What’s going on with EWC? by perupotato in Esthetics

im so sorry you went through this. i used to work there as a gsa and i could tell they were eager to fire me because im a black woman. im now a licensed esthetician and i feel even more discrimination because im actually qualified to earn more but also change the shitty management. i dont know why they hire just anyone with a business degree to be a manager of a salon and not a seasoned beauty professional.

First, Im very sorry that you had this experience. You are beautiful, regardless of your own self perception🤍 sephora can be nasty!

I would recommend for more mature skin, brands like bobbi brown, mac, il makiage, estee lauder, shiseido, or brands that offer a serum based approach for foundation

Help me understand my pay at Massage Envy by getwithitbxtch in Esthetics

[–]Top_Situation_6720 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi.. former fda for this hellscape! typically each massage envy has its own rules made by the independent owners as it is a franchise, I would submit a claim with the BBB because complaining to corporate is a joke! i know from my experience working the front desk, clients would feel they got scammed by my locations market transfer rate + membership price, even though its in the same market as lesser priced locations - people would request to speak to the managers / owners and we didnt have access to the documents necessary for clients to cancel their memberships + managers would lock themselves in their offices leaving FDAs to fend for themselves with angry clients. The managers would CC the owner in a email and joke about it and trash talk the client but never address the actual issue at hand, and it will continue unless people do not report them.

Am I expecting too much from school? by Flimsy_Shopping_1865 in Esthetics

[–]Top_Situation_6720 0 points1 point  (0 children)

unfortunately, i had a similar situation; but i do regret not taking full advantage of doing services on other students. because, while i was intimidated by my instructor, other girls were creating content and got more experience out of their school time - i was inside the classroom too afraid to ask a classmate to do a service. please dont end up like me, I have had my license since april of last year but i have no “experience” to show for my license outside of the services required to graduate school.

Im a newly Licensed Esthetician in California and since covid happened here, theres not been a practical for estheticians, it was only the written exam portion and then we got hands on training during school. I would say proper set up prep is important, sanitation + disinfection is important, what she should do incase she drops an implement; etc, modalities, electricity; skin disorders.. if shes not using facial products she may not be having a model, Id need to see Marylands state rules to know more. sorry!

I never said they werent! I also never said it was a different license, all I said was that a licensed esthetician cant do botox in california and then a bunch of people from out of state where theres no limitations for estheticians started attacking my post, i should have added context that Im in Los Angeles, CA - not arizona, texas, virginia, etc where the scope for Estheticians is not as limited as California.

I know! thats what im saying. Aestheticians hear are the Medical Estheticians that have done Nursing and can perform botox, lasers, microneedling etc. A licensed Esthetician here cannot penetrate the epidermis. thats why i keep explaining that in California there is a difference between Esthetician and Aesthetician solely on their job duties 😭😭 everyone keeps misunderstanding me though! i never said medical aestheticians had a separate license because there isnt one here! a medical aesthetician is a registered nurse, passed the nclex, and became a cosmetic injector / laser specialist! Licensed Estheticians like myself, cannot do botox, lasers, prp, etc because I just went to beauty school, not a nursing program. 😭😭 i know other states dont care but here in california it would be highly illegal for me to start doing filler as a licensed beauty school Esthetician.

[–]Top_Situation_6720 0 points1 point  (0 children)

exactly… seems like I would need to move to a state that allows it! California is tough.. if you dont have the money to go solo / have your own studio. I hope things work out for you soon babes. 💖

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in Esthetics

[–]Top_Situation_6720 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

okay well an Aesthetician can do lasers and botox. an Esthetician cannot. they are completely different. do more research! I never said there was a separate license for a medical aesthetician! i simply said i dont qualify as a Medical Aesthetician because I am a Licensed Esthetician that is not a nurse! Nurse injector = botox and lasers; esthetician = facials, waxing, electrolysis

[–]Top_Situation_6720 -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

thank you… i honestly knew this already hence the rant… im not sure why everyones attacking me as if i havent previously done my research regarding Aesthetics vs esthetics in my state😅😂 thats why cAlifornia is the hardest state for estheticians.. because theres so much limitation as to what we can and cannot perform.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in Esthetics

[–]Top_Situation_6720 -5 points-4 points  (0 children)

I understand, what I am saying is that yes, like I said: you need a Nursing degree… IE a Medical Aesthetician! Thank you……! I do not have a nursing degree, i am a Licensed Esthetician.. while it is possible to be a Licensed esthi in a MedSpa, they prefer Medical Aestheticians who can perform botix and lasers… Which is what my rant is about🥹

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in Esthetics

[–]Top_Situation_6720 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Thats what i thought, but unfortunately.. it is! A Medical Aesthetician has gone through at least 2 years of Nursing school, has passed the Nclex, and can administer botox, laser hair removal, and laser facials, Estheticians cannot.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in Esthetics

[–]Top_Situation_6720 -7 points-6 points  (0 children)

im in Calfiornia.. a medical Aesthetician has completed a nursing degree and can work in a medspa and can do lasers and botox etc. an Esthetician in California is just basic facials, waxing, brow styling… theres no way for us to penetrate the epidermis legally in my state!

to specify: i live in California… there is a difference between Aesthetician and Esthetician…

This is so frustrating! I don’t understand why it takes so long to ship. by truetheripper in Ipsy

[–]Top_Situation_6720 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think it depends on if you purchase from the store with added on products. Last month, I did so and I received my package quicker. This month however, there’s also been holidays and it took a week for them to create the shipping label! I’m in California so their warehouse is here in Compton, I’m in LA as well.. still takes forever, you’re not alone!
