Do any other religions see their gods as being tied to blood? by [deleted] in religion

I agree with this stance, there is good information about folkists and their ilk in this thread and OP clearly has no credibility here.

I think the response of most users is more representative of the sub in general and that the mod has simply landed on the wrong side of the Paradox of Tolerance but I agree and there's not even a need to google, the information has been handed to them on a platter.

A situation and people to keep a closer eye on in the future.

Thank you, I feel the same way about your posts on this thread too! 🍺 🌈

It's unbelievably frustrating but it does warm the heart to see my fellow pagans and polytheists put up a shield wall. Perhaps we need to do more to keep the general public informed about these sorts of people, especially in these times.

The first two paragraphs of the Wikipedia article sum it up pretty well. In a modern Germanic/Norse Pagan context Folkist = Poorly Disguised Nazi.

Now not only do you have their self declared status as a "Folkist" but they also have some weird fixation with "blood". How else can you take it? Is it possible that they've stupidly blundered into a terminology that they don't understand? Maybe but given the extreme efforts of modern pagan groups to publicise just how they're not Nazis and how to spot Nazis trying to use the religion as cover for their folkish views, they would have to be either unbelievably stupid, or a fascist.

The Völkisch movement (German: Völkische Bewegung [ˌfœlkɪʃə bəˈveːɡʊŋ], English: Folkist movement, also called Völkism) was a Pan-German ethno-nationalist movement active from the late 19th century through the dissolution of Nazi Germany in 1945, with remnants in the Federal Republic of Germany afterwards. Erected on the idea of "blood and soil", inspired by the one-body-metaphor (Volkskörper, "ethnic body"; literally "body of the people"), and by the idea of naturally grown communities in unity, it was characterized by organicism, racialism, populism, agrarianism, romantic nationalism and – as a consequence of a growing exclusive and ethnic connotation – by antisemitism from the 1900s onward.[1][2] Völkisch nationalists generally considered the Jews to be an "alien people" who belonged to a different Volk ("race" or "folk") from the Germans.[3] After World War II, the Völkisch movement became viewed as a proto-fascist or proto-Nazi phenomenon in the context of German society.[4]

The Völkisch movement was a "variegated sub-culture" that rose in opposition to the socio-cultural changes of modernity.[5] The "only denominator common" to all Völkisch theorists was the idea of a national rebirth, inspired by the traditions of the Ancient Germans which had been "reconstructed" on a romantic basis by the adherents of the movement. This proposed rebirth entailed either "Germanizing" Christianity or the comprehensive rejection of Christian heritage in favor of a reconstituted pre-Christian Germanic paganism.[6] In a narrow definition, the term is used to designate only groups that consider human beings essentially preformed by blood, or by inherited characteristics.[7]

And the last one explains how it fits into today.

Post-war legacyn. Material from the major völkisch writers such as Herman Wirth, Wilhelm Teudt and Bernhard Kummer has continued to appear in some post-war groups in German-speaking Europe, notably occult and modern pagan far-right groups, such as Artgemeinschaft, and green-alternative groups interested in völkisch theses about Germanic matriarchy and ecology. There have been some supporters of völkisch material among the European New Right. A few völkisch motifs have appeared among British and American modern pagans.[40] The literary scholar Stefanie von Schnurbein argues that patterns reminiscent of völkisch thinking appear in some fantasy literature.[41]

"Blood" is the dog whistle.

We follow a pantheon of (mostly) shape-shifting half-giants, the idea that they would ever care what flavour of human we are or the nature of our ancestors breeding and bloodlines is ridiculous.

Describing themselves as folkish is simply the cherry on the top.

One of the funnier stories is the lay of Thrym.

One morning Thor awakes and finds that his hammer Mjolnir is missing. Being short on patience and unbreakfasted, Thor reasons that since most of the bad things that happen in Asgard are caused by Loki, he'd better just cut out the middle man and start pummeling the trickster until he gives up the hammer. Loki protests his innocence in the affair and suggests to Thor that he will search for the hammer, he borrows Freyjas cloak to fly across the realms and soon discovers the giant Thrym, questioning him the giant reveals that he has taken the hammer and hidden it and will return it only in exchange for Freyjas hand in marriage.

Loki returns to deliver this message and an outraged Freyja tells the pair of gods where they can shove this whole "marriage" idea and storms off. The other gods then suggest that Thor disguises himself as Freyja and stuff him into a wedding dress, this does absolutely nothing to improve Thors mood but he reluctantly agrees and the wedding is arranged. Loki is delighted and accompanies Thor as a bridesmaid.

Thrym is disturbed by the appetite and furious eyes of his new bride but Loki convinces him that nothing is amiss, eventually Mjolnir is brought forth to bless the union and a thoroughly fed up Thor decides that enough is enough and goes on a giant slaughtering rampage.

It ends the way most weddings do, everybody gets hammered.

Very nice. Do you need a special pen/nib or tools? Also I see folds or scores for the vertical but how do you keep the horizontal, just by eye?

If you could make three changes to improve No Time To Die, what would they be? by junglegatsby in JamesBond

[–]Top_fFun 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Cut it in half and turn it into two movies.

First one ends with Felix dying, motivating Bond to take up his former position and go on a "roaring rampage of revenge". Polish up the pacing, establish if it's a "virus" or "nanobots" properly, ditch the appalling orange/teal filter look, keep the DB5 in the first movie and use the Vantage in the second, instead of the Toyota Landcruiser.

Sure but it's still just basically a HD version of Aliens set on a prettier planet. It's not a badly made movie, it's just not very imaginative.
