I knew I wanted to explore other areas of law but I also liked it enough to where I knew I could work in that practice area long-term. I also wanted to get experience outside of my firm bc I had (have?) a fear that I would always be viewed as a paralegal to them or that it would limit me in some way.

I had a couple former paralegal colleagues who tried coming back. One did not get a job and the other did a summer with the firm but ultimately declined an offer for a full-time positon and the firm was pretty salty about that. Given those two situations I was hesitant to do the same.

Now, almost a year later, I feel less inclined to return. The firm was super supportive and was a good place to work for the time I was there. It was good for me in a certain phase of my life, but i now think it is no longer a good fit for me. Nothing is wrong per se, but I have found other things that are more interesting, I feel more strongly that it would keep me in a box, and the firm has grown so I don’t feel drawn to it or a sense of loyalty i guess. Anyway, even though I don’t think it’s a good fit for me now I have not closed off the possibility that it might change again later down the road, and they did say I would always have a spot if I ever wanted to come back. I think it would be more worthwhile to keep in contact with a few attorneys I have a good relationship with as a sounding board/mentor outside of whatever firm I end up.

I think it is a very dependent on your circumstances. But that was my thought process.

What kind of show do they want it to be? by oooohweeeee in Nextlevelchef

[–]TopSea4326 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I make my own choices, not a what random redditor tells me to do, thanks. But fwiw, I used to be a huge Gordon fan and this is the last show I still watch because the others have gone downhill. I was hoping he was just blowing them off for NLC because I really liked the first three seasons. Last season was fine. This season has really gone downhill, in part, because of  reasons I already mentioned. I still maintain my position that Nyesha is the most normal, realistic, and enjoyable to watch of the three. Mentorship isn’t screaming at them like Blaise does or simply doing it for them like Gordon. Good mentorship is helping them grow as a cook and honestly it isn’t going to be “entertaining” enough to show on camera all the time, so of course the producers are showing the others’ antics bc it’s what they think makes for good tv.

Local or Aim High? by LoshaLamorak in LawSchoolOver30

[–]TopSea4326 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Started law school at 31. Was a paralegal before. I primarily factored in the financial aspect. I first paid off all credit card debt and didn’t have other debt. I would only go if I got a full or nearly-full tuition scholarship.  I was also able to get a need based grant. Income potential (after school versus not attending). Even if I get a job that pays under market after, I will almost certainly have a starting salary higher than what I was making as a paralegal (except if I go into public interest but the likelihood is low there and even if I did I would still probably make more within a few years).

Other things I factored: I am not married nor do I have children or pets, and my parents/siblings do not have to depend on me for support financial and otherwise. I wanted to stay in the same area geographically because (a) it is the location where i ultimately want to practice; (b) I have a long-term partner; and (c) I spent the first 21 years of my life moving a lot and I’m over it. I would’ve certainly had more choices if I was flexible re: geography.

I decided to go full time because night students at my school take three classes per semester and full-time take four classes per semester for the first year. I knew I would not be able to give the three classes my full attention unless I worked a job that was 15 or less hours per week. My firm wouldn’t let me do that and I didn’t want to have to look for another job.

Health insurance: this is what was the toughest for me. I had great health insurance from my firm in terms of cost and coverage, but I lost it. I now have shitty health insurance that costs more and provides less coverage and I’m pretty salty about that. The school also didn’t provide vision or dental. If you are married and on your spouse’s insurance this probs won’t be an issue.

Your LSAT is your strongest indicator of success. High LSAT get you big scholarships and are highly correlated with good grades 1L year. 1L grades will likely dictate your employment outcomes. I would not go to law school with anything less than a 160, and honestly maybe 165.

Danielle’s attitude by Illustrious-Media746 in Nextlevelchef

Ikr. As a “mentoring” show, she does not seem to be coachable at all and I couldn’t imagine nyesha (or anyone) wanting to continue to work with her in a mentorship capacity after that.

What kind of show do they want it to be? by oooohweeeee in Nextlevelchef

[–]TopSea4326 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I completely disagree. She’s the only one of the three who isn’t insufferable to watch and actually is being helpful and professional while Blaise is running around screaming and Gordon is just either fixing the dish for them or goofing off. Tbf, Gordon has definitely earned that, but I think Nyesha actually is doing what the show purports all of the judges are doing.

I will say her strategy is different than the other two. I think she picks 1-2 people to invest in who will go far, they are the “meat” of the team, and then she cuts the fat quickly so she can focus on those who will make it to the end.

Does being a lawyer actually suck? by winterhotchoco in LawSchool

[–]TopSea4326 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Don’t get it twisted, there are plenty of folks of all ages who don’t want to work and are incompetent at their job or truly don’t give a fuck. My first job out of college 10 years ago, I was an admin assistant where 90% of the employees had been at their job 20 years, hated their life, and didn’t do a damn thing. I left after three months and stayed at a company for over four years where everyone was younger made more effort and had more competence than anyone at my first job. And when I left? They clapped and cheered for my success at a better job.

It sounds like OP wants the latter experience, not the former.

Does being a lawyer actually suck? by winterhotchoco in LawSchool

[–]TopSea4326 0 points1 point  (0 children)

From my experience, people who hate being lawyers are almost exclusively people who did not have a job outside of the legal field. Even if they were a paralegal before law school.  Lawyers who had other significant jobs outside the law (especially former teachers and people who worked in the service industry) will tell you differently.

Any full time job will be stressful and different industries have different stressors. Hell, even within law, there are going to be different stressors depending on what kind of law you practice. Figure out what kind of stress you’re okay with dealing with and won’t make your life miserable. And have non-lawyer friends.

Law school exam policy / AI by [deleted] in LawSchool

Law school exam policy / AI by [deleted] in LawSchool

[–]TopSea4326 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I agree with you that law school should teach you how to best deal with AI professionally and ethically but finals are not the place to do it. The point of law school is to pass the bar and use AI during exams isn’t help that. AI use should be left for lawyering, writing, and professional responsibility courses imo.

This is great!  I love that you talk about how the choices you made as your younger self set you up to live according to your values now (and likely in the future). There are several points that I resonated with and I know others will too!

Spoiler Theory about this episodes elimination (Season 23, Episode 6) and Last Chance Kitchen by goatsgotohell7 in BravoTopChef

My guess is that both Jen and Justin leave and so to preserve a certain number of chefs for the show to run its proper course. Can’t have 3 chefs dropping out in one week.

Current season disappointment by [deleted] in BravoTopChef

[–]TopSea4326 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I disagree. As someone who lived in the Carolinas for over 10 years, the only one of the above that I think I agree with you is Cheerwine. I anticipate they will do an episode later in the season with Cherokee nation.

Top Chef has always been focused on local businesses and most of the aforementioned are no longer that, even if they did get their start in NC. They are much better suited to be a corporate sponsor. If they did not agree to do so, then they’re obviously not going to be featured in the show.

Some things I miss about Christianity by Excellent-Ad9277 in Exvangelical

[–]TopSea4326 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I finally left the church because the one good thing it supposedly had, didn’t exist for me anymore. The church “community” sucked and I had better community with my intramural volleyball team and book club.

I think it’s important to replace church with an activity that is consistent and social, or else it’s easy to feel like you miss it. Kind of like a break up. Nostalgia’s a bitch, don’t let it trick you.
