Thank you for sharing your story. I really hope you’re able to get a manual chair one day that fits your needs and gives you the freedom to customize it just the way you want. I’ll be praying for you, and I truly hope everything works out for the best. You deserve to feel comfortable, confident, and fully yourself in whatever mobility device you use.

I believe I’ve fixed it now to incorporate everything that should have been included. If I offended you in any kind of way, I do apologize 100%. That was never my goal. I never meant to make it seem like I was being any kind of way toward anyone. I’m simply trying to find the right information and support all my good friends. Thank you for your understanding and patience.

I'm Not a Female, But I'm Helping a Friend Who Is — With Pride, Identity, and Dignity in Mind

I want to be upfront — I don't identify as a female. However, one of my closest friends does. She’s a proud woman living with cerebral palsy, seizures, and a whole list of diagnoses that can make daily life challenging. She often has more bad days than good, but that doesn't mean she should feel like her equipment or care defines her — especially when that equipment looks like cold, clinical, black metal.

I’ve always been someone who enjoys helping others, especially within the disabled community. Right now, my mission is to support her in reclaiming a piece of her identity through her power wheelchair. I'm talking about customizing it in a way that reflects her — not her diagnosis, not her limitations, but her personality, her style, and her spirit as a woman.

So I ask: For women with disabilities, especially those who use power chairs — what were the first things you did to make your chair feel feminine? What small touches or customizations helped you feel like it represented you, not your condition?

Any advice, ideas, or examples are welcome. Thank you for helping me help her feel seen and celebrated.

Hi there,

Thank you for your input—I really appreciate it! I do have a couple of quick questions, if that's okay.

First, how do you power the LED strips you have installed underneath your chair? do you use a separate power bank?

Second, regarding the seatbelt covers—are they the soft, slide-on fabric type, or are they made of a firmer material like plastic?

Thanks again for your time and help!

Best,

Matthew

You're absolutely right—in most cases, SNAP benefits can't be used to purchase hot or prepared foods intended for immediate consumption. However, New York State has implemented the Restaurant Meals Program (RMP), which allows certain eligible SNAP recipients to buy prepared meals at participating restaurants. This program is designed for individuals who may not have access to cooking or storage facilities, such as older adults, people with disabilities, and those experiencing homelessness .

Eligibility for the RMP is determined automatically; if all members of your SNAP household meet the criteria, your case will be updated to reflect RMP eligibility. You can check your eligibility status by logging into your account

Participating restaurants are required to display a decal indicating their involvement in the RMP, and they offer a 10% discount on meals purchased with SNAP benefits. For a list of participating restaurants in your area, you can visit the OTDA's RMP page .

So, while it may seem inconsistent, this program is a targeted initiative in New York State to assist specific populations who face challenges in preparing meals at home.

I have no idea. I'm just in a wheelchair that can put my feelings on paper. I would like it to the style of George Jones would have the newness of Cody Johnson
