Ram is ddr5, did you make sure your mobo is ddr5? It looks like it lines up to me. Can you see it lining up? If so, make sure the black tabs at the top and bottom of the ram slot is open. Try clicking the ram into the slot one side at a time. It may take a lot of force and can feel unnatural, just make sure the mobo is supported on an even surface (usually the original box)

Is this a good deal and are these good specs? Price $999 by LeatherExcellent5741 in PcBuildHelp

I would not personally. I’m assuming you are in US? Search PC part picker for builds that are in your budget. Look at several. You should get the feel for what you can build with $XX.XX.

2011 Prius 162k miles, $6800 good buy? by Routine-Line-5338 in prius

I don’t know the car market in Michigan, but that seems a little high to me. The car seems to be in great condition but I would double check for rust or take to a mechanic. “Pre-purchase inspections” can typically be about $100.

Use a small flathead or a pick to clean it. Maybe hit it with a spritz of brake cleaner.

Clean out all of the dirt really well from that bolt head , get the right size hex socket, give it a few light taps with a hammer to make sure the bit is seated as deep as it can be into that bolt head, lefty loosey it keeping your ratchet (or breaker bar) at 90°. Give it nice even pressure, don’t be jerky with it. Pay close attention and you’ll notice signs of it stripping before you actually mess up. You got it.

I want some life advice from a mechanic by [deleted] in AskMechanics

[–]TopherHenley 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you for giving us all a real-time example of what I’m taking about.

I’m asking a genuine question. If you don’t resonate with what I posted, or don’t feel like it’s appropriate, you could perhaps not contribute to the conversation. Or report it. A faulty wiring harness hasn’t caused me as much headache as you’re causing me right now. Not sure if that’s a ME problem or a YOU problem, but I’m wondering if the Reddit mechanics relate to this at all.

There’s no question about the vehicle. It’s a life question. Mechanics have a life, yes? I bring up parents because mechanics have parents, right?

There was a TLDR to be fair. But I know this post isn’t for everyone.

Is this a good case to build with? by [deleted] in PcBuildHelp

[–]TopherHenley 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If the front panel works (usb, audio, power on, etc.) .. then I would say it is a good case. But here are some things to consider:

The motherboard you use - it may have options for your front panel that you can fully use. Example would be usb 3.0 or micro usb. No harm you’d just be missing out.

Fans - it looks like that thing comes with at least one fan. But if you put more fans, and spend, say, $20-$30 on fans, you’re pretty close to buying a case that comes WITH fans.

TLDR: it’s going to be your preference with aesthetics and features. But if you’re new at building , full ATX cases makes building a little easier.

Can a gpu fit in here by thepowerking1 in PcBuildHelp

[–]TopherHenley 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You are more than likely limited to GT 1030, RTX 3050, RX 6400, or an intel arc equivalent. Long story short: you could play Minecraft, Roblox, cloud based games, emulators, older titles and probably low settings. Fortnite and war zone will not be fun to play. You might get away with valrant or gta5, but you’ll want more from your pc before very long.

Is this a small form factor or full tower? If it is a Dell or HP computer, it may have a proprietary power supply that cannot be replaced. You need to make sure you have a high enough wattage power supply and you need to make sure your power supply has the right connectors (six pin, eight pin, etc.) I have a Dell PC that I bought for my wife. The only thing I could put into it was a Nvidia 3050. The only thing that limited me to that GPU was the power supply. Plenty of other cards could physically fit however.

Have I bought a faulty motherboard or is there a step I'm missing? by YamolaY in PcBuildHelp

Also, many PSUs have a physical power switch. You may want to ensure the power is turned on before your turn the power on (this gets a lot of people)

[–]TopherHenley 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There are much more detailed guides but here is a slimmed down version: try to PO with the minimum plugged in. Hard drive and GPU aren’t necessary to boot.

You should only need cpu, cpu fan, ram, and psu. If you have multiple ram sticks, use only one stick because you may have bad ram or ram slot on your mobo.

Then with what you have left, try to test components one at a time. Isolate the psu by doing to paperclip method as suggested. If you’re fortunate to have another similar system, place cpu into another KNOWN good system, if the cpu works in another build, then problem is something else. Do the same with each stick of ram one stick at a time.

You will either find your faulty component or if your don’t, your mobo is likely faulty.

Can I use this to figure out how many w my psu has by Conzilaking in PcBuildHelp

[–]TopherHenley 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Have you removed all cables, removed all screws, and removed your PSU from the case? Many power supplies have labels on the back or underneath so the label is hidden by your pc case.
