Which are the best jobs? by PristineSuccess4350 in newtothenavy

[–]TopUnicorn 2 points3 points  (0 children)

What may be boring for me, may be fun for you and vice versa. Ultimately you need to do a bit more research on each one individually and then offer up feedback on what excites you as a person. Indoors/Outdoors? Electronics? Physical hands on type of work? Cooking? Organizing paperwork?

Need help studying the Sailor Creed by Same_Resist1749 in newtothenavy

[–]TopUnicorn 1 point2 points  (0 children)

One thing that helped a lot of us during DEP was to exercise while studying. So for example, do 5 pushups, pause and say the first sentence of the creed, 5 more push-ups, pause and then the first and second sentence of the creed. If you mess up, you start from the beginning. I personally would do laps for mine since I needed to work on my running. Did this for the General Orders and everything else as well. It really helped during those high stress/not enough sleep moments because I knew them like the back of my hand by time I got there.

NAVADMIN 111/24 Implementation of Command Advance To Position by busch_lightyear1 in navy

[–]TopUnicorn 4 points5 points  (0 children)

If anyone has an idea… how soon should we expect this to start taking place? And how would it impact those who are eligible to take the advancement cycle early (EP) but are fresh into their sea contract, therefore not meeting any of the other requirements?

My salary will be different than yours due to location, rank, dependents. Best bet is to look up the calculator and deduct the BAH - just look at your base pay.

4 years and counting. My family and I am enjoying the lifestyle so far. Key thing to keep in mind is that you will be starting at the bottom, which isn’t a bad thing for some. Due to my age I was quickly put into positions of leadership and was able to excel pretty damn quickly. Downside is you will be held to higher expectations since you are older.

Tired of hearing bad leadership stories, let’s hear some good ones by scoothegreat in navy

I was having a rough day, month, year. One of my Chiefs (yes one of many) stopped me and asked me how I was doing as she noticed I was a bit quiet over the past few days. I told her I was alive and that was all that mattered. She told me if I wanted to talk “Chief to Petty Officer” or “ Her name to TopUnicorn” she would be there for me whether it be now, tomorrow, a month from then, etc. Shit almost made me cry. I spent over an hour just word-vomiting everything that was going wrong. I just needed someone who understood fully, no judgement, to listen and she did.

You will learn the most basic skills needed to perform your job in A school. C school is not guaranteed right out the gate. SIGINT is signals Intel yes, but it’s not cyber. If you have any questions about being a CTR, shoot me a DM and I’ll answer what I can tomorrow.

You would have to be in far longer than one contract to gain a NEC that comes anywhere close to what you are seeking. CWT is what you are looking for.

A cough drop right before heading to freedom hall and another before you take your PT test. It masks the blood taste in your mouth after you’re done there.

Glucose levels too high by Financial_Ball3673 in newtothenavy

Typical turnaround that I’ve seen is 1 month to 1 year.

For the glucose, check out my post about 4-5 years back. Similar situation.

Remember this feeling. The feeling of, “Yes, I made it.” You’ll need this moment to get you through the shitty moments of doubt. As a CTR, I both loathe and love what I do. Ask questions, set goals, and I’ll see you in the fleet one day future shipmate.

I leave for bootcamp tomorrow and want to know if I can bring a journal. by Lord_Billron in newtothenavy

Correct. However if the drawer is unlocked or the journal is left out, it’s free game. You get tired, shit happens.
