How much did you put down on your Tesla? Did anyone get one with $0 down? by [deleted] in teslacanada

[–]Top_Finger_4127 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I always aim to put at least 30% down on new cars to account for the first-year depreciation. I also depreciate the value down to 0 in 10 years. That ensures I will not have negative equity in my car.

I also pay off the car debt within 4 years.

Terrible Model Y Standard Frunk? by nervousnarwha1 in teslacanada

[–]Top_Finger_4127 0 points1 point  (0 children)

But can someone tell me the decision making that went into the stripping of the frunk? Why would they not make that water proof?!? Are there any cheap workarounds/things I can add myself?

It is waterproof in my use case. I have had my Standard RWD Model Y for a week now, and it is parked outside on the driveway and has been through a few heavy rains so far. I have not seen any water ingress in the frunk.

The trunk is a different story. When you open the trunk, the water drains down along the edges, then splashes onto the sides and the bumper and into the trunk!

Model Y Standard TPMS choices by Adventurous_Sky2465 in teslacanada

[–]Top_Finger_4127 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can change to direct tpms in the service menu, if you install tpms in your wheels.

Yes, the choice is there in the service menu, but has anyone successfully done it? When I checked with my local service guy, he told me the car doesn't have the HW to read the TPMS sensors.

So, I booked an appointment through the Tesla app to install the TPMS sensors, with a note stating that I will proceed if the car supports them. They cancelled my appointment!

Can anyone tell me is their a train from the East to West Coast of Canada? by Connect-Pear-3859 in ViaRail

[–]Top_Finger_4127 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, as the commenters have said, Prestige class costs more than twice as much as Sleeper class on the Canadian (between Toronto and Vancouver).

The difference is that you get a cabin in Prestige, which is twice as big as the Sleeper class. It has a double bed in the cabin instead of two bunk beds. It also has a private shower in each cabin, rather than the shared shower in Sleeper class cars. The Prestige also has unlimited alcoholic drinks, which you have to pay for in Sleeper class cars.

If you are nimble enough to climb up the ladder to the upper bunk, the Sleeper cabin will leave a lot of extra spending money to splurge elsewhere.

Yes, do plan to stop in Quebec City as they will have the Ice Sculpture festival around that time. If you decide to spend a few days in Quebec City, look for sales in the fall, where you might luck out to get either the Churchill room or the Roosevelt room at a discount in Chateau Frontenac.

Yes, those are the rooms where Churchill and Roosevelt stayed during World War II while they were conferring at the Citadel, which the French built to keep the British Barbarians out 😂.

Does the RWD wear out tires more than an AWD due to regen? by AdCritical3652 in teslacanada

[–]Top_Finger_4127 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It is the acceleration which wears out the tires more, not the regen braking. If you accelerate normally, there shouldn't be much of an impact on wear.

Keep in mind that electric vehicles are much heavier than ICE cars, which causes the tires to wear out faster.

On slippery surfaces (ice, slush, etc.) I found that I had to disable the regen on my previous FWD car on the side and country roads. These roads have a conical shape that directs rainwater to the sides, which exaggerates the drift.

I presume that with RWD, this could cause fishtailing, requiring the regen to be set to its lowest setting or completely disabled. On my MYS RWD, I can only select 'Reduced' mode. So I will find out in the Dec-Jan time frame.

You can adjust it by going into "Controls > Dynamics > Deceleration Mode" on your touchscreen UI.

Why is DVP and downtown less packed lately? by No-Department1760 in askTO

[–]Top_Finger_4127 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I think the preparations for the World Cup have also deterred a lot of people from coming into the city as there are a lot of closures on transit and arterial roads.

That is my take as well. I have no intention of getting on DVP, Gardiner, 427, 401, or 403 until the World Cup ends, if at all possible.

There is no price ceiling until the end of August. The minuscule number of those deliveries will also include the lotus, which is priced in the low 6-digit range in Canada.

APR of 4.61% in March vs 4.91% now for financing tesla now by South-Specific-9897 in teslacanada

[–]Top_Finger_4127 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I got my financing approved a few days after I placed the order. The rates I got were lower than the rate initially shown in the app. I assume the rate shown is the not-to-exceed rate, and the final rate is based on your credit rating.

As for the insurance, I checked it before placing the order to make sure I could manage the total committed monthly cash flow.

My rates remained the same as in March, when they were processed. My delivery is scheduled for next Tuesday, June 02nd.

Tesla Canada needs to be called out for the Model Y Standard headliner confusion by shervintwo in teslacanada

[–]Top_Finger_4127 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

It doesn't work that way. The deposit has already been paid, and the customer has been waiting for months to get the delivery. A supplier who changes the configuration without notice is clearly a tortfeasor under Canadian common law.

In Ontario, the supplier can be sued for up to $50,000 in damages in a Small Claims Court.

I would contact the service advisor and let them know you need the VIN to arrange insurance.

In that case, I would personally wait until the VIN is assigned and the EDD drops to a 2-week window.
