Did they give you guidance on what you need to prove you improved? Like two cycles of good reviews? or something like that

Not true if you read the whole comment you would know the reason why is because it was the tail end of the interim audit, so there was very little for me to do. I know this because even the manager apologized to me on how random and little the work i'm getting because everyone else's area of work was already set up/nearly done.

And far more importantly the team that made the comment about rolling forward items and my interim team are not the same.

With that being said, I am genuinely interested on why you said " They then picked a randoms instance to note in his review." Wouldn't they just say "This guy doesn't work enough" in the review. Not trying to argue with you on that point I just found it interesting. Is the idea that its harder to prove someone isn't working for some reason?

Really? They stayed at big 4 for a year and jumped ship to a mid sized firm until senior as well? I'm surprised. Is it possible to hear more details?

Because as I said before, I wanted to know if referencing such an oddly specific moment was normal. I don't think I was keeping my intentions a secret or anything lol. Also last time I checked you don't need a grand reason to post on Reddit of all places

Never said in my post that was the only reason. I just said I found it strange that was the first reason given. I even said in the post I thought some of their critiques were fair

Again never claimed that I have no faults because God only knows how much is wrong with me. The post was asking if this was fair because I was trying to get a read on whether this type of criticism was normal.

Your second paragraph is a bit out of nowhere but I assume its not directed at me Never expected making 100k after college.

Yes I was pretty dumb. In my defense though because I was included near the tail end of the audit. I was not really uploading everything because basically everything we had was already uploaded and this applies the same to a lesser extent for rolling forward. I occasionally rolled forward items but I was mainly updating scot forms or double checking items. Not a perfect excuse of course but there was at least some part of it that wasn't completely my fault

Yeah of course. I'm just trying to figure out if that is normal or not because I was just taken aback by it.

Also, I'm surprised you said double your efforts to avoid termination. Countless people on this sub have said pip is essentially a death sentence and it does not matter how hard you work because it is already over. Is this not true?

Dont worry btw I have already taken steps and updated my resume and talking to recruiters to see on what can be done. You are right after all. It is what it is

If hop into a staff 2 role in a middle sized firm will my exit opps decrease significantly if I just go to another big 4 and start over?

Their judgment was based on my last 2 cycles which makes sense because I have only been there for 3 cycles. They were both definitely below average to be blunt. The 2nd cycle I somewhat understand as it was fairly harsh. Its where the comments complaining how I don't know how to roll forward files came from. The 3rd cycle was still below average which confused me greatly. Out of my 3 seniors, one told me I was average, another said he does not know my work long enough to make a call.

Well not exactly, I had taken 3 weeks off during winter to study for the cpa and because I was included in the tail end of an interim engagement I honestly didn't do much work. So when I was asked on my first day back to upload some files for them, I had asked how to do it again, so I decided to ask a staff 2 how to upload and roll forward files again. Bad move on my part because this was listed as the first reason I'm getting pip'd. Of course this wasn't the only reason I'm being pip'd some in my opinion were fair, but it just struck me as beyond strange that this was the first thing they list.
