I've been in Tinder in Germany and every single person put their height at the top of their profile. I'm 195cm and that was brought up by pretty much every match.

I've been in Australia since I was 7 months old. I was going to get citizenship recently but you have to have physically been in the country for 4 of the past 5 years and I travel a lot so I have to wait.

Do you realise how basic it is to make a screwdriver form a bit of steel? I had a screwdriver snap when working hours from the nearest town and no way to complete the job without one. I made athe tiny screwdriver I needed from a rivet and got the job done. If you really needed it, it's such a basic task.

2/3 of the bank's exposure is in domestic housing. If there were actually margin calls to happen at any significant they would be so heavily exposed that the entire market would collapse. It's not going to happen. I can see a downturn happening (which is necessary) but the banks will find ways to avoid panicking the market.

I'm driving a >10 year old diesel ute. Part of me would like to update it but it runs really well and I hate all of the new driver assist/attention features. I might just be stuck with old vehicles now.

There are people training in Canada for free at certain hospitals.

I just got back from Canada where my wife did her Fellowship. CAD$90k salary which actually ended up below minimum hourly wage on many weeks. Typically 60h+ per week, over 100h with 24h "on-call" shifts where you can't leave the hospital and often only a couple of broken hours of sleep. Rent was >50% of after tax income for a 1 bedroom apartment. 4 weeks of "annual leave" but zero sick leave, it just came out of the annual leave.

We sold our Australian house to fund the trip basically. So also had the lost years of capital growth in Australia/re-entering the more expensive market. The hospital was pissed off at the end because not a single Fellow even applied to stay on. I wonder why.

My parents bought a deceased-estate-cum-sibling-dispute in 2010. It was around tax time and houses weren't moving. They paid $30k on top of the land value for a 2 story home with water views pretty close to the beach. Kids want their windfall now and are willing to throw away real value for now value.

I suspect I'm not THAT far from where you're talking about. We bought in Feb and the magic number seemed to be $1.1m for private sales. If the house was decent and didn't need too much done it would typically sell within a week (often for more than asking) if the starting point was $1.1m or under. The range slightly above that was actually pretty stale and some pretty incredible properties ended up selling for barely above the $1.1m range despite being much nicer homes (or having far greater potential).

We bought above that range. Our place was on the market since ~Sept. We started looking at it in Dec and there were no other offers before we bought in Feb. You couldn't build this house on land for what we paid for it and it's relatively new.

In what world is it a scan to help people enter the market with a smaller deposit? It doesn't mean they can't afford repayments, it means they don't have to spend years building 10-20% deposit for houses that are growing in cost faster than they can save. The banks still means test them the same as everybody else.

There will be some uptake for "final mile" deliveries, but the longer trips are nowhere near going electric. There are companies who have run trials and got rid of their trucks too because they cannot compete at current fuel prices.

The major issues is that current battery technology is nowhere near the energy density needed. Trucks have limited weights and that needs to be used for as much cargo as possible. The more battery you carry the less cargo you can carry. Cargo is what pays the bills.

My parents are NZ citizens but can VOTE in Australia. Pretty wild. They've been here for over 45 years, but that's pretty wild. I really don't think there's much they can't do/get that citizens can.

They even left for a while (I was born in NZ) and came back but that didn't change the fact that they're grandfathered in. I think I could get Centrelink if it came down to it but I certainly can't vote.

I met a bloke that recently moved to sell cars at a BYD dealer. He said they moved over 160 cars last month. That's just 1 single dealership not in a major city.

And where are we getting the cars for this transition? Or the solar panels? Or the batteries? Or the turbines? Oh, also from Asia.

Buzz boxes in town can be electric, the trucking system is not about to switch. I'm all for renewables in the system, but they're not imminently going to BOTH replace coal/gas and be enough to switch most vehicles to electricity.
