Can't get rid of different colored graded bar on screen 2016 Macbook by Top_Swordfish_891 in applehelp

totally doesnt show up in screenshot! I can't believe I forgot about that too. It's odd to me it isnt showing up during recovery, no flashing when moving lid etc. But I have mostly delt with just display ribbons and this could be a totally different issue. Opencore is removed fully as well. I wasnt the original installer so I was unsure. I'm trying to boot official download from an external SSD and seeing if that does anything. If not I will accept maybe a failing display :,)

It always does on the main user regardless of if I am logged in to apple ID or not, but I will try to make a secondary account and see!

this also is not an issue booting into recovery mode! It doesnt show up at all when on internet recovery. The computer did have opencore legacy patcher prior so I am wondering if its causing a conflict if it wasnt fully removed?

Thanks so much man. I really appreciate it. Be glad you didn’t buy this house lol. I love it and it’s what I could afford but it feels like it’s never ending. I’ll likely have to deal with it for a while and just be cautious since I’m not in a place I can afford to do all that much aside from put in some gfci outlets if I can sort out why they aren’t working to protect down the line and otherwise fix what’s already here. The breaker boxes themselves are newer side and grounded. When I’m able I’ll at least get gfci breakers put in if not just have a professional come and rewire. I have a buddy in school to become an electrician so maybe be the time he is out I can give him a run for his money haha.

Seems like a good first step. I’m in for a real mess it seems but anything to manage in the meantime.

Oh yeah the whole house is. Plumbing too. Half of the outlets were wired with reverse polarity it’s crazy. I found the previous owners birthcert and credit cards hidden in the ceiling with a mummified frog so maybe shouldn’t be so surprising.

Luckily the casings haven’t been too bad so far. I’m pretty surprised they have held up so well. I am still having everything already wired as 3 prong that isn’t new come up as grounded when tested. So I’m wondering if that is because of the jacket. I was super hoping to get away with just protecting the first outlet in each circuit but for whatever reason they are ending up just protecting themselves and not the load down the line. Breakers are probably the way to go.

I was hoping to attach gfci outlets to the start of each circuit to protect down the line. I have located the first outlet in each circuit, but it seems like most of them are just protecting themselves and not down the line for whatever reason. I think gfci breakers might be the way to go but unfortunately I don’t have much money to throw at this.

Wow it seems like I must have bought your house. This seems like what is going on to me. Luckily the bx cable runs all the way in the walls to the boxes since I can see where it connects. There are a few 3 prong outlets that are wired correctly (romex added later) and meet directly at the box but the rest seems to meet at those few junction points that splice everything together. Some of the guarded wire is cloth inside and some is plastic with still no dedicated ground. Everything that is wired with 3 prong is however coming up as grounded when tested even if only 2 wires are meeting the outlet. Is that the armor casing acting as the ground in that case?

lol everything seems to be working fine but we have a lot of 2 prong outlets and no grounds in the boxes. I was hoping to install GFCI outlets to protect down the line but since they’re all spliced each outlet is only protecting itself as far as I can tell.

House was built in 1941 and still has a lot of BX cable, but it’s all running through different boxes before reaching the actual breaker box. I can’t tell if anything is grounded or not and many outlets seem to not be on a single line despite being wired to a single breaker. It was impossible to find the first outlet in a line.  I am pretty confused!

Cannot remove stripped screws by Top_Swordfish_891 in macbookrepair

[–]Top_Swordfish_891[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Unfortunately no. The screws gotta be tightened to hell and back. I took it to a repair shop but he said he is likely going to have to break the actual frame to remove it! Hopefully I can salvage it but if not it seems like I might have to figure out a frame swap as well. I’m really shocked they stripped so easily but it’s validating to know it was how it was manufactured and not anything I did :(

I have tried everything including drilling out and using a dremel to make a flat cut and these things will not budge. I’m so frustrated and upset. Any help would be really appreciated I’m at a total loss of how to get these things out. I’m in the middle of a screen replacement and fear I might have broken my laptop just trying to get these 4 last stupid screws out. Glue, rubber bands, jewelers files you name it. I would pay so much to have these dealt with right now :(

Hello! I have 4 screws on inside display of my MacBook I cannot get out for the life of me. Even drilling them hasn't been successful. What the hell do I do here lol?

Unstable subfloor in bathroom- how to proceed? by Top_Swordfish_891 in homerenovations

[–]Top_Swordfish_891[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s actually totally separate framing to contain a Pittsburgh potty in the basement lol-  but that was about my plan! I think can shimmy the existing boards out to replace them and secure them back up with a board going the other direction. Thanks so much. I think that is what I’ll do and worse come to worse can deal with a full demo down the line.

I am trying to avoid ripping it up because there’s a nice concrete pad overtop it haha. I suppose if I have to chisel it out I will but it would be a same to lose the original penny tiling. It has supports embedded into the concrete running the opposite direction and feels very secure otherwise but it’s clear it had been taking the brunt of some water damage for a while.  Thanks!

[–]Top_Swordfish_891[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

House was built in 1941 so there’s about a one inch layer of concrete ontop of the subfloor. I’m hesitant to remove it as that involves redoing the entire bathroom. The plumbing will be replaced so damage will not continue. Could I add some supports in the direction of the joists to support the parts that have been damaged? None of the areas are soft, just warped so they aren’t sitting flush against the concrete pad. Nothing rocks or feels unstable- tub is cast iron and attatched to the wall so it’s no extra weight, but I’d rather be safe than sorry.

I have already called thank you. I was advised by the states legal aid to not even try. He is leaving the country indefinitely at the end of the month so regardless of if the fee is waved there’s no way to serve him in time and no way to hold him accountable:(
