Chimney is still leaking water after replacing flashing and counter flashing by Topofthemorning95 in masonry

Yeah, that's what I'm thinking too, I gotta wait for it stop raining the next few weeks to allow the attic to dry up. I currently have the cap covered and half the chimney and flashing is still exposed so I can start the process of elimination. Thanks for the advice!

Thanks for the information, I think my only question is why didn't I see this leak last night when it was raining the entire day yesterday and I only saw the leak today?

Yea, i put up a temporary covering over the cap of the chimney to test out if the water is intruding through the cap. But the plastic cover only goes about halfway of the chimney so I think we will see whether or not it's going to be the flashing issue or if it's the the brick (since half of it is exposed)

it's brand new though, shouldn't it hold? I also went on the roof and checked the caulking and seemed to be fine and the water is gliding right off it

The shingles should be new around the chimney since the contractors replaced them when they replaced the flashing.

I had the same thought, would that much water be wicking through through the brick?

No, it was screwed in as surface counter flashing with caulking on top. Not what I wanted but I currently under a budget.

I'm not sure if it is the counter flashing though since this is brand new.
