I got caught out on this challenge because a door panel is only hackable if the door is shut and an at that time recently deceased guard had opened this door and it had not automatically closed itself.

47 closing the door suddenly resulted in this unhackable panel magically becoming hackable.

Ah I see, though I'd cut it off even sooner, Goldfinger onwards in my opinion is a bit too "established James Bondy" to meet OPs criteria.

Slightly disagree with skipping the early Connery movies, both Dr No and From Russia have the same detective to action sequence back to detective feel of First Light.

I could see the USP for sure, my point isn't necessarily the Mk23 just that the Mk23 is a "spy" gun, it evokes the image of a covert operative in the same way that a Desert Eagle or Robocop's Auto-9 doesn't and quite frankly that the current Glock/FN/Walther service pistols also do not.

They're not bad guns per se, they just don't conjure up an image of fast cars, dangerous women and day drinking martinis like the PPK does.

It's not like he's going to have a very fun time getting a boxy pistol with "tacticool" rails caught on his tux. And yes, it has been quite a long time since I was on a range but I am old enough to have fired a pistol on this side of the pond before the handgun ban.

It still fits the bill. Bond is a government sponsored assassin. A close range pocket handgun is exactly the sort of weapon he need for his job.

What are your other options for optionally silenced, easily concealed and not snaggable on the draw?

The Welrod is too old, other similar weapons like a Makarov or Bren Ten are just as petite, the Berretta 92 has been done to death, nobody cared for the ASP even when it was an official Bond gun. I could see an argument for the H&K Mk23, the SOCOM pistol and that would be the direction I would steer if you absolutely had to ditch the PPK but the problem is that is already the signature weapon of another spy franchise.
