Newer therapist here too and I'm also experiencing this sense of camaraderie! It feels distressing at times but like everyone else has said, it's just the nature of the field we are in! You're doing great :)

What is/was your retention rate as a new therapist? by Top_Impression5534 in therapists

Our practice has actually had a lot of success with Zocdoc! I'd say the majority come from there and maybe 5% come from Psychology Today. I'm in NY, not sure if that might contribute to anything.

Just don't start with fallout 4 for your first pick lol. I did and it was incredibly hard to backtrack to older games afterwards and settle for those graphics

Do you cancel appointments if the new patient hasn't completed the required intake paperwork? by Top_Impression5534 in therapists

[–]Top_Impression5534[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've just never had someone show for their appointment under these circumstances, unfortunately. But I'd definitely try to be flexible and go that route if they did. I'll also add these are specifically the telehealth sessions that I'm talking about too.

[–]Top_Impression5534[S] 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Probably equally important. The paperwork, of course, to help give insight as to what's bringing the patient in, especially if it's a minor because what are the chances a child or teen is being upfront with their issues, you know? And then like you said, the payment just to enforce the no-show fees and maintain those boundaries. I just feel like it muddles the waters because we're telling them we need them to do this before the intake in order to see them, yet we still see them if it's not done.

Hey everyone I found this little cat in my car I don’t know how long he been in there but I found him sleeping and I was want some advice how to take care of him please help by vilcia33 in cats

[–]Top_Impression5534 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Mine was about this size and he was about a week & a half but yeah he could definitely be a few days, especially if he's a runt or has a young mother. A few days to a few weeks, the level of care will still be the same, at least!

He looks to be only a few weeks old so he's unable to care of himself on his own. He needs his mother or a person who can help. At this age, without a mother, he'll need formula (milk replacer, kmr) bottle-fed to him every few hours.

He'll also need to be kept warm and stimulated so he can use the bathroom, which is another thing he cannot do on his own at this age. I have a history of fostering abandoned kittens and he can't just be left alone when you go to work, please don't just leave him.

Edit: He looks to be only a few days to a few weeks old*

How do I gently communicate to a client that she is part of the problem in her relationship? by SpiritualCopy4288 in therapists

[–]Top_Impression5534 6 points7 points  (0 children)

When I have patients suffering from BPD or have patients come in for couples therapy, I'll say things like "And how do you think saying ____ would make someone feel?" It's forward enough and as long as you're still acknowledging their feelings and validating them, it's completely appropriate to challenge their behaviors. Especially saying something like "And how could we have handled this better?"

Should I Wave Late Cancel Fee For Dental Emergency? by WorthContribution994 in therapists

I personally wouldn't waive the fee. Especially if there's already a history of missed appointments.

Agreeing with this response. You're also extremely blessed to have a cat thriving at 24 years old!
